As someone who also likes military fighter planes and gundam. Seeing all those control surfaces on the back shoulders and legs, the Penelope is like "I'm aerodynamics incarnate!" Such an awesome ms.
It was great seeing all of them be used in flight in the movie as well, rather than having the Penelope be a giant flying brick. Seeing them all move there after I made this review made me like the model so much more
You know, putting the Penelope and Xi next to each other, makes me think that the Penelope was, for lack of a better term, the Xi Gundams first draft. Like, when Mafty commissioned Anaheim to build them a Gundam, the Penelope was their first attempt, but was deemed unfit for purpose and so the concept was reworked and improved to become the Xi. This might also explain why the Penelope was the EFFs machine of choice to hunt Mafty down, being essentially the Xi Gundams older brother, one could infer that the two units have close to, if not exactly, equal performance on the battlefield. Or at least... that's my take on it anyway.
I agree that the Penelope probably did everything Anaheim had in mind but it wasn't good enough so that led to the Xi. They're smart people though and we've seen them sell / refit / gift their experimental products before, so you may very well be on to something
I'm surprised none of official anime gave Anaheim spotlight (I believe they were briefly shown in Zeta, and in positive manner, as working anti-Titans). But I think it's easy to portray them as ultimate, corporate bad-guys, enabling ideological/power-hungry/both maniacs with weapons, on both sides, so that demand for conflict and their merchandise never dries. Hathaway's Flash could easily end with EF being too done with them and clamping them down, if there was a proper plot to it. And it would neatly explain why they're gone from F91.
Penelope was super cool in the movie I feel an MG EX might be possible because of the sequential lights effects for Minovsly Flight and outrageous size
My Xi Gundam vs. Penelope Funnel Missile Effect Set is coming tomorrow!!! And honestly, I think Penelope is one of the prettiest MS out there. I love Gundams and MS that go above and beyond, especially when they don't sit exclusively with the stereotypical Gundam looks. I love Penelope, and I can't wait to build it tomorrow. And of course Xi Gundam haha.
It really doesn't get more unorthodox than this. It will probably upstage most other Gundams on display too. Everything else looks tame once you have the Penelope around
I do remember a few MGs that came with the same stand, but the one on top of my head right now is the old Wing Zero, the Freedom 2.0, and the Full Armor Thunderbolt Ver.Ka. Also, I just want to mention that the Penelope from the Funnel Missle set comes with its own unique action base connector, which will allow you to securely put it on the included Action Base for 1/100 kits from the set
Wow, and already you've delivered. That really is quite a few... I have far too few modern MG kits. I bet that original long and skinny arm must sway like crazy with something like the Thunderbolt FA Gundam on it...
@@HobbyClubhouse No joke. Believe it or not, the specialized arm of that base in the Thunderbolt kit is actually sectioned into 2 parts, making it even more unstable. Bandai has started including the modified Action Base 1 (the one with no screws) for some more recent MG kits like the Wing Fenice, the Justice, and the new Wing Zero EW ver.Ka. Really wish Bandai included that instead of this old and skinny one. The Full Armor Thunderbolt is already an expensive kit, I don't think it would hurt to increase the price by a few more hundred yen so that we can have a base that we can actually depend on.
The Penelope Gundam is awesome what i love about it is it's arm parts the front of it is a beam saber the four blue blocks are missiles and the back of it is a beam cannon it's awesome if you play maxiboost on in one of it's combos it uses the shoulder cannons on the shoulders as a beam saber it's cool and it's charge range and melee attacks it uses the arm beam cannons as B I G beam sabers
I wish they sold the Odysseus separately (since shelf space is a premium for me) so i can display the thing with a JPEG poster of the armor as the background lol. Also, from the proportions, i'm liking the 3rd party Xi better than the official one, can't wait for the reviews to see which one is best (engineering and stability wise)
I think a lot of people share your view and like the Katoki design of the Xi better. There's even quite a few people who have painted the HG kit back into that color with the blue chest. I really do wonder if anyone can afford all that shelf space for the entire Penelope. A lot of other nice MSes will have to be stored away to fit all that bird...
I'm on the same boat. When I made the review, I was absolutely sure it would look just as odd and alien on screen -- it kinda still did, but they somehow made it cool at the same time
Love how this ms looks! Even the odysius itself without the armor! I definitely want to get one whenever it gets reprinted. Although to be fair, all 3 of the hathaways flash mses ive seen so far have been absolutely awesome imo. I dont think the couple negatives of this kit would deter from my enjoyment of it ^^ Thanks again!
They're surely going to reprint plenty of them to coincide with the world-wide release of the movie. Oh, and go check out Hobby Japan's twitter, they shared a really cool size comparison of all the Hathaway MSes that's from this month's issue of the magazine:)
I do wonder too because the ball joints occasionally slip a little from the weight, and I wonder if a peg on solid plastic like most modern MG kits wouldn't have been better
@@HobbyClubhouse yeah same with the Jiiyan Altron 😅 but with the way things are going I'd say there's a better chance of getting the Shen Long sooner than the Leopard... Considering that it's the 25th anniversary of Gundam X this year they only released Daughtress and Airmaster Burst and they were both PBandai to boot 🤦♂️
I love the Odysseus gundam design, especially those wrist systems. I want to get one but i dont have space at least i can take a picture of the 3D AR google model
Sima Yi is actually a surprisingly rare kit because everyone wants it. I have one but outside the one I have, I've never seen it in stores a second time. I'll think about it actually since he seems to play a big role in SD Gundam World Heroes and people like him so much
Oh my gad so my girlfriend was showing me the epic musical the story of Odysseus and for the longest time whenever she would mention Penelope who’s Odysseus wife I would jokingly say “ha like the Penelope gundam” not knowing that these two suits ARE inspired by Odyssey and Penelope….. I felt so dumb honestly for not catching it the first time 🤣🤯
Dude, literally all the criticism you have about the FF unit, is exactly why ive put off building it. At times i love the way it looks, but then at times it just looks like a hot mess🤣🤷♂️
The in-universe explanation is that these thicc bois not only cost lots of money to make, but they also don't fit onto ships or take up all the space, so the big sizes really got out of hand
I think for the many years its been around in the fringes among fans, it was loved / revered for being shockingly strange and how chaotic it was in Moriki's original illustrations. I think the GFF figure much later was the first attempt to tame Moriki's wild criss-crossing geometry into something more traditional tl;dr - as an old fart, I remember a lot of people specifically loving the Penelope because it didn't look beautiful in the traditional sense

