its a multiverse. Every game except Sekiro had them, those are what ALL PHANTOMS represent. @@apollumi1393 yea, it was never this relevant before. Like we all understood at the end of each dark souls game, timelines split off. But Nightreign is the only time we're looking at the "split off" part.

I love that Fromsoft is letting new people direct. I love Miyazaki's games, don't get me wrong, but I think it's important to let other people show off their skills and ideas. And it looks like they have a decent idea on how to do it, too- letting new people tackle smaller projects attached to already successful IP's. Hope to see more of that!
Me too, but I do think its good for them to branch out and with Miyazaki our lord and savior still around, we should still get the good stuff...for now :)
I don't know how propable it is but it would be very cool if we got to fight/meet characters we only heard about or had very limited interaction with in ER. Like Godwyn, Gloam Eyed Queen, Marika...but also for example being able to fight Ranni
I see this as just a fun little game to tide us over until their next big IP drops. We could have gotten nothing in 2025 but now we have a new FromSoft game. Even if it's a bit below their normal standard, it will still be better than most titles.
Yes EXACTLY. People are treating this to the same regard as all of the other mainline Fromsoft games when it’s clearly just a mindless-fun type of spin off game
Except Survive was made by a gutted version of the metal gear team without the permission of the creator by a company known for terrible practices and filled with microtransactions, while this is made with the explicit permission of the creator by an up-and-coming director within the company known for making excellent titles and has no microtransactions at all.
Personally i never played multiplayer co-op games untill this year when i played Space Marine 2 when i was done with Shadow of the Erdtree and i had a blast. Something like that in Elden Ring world with a this night and day twist and bosses sounds awesome to me.
Why do some people still insist on connecting the dark souls and elden ring universes? It has already been made clear in the interview that it is only a spin-off, there is no real connection, do not look for a logical explanation because it does not have one. From games have a lot of depth, I know that, but sometimes people get really insufferable trying to forcefully make sense of anything
Because It shares characters, enemies, weapons, spells, skills, mechanics, themes and aesthetics from Dark Souls... And the guy who wrote the backstory said it was a sequel.
Tbf with the alternative world stuff isn’t the whole idea of us invading and being invade in dark souls is us getting invaded by tarnished from parallel worlds
Im a little skeptical, mostly due to the fact they are clearly bringing back the nostalgia factor to make this game more playable. Idk it sounds like what cod mobile and all these other mobile franchises do, recycle assets and craming it into a game attempting to make it cohesive. Hope to be wrong tho, but I am skeptical
Fromsoft has always reused assets form other games. This game is clearly doing it more but it makes sense considering its a small experimental project rather than a mainline game
Reusing assets it's different than transferring the entire thing, also its not just the asset, it's confirmed that, that is straight up the nameless king from dark souls, again kinda like how in cod they add ghost in every game and shit, combine that with now having "hero characters" instead of costumization, skins and special currency that you earn in quick matches... So I'm worried, I do trust fromsoft, I don't trust bandai namco, and Miyazaki ain't helping here so likely an extra job due to the ip's popularity.
I think reused assets are not the issue. It is the fact that they just slap in nostalgic things from past games like a cheap fan service. like, I love NK, I love ds2, but i feel like they have their places somewhere else and it's not in ER. not to say it can't be good but it's weird for fs to this. miyazaki and tanimura also not involved in this except giving permission making it even more suspicious. I can only hope they will at least make the lore make sense other than "it just is, it just happened". but I get ahead of myself here, gameplay hasn't even out yet. maybe they really are cooking with this one.
