    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This mower doesn't have the variable speed feature. If you have one that specifically has that feature, you would increase the distance between the self propel bar and the handle.

    • @RotaryTeamVincent
      @RotaryTeamVincent 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JLPicard440 So does that mean the belt slips a bit if you only hold it half way to handle?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RotaryTeamVincent I don't know, I don't have one over here to look at. If it works like a lawn tractor, there's a pulley with a variable ratio when You shift gears, your just changing the ratio on the pulley. I imagine if the belt slipped when you slow it down, it would wear the belt out quite a bit faster, but it could be that's how they got it.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI, you'd have to look up the part number to the belt and see if it shows what length it is. I don't know just off hand. Yes, if it's stuck in self propelled mode, then the belt is to short.

    Rudy - I have a ROVER 75M93 self-propelled battery start mower very much like the Lawn Boy - it is not driving as strong as it use to, so I replaced the belt and adjusted the cable but its still the same - is there a clutch inside the gearbox which may be the problem ?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No probably not.. usually there's some way to adjust the cable to tighten the belt a little more. If you close the handle for self propelled does it close real easy? Usually there's a spring on the cable itself. If that cable isn't pulling a little bit on that spring, it's to loose and the belt won't tighten up enough.

  • @legallyinsane7151

    Great video Rudy - Look, I have the AWD front & rear wheel drive. I think the front axle gearbox is bad, but the rear wheels seem to work if the front wheels are raised off the ground. Do you think I can remove the front belt & just use it as a rear wheel drive?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there's two belts, yes absolutely... If the front wheels cause any drag, as they sometimes to, you might be able to remove the wheels and remove the cog that engages the wheels to the transmission, and that should free them up.

  • @BradySzabo
    @BradySzabo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    About 1.5 months ago, we talked in your comment section. My mower is AWD and has 2 belts (mower model 17739).I took pictures but should have taken more, as I forget which belt goes on the upper pulley on the blade shaft and which goes to the lower pulley. Lawnboy.com sent the wrong belt, twice, for the mower, once to me and then the dealer. I can’t find a repair manual showing the process. Debating on gathering all parts and dropping off at service center but labor rate is $85 an hour. If So much time hadn’t’t lapsed, I believe I would have remembered what went where. Lesson learned, takes more pictures if you need to. Using your video and belt number for the rear transmission and will try assembly that way by also looking at your pulley height to see where the belt rides on the pulley. Ay try AWD function without blade for safety.

    My self propelled lawn boy (model 10732) was having an issue when I tried to go backwards. The wheels kept locking up and I was basically dragging it. So I removed the wheels, took sandpaper and cleaned any dirt/rust/corrosion off the rod. Then I lubed everything up and put grease on all the gears. Now I don't have any issues and the wheels move freely in both directions. However, now I notice (and maybe a coincidence) a noise by the wheels when going up a hill almost like it's slipping and not engaging. On a flat surface it's fine. Any ideas? The grease shouldn't have caused this. It could be that there's a plastic ring gear inside most plastic wheels. I wonder if one of the teeth are broken? If it's not that, the metal gear that comes from the mower usually has a pin thru it if you pull the gear off. That pin needs to move back and fourth freely.. it could be that too. It's hard to describe in this message here, so hopefully this made sense.

    • @skutsenkow
      @skutsenkow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JLPicard440 if I remember correctly, the wheel has metal gears inside it that sides onto the shaft assembly which also has a metal gear (held on with an E-ring) followed by a plastic sleeve. That sleeve was super dirty and had wear marks on it. I tried to sand it down smooth the best I could and sprayed everything with silicone spray.

    • @JLPicard440

      @@skutsenkow Yes you should be able to take that metal gear.. the smaller one held on with a E-clip and turn it one way and it turns freely, turn it the other way and it's locked to the axle.. did you try that? If it doesn't behave that way, it's because that small pin that's exposed when you pull the e-clip off and then the gear isn't moving freely inside that shaft..

      @skutsenkow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My 10515 lost 3rd gear and is losing 2nd, with a rhythmic grinding preceding loss of gear. It still runs fine in first, but shifting is a bit stiff. I figure this is either a slipping pinion gear (in the trans, not the wheels) or shift keys, any idea which is more common or more likely? What are the most common and likely failures in the Lawn Boy 3 speed gearbox?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never actually had one of those here for me to work on. I looked up the parts breakdown and there are three different gears inside of there with a pinion in common. There's a shifting mechanism that moves the gears from one gear to the next, sliding on a shaft I think. (From what I can see in the pics). If it was mine, I'd take it apart and see what's up.... it's already broke so you can't make it much worse! Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you. It'll probably become obvious what's wrong, one you get to see inside. If you want to see the parts breakdown, plug that model into www.partstree.com is where I found it.

      @@JLPicard440 Thanks. I saw the diagram and have taken off the pan, but should have removed the ring gear to get a better look at the pinion, but was assuming at the time that it was probably the shift pins. The mower is 20 miles away from my web access, so I decided to put it back together and go learn more from the web. but now I'm thinking the sounds are more consistent with pinion than with shift keys. If I can find similar symptoms on the web, I might go ahead and order parts, but as is, I think I will take it farther apart without ordering parts. Even if the pinion was slipping, I might be able to close the gap with an added washer behind the ring gear, mow the lawn, and then consider ordering parts.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I've never seen one like that with actual different gears. Riding tractors use a pulley system that slips to enlarge the diameter or shrink it for the different gears. The transmission itself is only one speed.

Tho only thing that makes Snappers not CVT is the notches in the handle.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly the belt is stretched out a little. There could be something bent though, take a look and make sure all the pulleys are lined up before you order a belt. Is there linkage to tighten the belt? I don't remember. If it's releasing the belt to much and it's to loose when not engaged that would make it come off too.
