I remember shedding TEARS of joy for Elway when he DIVED for the first down,SENSING that this was HIS hour!! And he would NOT walk off of the field again, withOUT a Superbowl ring!! As an INSANE Chargers fan(ever since 1979 when I watched Dan Fouts SHRED the"Steel Curtain" at Jack Murphy Stadium en-route to a 35-7 DRUBBING of the defending champion Steelers)I'd followed Elways progress since 1980,and felt he DESERVED a ring, and was ESTATIC when he finally got it!! Packers were on fire and dominant all season and looked to be able to go back-to-back. Broncos weren't bad either, but Elway's history of losing Super bowls and coming in as a wild-card, I predicted the Packers would win. And 13 NFC victories. Even though I was rooting for Elway.

People have forgotten how huge this was. Before the game the Broncos had lost 4 Super Bowls, John Elway was considered the best QB to have never won the SB, and the AFC had lost 13 straight SB's.

    • @brucewayne1662
      @brucewayne1662 6 ปีที่แล้ว +51

Yep, it was also the most competitive, most exciting Super Bowl in 7 years. Not only that but Elway was on his last legs (but still very effective. Terrel Davis may have gotten the MVP but I don't think it would be necessarily accurate to say their running game or defense carried the team). Also the Packers were heavily favored and were the defending Super Bowl Champions. It also limited Brett Favre's Super Bowl wins to just one, and I think a lot of people assumed he would finish his career with a lot more than that.

Doug Williams, who beat Elway in the same stadium in '88 shakes hands with no one else on the field, except for Elway, and even Elway took and extra second with Williams there. Here is a case as to why Super Bowl 32 is the absolute best Super Bowl game of all time:
    1. John Elway finally wins the Super Bowl after three losses in Super Bowls 21, 22, and 24.
    2. John Elway VS. Brett Favre, with the Packers being 14+ point favorites to go back-to-back.
    3. The NFC's Super Bowl winning streak finally gets snapped at thirteen.
    4. Both teams scored a touchdown on their opening possession.
    5. The game stayed close throughout, where at one point, there were three ties.
    6. John Elway's 3rd down helicopter dive in the 3rd quarter.
    7. Terrell Davis battling through migraine headaches to score 3 touchdowns and win Super Bowl MVP honors.

@@ericpackers1700 , I remember when Marty was coaching the Chiefs and the Broncos were playing at Arrowhead. Marty benches a red hot Gannon, and replaces him with Elvis G. I remember we all erupted in joy because we felt no way the Broncos were going to win if Gannon was starting. This SB was sort of a whoever had the ball last situation, when Denver the next year was playing the Falcons I knew we were going to win that one. Honestly, I was a Broncos fan way back when Morton and Moses were the M&M connection, and lost to the Cowboys. I never really thought I would live long enough to see Denver win even one SB, let alone 3. The Orange Crush years were a very special time to be in Denver, now it's a dumpster fire thanks to all the sanctuary city wokies. There was a bar on 93 outside Rocky Flats super fund site that we used to stop at for fish and chips on the way back from Boulder that was a total Packers bar. I actually like Green Bay, the teams we dislike are the dirty birds(Ravens), the Chiefs naturally, and of course the Raiders, who will always be the Oakland Raiders to me. Good times, I remember SB 10 where it was the Cowboys and Steelers and during the game one of the Cowboys players was hurt, and 4 Cowboys players 2 on each leg, grab the guy and drag him off the field so the game could continue. The game was a lot more brutal back then, no pink ribbons, kneeling, or moments of silence for everything under the sun. Glad I got to see football when it was in it's prime, good times for sure.

      Nah...they didn't lose.
They imploded. There's a difference, they spectacularly imploded on the biggest stage in pro football really.
Name another SB with such a great team destroying their chances from the very outset. Seattle were the better team, but the Broncos gave away the first points on the first play. That was the tone of the whole game really.
Whereas the 2015 SB with the Panthers, I can't say for sure the Broncos or the Panthers were objectively the better team honestly, but that SB was a snore fest really, it felt to me like a regular season defensive shootout just happening to be in the biggest stage in pro gridiron.

I love that. If there’s one thing that football has taught me it is, whether you’re the big guy or the scrappy little dude it’s greatness that brings the best out of all of us. 23 years ago. I was 32 then living in Austin. Rooting for the Pack as I was enjoying the wonderful chemistry between my favorite receiver duo of Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman. Then Dorsey Levens makes the Pro Bowl and Brett gets his 3rd MVP. While watching this game, I was happy to see at least before halftime that Mark Chmura got into the act. Chmura caught that beautiful 23 yarder, and then scores the TD with 4 catches for 43 yards. Very respectable for a pro bowl TE.

GrassValleyGreg Terrell Davis is easily one of the most underrated players in NFL history. I personally believe that he is one of the greatest running backs of all time. Easily the best running back in Broncos history. Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, had 2,476 yards in the entire 1998 season (regular and playoffs) and was a flat-out BEAST.

I was so proud of those Broncos, I not only sat through the Broncos losses in SB's but the other AFC teams too.
The 13 SB losses in a row were from the teams below.
    Bills-4
    Broncos-3
    Patriots-2
    Steelers
    Dolphins
    Bengals
    Chargers
So proud to see the Broncos be the AFC team to stop the run and punch the NFC in the mouth. If Terrell Davis does not go out the entire second quarter, this would have been a blowout.
Only the Bengals and the Bills in one of their SB's played a competitive SB during the run.
The Broncos blocked not only as an O line but receivers and TE's too.
    Loved this team.