The game's lead director, Junya Ichizaki, has confirmed that none of what happens in it has to be considered canon. Chillax with your mad lore theories everyone, Fromsoft just wanted to give us super smash fortnite ringverwatch and that's why they put nameless in it, lol
@@weebto let the man dream. No need to rain on his parade. Anyways, Ichizaki said it was a split from the timeline we played. It may not be canon to Elden Ring but the story implications of its own timeline are yet to be seen
@@entityuntombed yeah sorry if that sounded harsh, I just don't get the point of discussing things we already know the answers to, or at least that's my perspective. About the split timeline bit, I don't think there will be particularly hefty story implications to discuss from the looks of things, the way Ichizaki worded it comes off as a way to justify why they jumbled up so many random things together to me, lol (and that's fine, don't get me wrong, I'm all for something more light-hearted for once)
What scares me in this game is exploring. FromSoftware games are known for their amazing areas full of secrets, hidden rooms, and more. I don’t like the fact that I have to explore quickly or, even worse, decide which area to explore because I don’t have enough time as the zone keeps shrinking.
There isnt going to be that kind of exploration. The map is randomly generated. This game is all about combat. Which makes sense since the director for nightreign was a combat designer on bloodborne and elden ring
does anyone here remember the game kirby airride? it had that rad city trial mode where you spawn in a big map, and you have like 5 minutes to frantically find upgrades and better cars so that youd be best set up for competitive mini game at the end? for years ive been saying that it would be so cool if elden ring had a mode like that. a mode where you spawn in a random spot on the map, items and bosses randomized but scaled to your level, and you just have to try and get as powerful as you can in x amount of time. obviously this isnt exactly that but its closer than i ever expected to get and im glad i wasnt the only one that saw the potential in that. now if only fromsoft would make an 8v8 objective based pvp mode reminiscent of chivalry II.
I'm kind of excited for it, because I love playing Elden Ring, but at the same time, having to level and gear my character on each run doesn't really seem that fun to me. Tinkering with builds and figuring out the perfect items for a character is kind of a big part of what I like in From Soft games. Being reduced down to just three passives seems kind of bleh.
Cautiously optimistic. I am not a souls purest but have played both Elden Ring and DS3 extensively, and I keep feeling the need to convince myself this isn’t a cash grab. Elden Ring to me at least was better than other souls games because I could explore and pace my experience. I wanted to bum rush bosses and advance the story I could but if I wanted to make a level one character and one by one solo all the main bosses all whilst dying 99 times and snapping three controllers, yeah I could do that too. This feel like if Elden ring was call of duty and I want to just get a few matches off before the wife makes me get off the game.
I mean even if it is a cash grab, it will probably still be super fun in the meantime, and give from extra money for their next big game. I think this will be a fun side game no matter what
I think it's a fun quick side project that allows Ishizawa to get his feet wet at directing his first game. This is not something that got passed down from investors or anything like that. It came from Ishizawa's own mind as something he genuinely wanted to create.
@@carlschrappen9712 the new director sounds like a convenient lackey brought in to min-max (minimize dev effort; maximize profit) a pseudo-live-service game that the publisher (and soon Sony will) logically want; "I saw this as a opportunity to do something different" said the new director. But "different" does not mean "new" or "risk-taking"; Apparently here "different" means mashing up popular/profitable trends into a game using the Elden Ring name with heavily reused assets. Combining these existing elements seems to be the only original thing (if there was something new, the trailer would have led with that). This is a blatant cash grab. Sure, this is a "spin-off", but unfortunately there are reasons to be worried for the future of From.
I'm excited to find out how they've evolved the combat and also extremely relieved that this seems to be an alternative timeline. The idea of a canonical crossover is off-putting to me. Both DS and ER would lose a lot of their identity and charme to me if this became a thing beyond Nightreign.
This honestly sounds sooooo fun. When I first saw the trailer I was more confused than anything, but now actually hearing about the game and how it'll work, and knowing that fromsoft isn't a company that makes bad cash grabs, I have really high hopes for this game. I don't mind the fact that it's much more gameified than the more traditional soulsborne games, because for a concept like this you kind of have to do that. But I have full faith in fromsoft and know that this game is going to be an absolute BANGER as always.
