This is the "Endgame Mod" of my dreams. I wanted an extra DLC that added an ever-changing Chalice Dungeon, with randomized enemies and items, and some extra bosses (possibly borrowed from older From games), and persistent co-op. Make it like a sectioned off area where they could make big gameplay tweaks without affecting the base game.
I'm mixed on pre-made heroes. I wanted this "Endgame Zone" to be a thing I jumped into with the characters I made. But the one benefit I see, is that it lets them make each character have their own mechanics. It's like, "Play as this character, and you're playing the Elden Ring with Sekiro Deflection mod, play as this other character for the Sidestep Replaces Dodgeroll mod,or play as this one if you want it to be closer to Classic Eden Ring."
My one big gripe is the lack of 2-player support. That just seems like a stupid fucking decision, born from laziness at best. Like, just make 2-playeer mode identical to single-player, if balancing concerns are the only reason it's not happening. Guarantee, there are more people out there who think, "I'd like to play this with this one friend who'd be really into it--but just us," than there are people who think "This game would be WORSE if it had 2-player co-op!" From, you have time to FIX this. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY.

I think the biggest thing about nightreign is the co op aspect. after playing through elden ring my friends and I rlly wanted to play the game together, but summoning each other was kinda janky/annoying/not as co-op-y as we would have liked. This could be an opportunity for fromsoft to learn just how to make a co-op game, and maybe in the future, they can make the typical souls game we love into a game that can still be played solo as it always has been, but also have a way to have a fully immersive co-op playthrough. As you said, this game is a low risk opportunity where they can afford to make mistakes or try out very new things that would be too risky to pull off in a full big boy game.

Then there's From Software. Their track record consistently shows they focus on making games that people can enjoy. No squeezing out extra money for subpar flavoring options.
Its a new genre for them, true, but I'm fairly certain they'll do it justice. And back to your question, just look at what has been shown in the trailer with regards to new movement options.
The Nameless King fight will be very different from DS3's for example if people can jump up on high objects, grab a bird for flight and so on. The things they will learn from this experimental game will allow them to evaluate what might work in the next Soulsborne entry.
Experimenting with a danger zone (rain turning things purple) could also help them resolve some old not-really-functional ideas like the Pursuer and the Night's Cavalry original intent: free roaming foes that try to track you down vs spawning in some random places.
Also, consider that FS NEVER shows their full hand before launch... soooo.... I've got good hopes, which is rare.

Miyazaki doesn't seem to want to milk his games and has been frustrated with having to do it in the past. This is the antithesis of everything he has been expressing. That would be a gamble, what from is doing is the most logical thing to do, take the backdrop, take the assets iterate upon its gameplay, and on top of that because of that they can use ds assets as they also have the whole dark fantasy aspect to them, I understand your point but doing what from is doing is just logical from a devs point of view specially when seeing the scope of the game

They're using a lower caliber game to test the waters on changes which -if well recieved- will absolutely make it into everone's vote for GOTY 2026. Honestly, I have always wanted to see FromSoft combine its different styles, so a Sekiro-style game in a Souls-settings with Bloodborne weapons all wrapped up in an "AC, and simultaneously, Monster Hunter"-esque combat, is perfect for an experiment for that least.
It's a new director of FromSoft trying to enter the scene with a bang with a rather risky move. But I don't mind seeing how it goes.
I only imagine the "lore connection" has to tie into the Erdtree "forest" we see in both the Elden Beast arena and the Hunter's Dream, along with the Age of Deep Sea shown in Elden Ring via Miquella's candle and Godwyn's corpse, Bloodborne's Deep Sea Rune, and Aldrich's vision.

      - art
      - story
      - dialogue
      - music
      - innovation
“Fun” is a hugely diverse thing, and there are many different kinds of fun. I don’t play Risk of Rain 2 and Elden Ring for the same reason, one is because it’s fun, the other is a profound and wonderful experience that I want to enjoy for all of its uniquely beautiful properties. That’s usually my expectation from Fromsoft.