I wonder how long that would be in flight mode if the 1/144 HG is already close to half a meter long
i would sell my kidney just to buy an mg xi or penelope
It exists, just not made by Bandai

the strike rouge and other strikes have them

This guy and the xi always make me think about the Zeorymer
Especially the upturned tips of the Penelope's shoulder armor and that bulk
The designer of the zeorymer was the designer for the Xi i think

Just came across your channel and I absolutely love them. Keep them coming
Great review! Some parts were probably very difficult to film and they came across really well
The bird design is crazy. I was never into it. But after the film came out, for some reason, I'm starting to appreciate the design.

MODEL COMPREHEND DRAGON MOMOKO 1/144 HG Kexi RX 105 Gundoom Model kit GMC007 was based off the novel and much older models of it
I first seen it in G-gen F
It's SD look is stunning with some epic BGM
Good tastes, my man! I first really got to know the Penelope and Xi from those early G-Gens myself too. They could really take a beating
It's a wierd looking gundam that's why I love it, I'm just waiting for the duo Xi and Penelope kit and I'll definitely gonna buy those kits!
That box is huge and the kits are really imposing on display, you'll really love them

I do wonder too because the ball joints occasionally slip a little from the weight, and I wonder if a peg on solid plastic like most modern MG kits wouldn't have been better
@@HobbyClubhouse true that. I actually though that both the Xi and the Penelope would be using MG style hip joints due to their size and bulk.

@@HobbyClubhouse no worries its all fun!
a bizarre and wild look, but I'm glad bandai took the effort to made it possible.
I know, right? Bandai also has the technology to make it properly too with very few compromises or cuts to its design
Is there more unique looking gunpla?
Odysseus is a nice Gundamn 😁
penelope make me realize that i have a kink for overdesigned mess
It's hard not to be entranced by the flood of shapes and lines and overlapping surfaces on the Penelope
The stand is included with the mg build strike
That arm must have strained to hold up an MG, especially that dinky fork at the top...
@@HobbyClubhouse for me it’s still fine holding the build strike and the build booster

I like the Odysseus gundam under the Penelope flight armor the Penelope armor looks bad and makes the ms into a big mecha chicken