i would also prefer it also but it being something new would take so much work too make, because instead of just changing a few things here and there for limgrave they would have to make a new area instead and new enemies and bosses. also elden ring is popular. easy way to make more money
My biggest hope is that the new enemies and bosses are just as well designed and interesting as base elden ring bosses or even better would be on the quality level we got in the dlc
@SaraAliciaCaster Yes, and the enemy spider from DS2 can be seen in the trailer. So I know DS3 and 2 enemies and bosses are confirmed. I'm just hoping they're hiding DS1 and Sekiro bosses from us as a surprise.
sounds like theres a handful of minor bosses that appear each night, a bunch of main bosses that you fight after the 3 days, and the night king as the final boss, this sounds fucking awesome
i’m excited for it not only is it one of my favorite IP’s but it sounds alike a refresher a hack and slash survival with what seems to have a lot of content and HOPEFULLY some connections and lore that isn’t just head cannon
Not gonna lie. When i was just watching TH-cam and not the Game Awards and suddenly the trailer popped in my notifications i first thought by the title that a new Elden Ring Mod is released. Then i noticed who uploaded the trailer.
Having the base of Elden Ring, enemies from Dark Souls and mechanics from Bloodborne and Sekiro really feels like a celebration of everything FromSoftware have made over the years.
@@jetstreamvlad9060yeah i think something to note is that if they can nail the ability to combine what made previous games great here, it could be a boon for the next mainline game. seriously imagine an actual soulslike experience but with climbing and grapples and more refined parrying mechanics, it could be the next step up from what elden ring had done before.
If there’s any lore tie in it sounds like it’s a split after the shattering where the Nox got what they wanted instead of the demigods. Very intriguing. That or it’s a follow up after Ranni wins and changes things. I’m excited either way
So happy to see that fromsoft is releasing projects like this. I love their traditional souls games, but its important to try new things and innovate in ways that their mainline games can't. Also happy all my favorite souls creators can keep making fresh souls videos😁
Why do you say that? It’s delivering a lot of what people have been asking for as far as coop and replayability. It may not be your kind of game, but beneath FromSoft?
It's the blatant reuse of the ips. It feel very fanservice and cashgraby. They should have made a new setting or world, even if not that deep, but it will be better than reusing these worlds. I know it's not canon, but it doesn't feel less vulgar
@@user-zp8kj2cl9g they have to be able to experiment without investing time and money into an entirely new IP. And is not even going to be priced at a main title price point. I think this is the best possible way to reuse assets to save resources and experiment with new mechanics and concepts.
All I'm saying is that if we don't see a blue flame version of Gwyn or Soul of Cinder, I'll be surprised. Also, it's good he clarified it's a spinoff first and foremost. Saves the lore buffs the heart palpitations from trying to tie all this to the DS and ER continuities, it also explains why the Firekeeper isn't the same as the one from DS3 and why Nameless King is still trouncing around despite the Ashen One pounding him to dust. The Firekeeper is just a random firekeeper, and the Nameless King was likely just plucked from a world where he was never fought to begin with.
I think Fromsoft following other gaming trends will be their downfall. I don't know who wanted an ER destiny fortnite hybrid. Also the whole "the night is bringing beings from other worlds" just sounds like an excuse to just cash in on players nostalgia. NGL this is a bad sign and seems like a bad omen for what's to come. But hey I could be wrong
This is a small side project, something fun with mostly reused assets. It's not like they've poured 8 years and hundreds of millions into this. There'll most likely be a main line game announcement sometime in the next 6 months.
@@chillcharity7610 yeah man I feel the fear on that one, but honestly this just looks like a fun little game. But If it’s anything like their last like 13 releases it’ll be a blast! This is just exactly the change in direction that Miyazaki has talked about lately, they’re big enough now to release small games whilst they spend time cooking up the main ones.
This is the beginning of the end. I dont care if it's reused assets or not. This is still gonna take a bunch of development time away from the next mainline game and a further push into casual more accessible games for the masses. Not what a souls fan wants for the future of these games. Add the fact that Sony is gonna own them soon and it's clear to see the glory days have ended.
I hope that it will be better for people like me with a job and a family, where I can jump in and out quickly. That is a problem I have with Elden Ring, is it's so big and I get a chance to play so little that when I do play I never remember where I am or what I've done.