This might not be for me (I might try it if it seems to be playable solo), but I can´t see anything wrong with FromSoft experimenting with new formulas, as long as I don´t get a feeling of it being just a cash grab or way to monetize the players... I still trust in Miyazakis vision and believe that FromSoft could still be one of the "good guys"... I will be there when they decide to release a game that is more up my alley! I´m not interested in the Armored Core franchise either, but I´m not complaining about them making more games of that franchise. I left my character at level 150 for summons and managed to rack up 500 hours of gameplay. It's definitely too soon for an Elden Ring 2, and I respect that they’re not just reusing the same formula.
For me, this kind of game is perfect, a challenging experience anytime without having to start a whole new playthrough, plus the bonus of fighting iconic Souls bosses. This is one of those situations where I can honestly see both sides. On one hand, FS has never let us down with their quality (excusing the DS2 blunder I will die on this hill) and their games are iconic/genre defining. However, I can see the other side that fears the success of Elden Ring and talks of companies selling may have opened the doors to less quality decisions in the never ending chase to please stockholders. Elden Ring made the number go up very fast and stockholders want it to keep going up from there. Ideally, we get some side games (good or bad) and have Miyazaki untouched in his game design direction. But I also worry that his success may have been the downfall of quality in the future. If he leaves the company, there’s a good chance we won’t ever see these amazing games again from them. Excited as all hell, but Nameless King not only being shown like he was a normal boss to have in a game like this, but also just out in an open field randomly worries me.

From a guy who’s platinum all of the souls games, I’m very worried about this new spinoff. We’ve seen this formula for the past 10 years and it always does well at the start but dies away quicker than most because of the repetitiveness. It seems to be that customization will be minimal to none. I personally don’t wanna buy elden ring to beat the nameless king. I would much rather not play against used assets. Hope for those who buy the game have a amazing time.

I look forward to this game. It looks like they are implementing some old mechanics (like Sekiro’s parry) with new mechanics (like guard counters) while building the game to be a randomized coop experience.
Those who say, “Download mods / Mods already did this / They are cash grabbing with mods and nostalgia” are clearly not looking for a new game, but a completely new IP that would be modded with the same nostalgia from previous games. This game is clearly testing the grounds with old/new features along with different gameplay, and we could see a more refined version or changed feature in the game after this.

People keep forgetting that it'S "only" a 39 Euros game. It's not a AAA 69,99 release. For the price of around 40 euros, this is gonna be A LOT of content. Especially with all the randomly generated maps. It's basically chalice dungeons on steroids with the best bosses of each souls game PLUS eight completely new bosses. On top of that new weapons, classes, skills and even ultimate abilities. It sounds amazing.

Remember that Lords of the Fallen (forgot already?) was counting their "seamless co-op" from start to finish as a big selling point, Remnant From The Ashes had it too, in FromSoftware's games if one dies, you can't "revive" them, it's first RPG I've ever seen without a "revive party" magic spell.

This one is a no from me for a very simple reason. It looks cool but isn't the type of game that I personally enjoy. I'm a player that absolutely values being given the freedom to enjoy a game at my own pace. Putting the game on a timer that forces the player to go at a pace that they don't choose is exactly why its a game that I would never play for long enough to enjoy the way I like to play games.
Making a game that ramps up the speed to crackhead levels is absolutely there just for the fun of it, but overlooks players that simply don't need crazy amounts of dopamine to enjoy a gaming experience. This game isn't made for those players, and is just being what it wants to be, or simply doesn't know why that is the case that we don't want to play it. It's okay to make something the game dev wants to make, but consequently its also why players are disapointed and why many will just skip it in the same way we skipped AC6.
Personally, looking into the game and critically examining if its even a type of game I want to play, I find that its okay if the answer to that is no. Now, if the game devs are suprised by that response, its helpful for them to know why that is, so that it can inform how things are done mindful of every type of player that has interest in their games.
