I replaced my belt tonight and used your video as a guide. Very helpful and easy to follow -- thanks for posting!

One good thing about doing this work on the Lawn Boy 10656 model is that I did not need the square head bit to remove the belt from the pulley wheel. It was just a Phillips head.

Very much appreciated. Even though the parts and pieces weren't exact for my mower it still helped tremendously.
Thank you thank you thank you

I just replaced the drive belt and tension cable on my Lawn Boy model # 10656. It is largely very similar to what you see in this video. The big difference is that when you remove the 4 bolts (2 by each rear wheel), there are nuts and washers on the inside that "will" fall out. It is kind of a pain getting them back in as you will find it hard to hold the nuts with two fingers as you turn the bolt. You may need to hold each nut with a pair of small pliers. When you remove these 4 bolts you will also find that since the bolt goes through the deck and (for lack of the correct term) the wheel height adjustment sheet metal piece, you may need to stick a small stubby screw driver into the hole and wiggle it back and forth to assist with realigning the holes so you can get your bolt back in. I hope I explained that well for anyone with a Lawn Boy 10656. I'm glad I tackled the job myself. I would not have been able to do it without the assistance of this video and certainly didn't want to have to pay someone to do it. Thank you.

great video!!! changed my drive belt with no problems following your video. one suggestion: the square-bit socket used to remove the belt keeper cover. could not find that tool!! improvised using a slot-head screwdriver that fit snugly across the diagonal... would be nice if you identified special tool and where you acquired it!!!

I replaced the belt on a Lawn Boy just like yours. But when I propel the mower it only propels for about 2 seconds and the belt slips off the transmission pulley and always ends up underneath the pulley. I found the part number for the belt and ordered the correct belt. What would be causing that to happen?

You should show how to adjust the drive cable. Not all belts are perfect even if the part #s match.

I replaced the drive belt on my lawnboy with the correct belt but it continues to slip off the pulley on the transmission. Why would that happen?

There should be a sheet metal keeper that surrounds both sides of the pulley to keep the belt from coming off. Perhaps that is missing?