7:00 I think that the map will be so big that finding lore around the entire map will keep "proficient players" who might beat the 3rd night boss on a second or third try. but even so I think it is going to be a 15-30 hour experience that is HIGHLY replayable - it's basically a randomizer with a set time limit of 45 minutes?
I’m so excited they’re doing something different like this. FS is at their best when they get creative and push the envelope (i.e., Sekiro). I could see this approach working really well for this ER, plus if they wanted to, it’s something that will be easy to build on with DLCs that have new maps and bosses. Amped up to play it for sure!!
I didn't even see this coming. Not even a whiff of a suspicion, which made the surprise reveal all the better. Wall climbing? Wings? This looks pretty sick. Saw the Nameless King in the trailer which psyched me up. Looking forward to this one. Probably the only game in 2025 that looks remotely acceptable given the lineup we saw.
I don't like Fortnite, I don't like Tarkov, I don't like Pubg, I don't like Overwatch or League of Legends or Valorant. I like Miyazaki traditional games. Why should I play this? Especially if the lore isn't canon, and most of the enemies, assets and bosses I've already seen before?
Idk, looks fun, especially with friends This is definitely a smaller project for them and I wouldn't be surprised if they released something else next year along side it.
What do a bunch of shooters have to do with from making their own roguelike game? If you dont like this style of game thats fine dont play it. I can guarantee you not buying this game isnt going to matter. From makes the games they want to make they dont owe you ANYTHING

« I shall remember thee, Tarnished. Smouldering with thy meagre flame. Cower in Fear. Of the Night. The hands of the Fell Omen shall brook thee no quarter. »
I remember that line, but it seems our goal is to protect the lands between, which would put us on the same side as Margit? I'm excited to see how this plays out.
This is a spin off, they'll probably pull something like what we saw in the fan-made expansion for Dark Souls 3, the Archthrones. They are using Elden Ring's engine and they needed Elden Ring's attention to attract more players.
I'm definetly here for it. A dungeon crawler Co op looter in the world of Elden Ring, with some Dark Souls sprinkled in is definetly my jam. I know they said its not a live service but if anyone was going to make a live service I'd be interested in, this would be as close as it gets. We'll see how it shakes out.
I feel like they could have set it somewhere along the official timeline of ER, but on the other hand; "the flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out. The very fabric wavers, and relations shift and obscure."
Why disappointed? This is a side project. You arent losing anything for it. And even if it flops the mechanics they are testing out here can be refined and given another try later.
What if the Night Lord was Artorias? Night Lord Artorias, Herald of the Abyss. Remember how Manus used his hand and the power of the abyss to pull us from another timeline of the future, into the past? And instead of Artorias being the hero, we were the ones to be an end to Manus. What if they are kind of doing the same? They are pulling bosses and characters from different timelines of the abyss, into this convoluted world. That would be amazing
I think it would be an interesting concept if somehow Dark Souls is a story or a legend in the Elden Ring universe and the King of the Night was bringing those stories to live or something similar as a justification to old DS bosses on ER. I don't think this will be the reason, but it's a nice way of explaining, since this could also be linked to the painted worlds
I think this actually looks pretty cool. And from past experience with FS, I guarantee there are a lot of details that have been left out (to surprise us when we can actually play it) which will make this stand out from the rest.. I highly doubt FS would release a game, especially one attached to ER’s groundbreaking reputation, that just followed the standard multiplayer formats. I think it looks pretty awesome! Aside from everything being a lot faster moving in general, I just hope that the movement/movesets are on par (in quality) with what we know. I will embrace different as long as the quality’s there lol
This is awesome! Like the universe read my mind! Love souls game, but was playing Hell Divers with friends and was loving it and thought "man! It'd be dope to just get dropped into chaos with your friends in the souls style".... And now this! Epic!
I imagine this is an event that takes place before we come as the chosen tarnished. We see elden ring concepts of our main world but the cross overs is a little ‘cheap’ but it’s only cheap because so many titles have used this very cheaply but I think this is a beautiful idea for the fromsoft series. I always thought that the souls series seemed so connected to elden ring but I love this and can still be part of our world. Maybe we will see a small update incorporating some of this games items or connections to the events.🤷🏻♂️ much potential and EXTREME hype!
Big detail I don’t think enough creators are bringing up is that this is totally playable offline solo.

It actually is it’s just not taking place in current timeline. People are misinformed about the actual interview.
its a multiverse. Every game except Sekiro had them, those are what ALL PHANTOMS represent. So Soulsborne aficionados going into this simply need to know that this is first and foremost a spin-off title, so it's NOT going to be a full-fledged "classic" Souls experience. The more I learn about this game, the more sounds fun however.
I have my qualms about the obvious stuff, like pretty much everyone, but gameplay-wise I'm sold.

I have faith in fromsoft. But I cannot deny that watching this instead of hype, it made me worried
Me too, but I do think its good for them to branch out and with Miyazaki our lord and savior still around, we should still get the good stuff...for now :)

I see this as just a fun little game to tide us over until their next big IP drops. We could have gotten nothing in 2025 but now we have a new FromSoft game. Even if it's a bit below their normal standard, it will still be better than most titles.
Exactly.
Yes EXACTLY. People are treating this to the same regard as all of the other mainline Fromsoft games when it’s clearly just a mindless-fun type of spin off game
So far this doesn't sound like a game I will be interested in playing. I'll probably just watch some gameplay videos when it comes out.

This will be the chalice dungeons of ER. Cant wait
If this game has a “boss run” mode all of my wishes will be granted
Sounds like a what if story within the lore,
Im a little skeptical, mostly due to the fact they are clearly bringing back the nostalgia factor to make this game more playable.
Fromsoft always reuses assets. Its nothing new.
You are not alone i have my doubts too
Nightreign sounds like something you play for a month, then occasionally come back for updates.
It definitely seems like the other From games take place earlier in the combined timeline instead of the other way around as many suggested
The game's lead director, Junya Ichizaki, has confirmed that none of what happens in it has to be considered canon. Chillax with your mad lore theories everyone, Fromsoft just wanted to give us super smash fortnite ringverwatch and that's why they put nameless in it, lol
@weebto that's a From Soft psyop designed to mislead us so we can't ever understand the full lore. Don't fall for the, "it's non-canonical," comments.
Do not fall for the psyop that the game is "non-canonical". They just don't want us to know the truth!
with a randomized map you can have a new poison swamp every time! Myiazaki must be so proud
What scares me in this game is exploring. FromSoftware games are known for their amazing areas full of secrets, hidden rooms, and more. I don’t like the fact that I have to explore quickly or, even worse, decide which area to explore because I don’t have enough time as the zone keeps shrinking.
Same
it's probably going to be much slower than it sounds, but compared to base elden ring, it is faster.
Well that's kinda your fault if you try to play this like the original Elden Ring when it's aiming to be something very different.
There isnt going to be that kind of exploration. The map is randomly generated. This game is all about combat. Which makes sense since the director for nightreign was a combat designer on bloodborne and elden ring
@@dev4159 each full game lasts about 45-50 minutes or a team wipe. whatever happens first
does anyone here remember the game kirby airride? it had that rad city trial mode where you spawn in a big map, and you have like 5 minutes to frantically find upgrades and better cars so that youd be best set up for competitive mini game at the end? for years ive been saying that it would be so cool if elden ring had a mode like that. a mode where you spawn in a random spot on the map, items and bosses randomized but scaled to your level, and you just have to try and get as powerful as you can in x amount of time. obviously this isnt exactly that but its closer than i ever expected to get and im glad i wasnt the only one that saw the potential in that. now if only fromsoft would make an 8v8 objective based pvp mode reminiscent of chivalry II.
I think people are gonna overhype this one. It seems like just a fun, gameplay-focused side game, rather than a true Elden Ring 2.
Your overthinking it
I mean even if it is a cash grab, it will probably still be super fun in the meantime, and give from extra money for their next big game. I think this will be a fun side game no matter what
I think it's a fun quick side project that allows Ishizawa to get his feet wet at directing his first game. This is not something that got passed down from investors or anything like that. It came from Ishizawa's own mind as something he genuinely wanted to create.
matches will be 45 minutes idk about that last bit.
I like the idea of the shattering caused a pseudo multiverse as a great idea! Really adds to the scale of the effects of the shattering
My only problem with this is it beeing called elden ring, they could've made it a new ip and go all out mixing all the souls games content
i would also prefer it also but it being something new would take so much work too make, because instead of just changing a few things here and there for limgrave they would have to make a new area instead and new enemies and bosses. also elden ring is popular. easy way to make more money
My biggest hope is that the new enemies and bosses are just as well designed and interesting as base elden ring bosses or even better would be on the quality level we got in the dlc
This should be fun. I hope we get to select bosses from DS1, Sekiro and BB also!
There's a screenshot of dukes dear freija
So there's ds2 capability too

Ok, I'm a massive From Soft fan... but I'm sorry to say that this just sounds downright dreadful and far beneath this studio.

But hey I could be wrong
This is a small side project, something fun with mostly reused assets. It's not like they've poured 8 years and hundreds of millions into this.
There'll most likely be a main line game announcement sometime in the next 6 months.
@nebky that's honestly pretty fair. I just don't want FS to abandon what makes them great for a cheap cash out
@@chillcharity7610 yeah man I feel the fear on that one, but honestly this just looks like a fun little game. But If it’s anything like their last like 13 releases it’ll be a blast! This is just exactly the change in direction that Miyazaki has talked about lately, they’re big enough now to release small games whilst they spend time cooking up the main ones.
It's a cash grab. FromSoftware has finally become FromSlopware, though it's funny seeing them produce a game that China would typically make.
Don't think this is an alternate timeline think it just takes place earlier then the events of the main game.
Bruh we need a Ranni official lifesize doll just sayin
What kinda doll you thinking of there

I’m so excited they’re doing something different like this. FS is at their best when they get creative and push the envelope (i.e., Sekiro). I could see this approach working really well for this ER, plus if they wanted to, it’s something that will be easy to build on with DLCs that have new maps and bosses. Amped up to play it for sure!!
Randomizers and seamless coop? Couldn't ask for more sign me up
I didn't even see this coming.
Zio, it's not like a extraction game, it's literally a roguelike
It's both. Chill.
Phendrana Drifts for background music is goated BTW.

Idk, looks fun, especially with friends
This is definitely a smaller project for them and I wouldn't be surprised if they released something else next year along side it.
What do a bunch of shooters have to do with from making their own roguelike game? If you dont like this style of game thats fine dont play it. I can guarantee you not buying this game isnt going to matter. From makes the games they want to make they dont owe you ANYTHING
Because its simply fun. What more do you need?
I think that is the Fire Keeper in the hood.
This whole thing feels like us paying for Fromsoft to first-draft their inevitable live service game that Sony will no doubt demand. Im not interested tbh. Il keep an eye out though who knows.
Manis night lord? Pulling you in like in the AOTA
I have mixed feelings. It seems kinda like an ER mod tbh. Seems like it could be fun but yeah obviously not as exciting as a new Miyazaki game
Well appreciate the confirmation on details I have been starting to gather. It makes sense given the timeline.
I’m disappointed and excited at the same time.
Nah it's a boss rush cashgrab started by Bandai Namco
If it was a cash grab I think they would've have made it live service and or not below 60 dollars
I wanna play as Hawk Tuah the bird man.
I will embrace different as long as the quality’s there lol
new content farm, let's goooooo!
This is awesome! Like the universe read my mind! Love souls game, but was playing Hell Divers with friends and was loving it and thought "man! It'd be dope to just get dropped into chaos with your friends in the souls style".... And now this! Epic!
Doesn't sound luke my cup of tea.... I will have to see how it plays solo, but I think I'll pass this one.
