  • The Canon M50 is a great entry level mirrorless camera from Canon. As we saw in part 1, it’s quick powerful and gives you the full control you need to get very nice cinematic shots.
    In this tutorial, I will show you how to get cinematic footage from the Canon M50. We will look at things like framerates, aperture, shutterspeed, iso, picture profiles and much more and work to get the cinematic look we all want and love.
    I’ll show you all the settings you need to get a flat image to begin with which will then let you grade your #canon #M50 footage and style it just the way you want.

    I'll say it again, you're the best on TH-cam for quality camera stuff, even for noobs like me...I hope you never sell out and become one of those fancy shandy youtubers that has 20 secs of content and 11 minutes of self indulging video clips with fancy editing that don't that say much. I have three TH-cam channels and I am camera-dumb, have only used cheap point-and-shoots and handheld video cameras like the Sony Handycam. When the last one started crashing, I researched and chose the Canon M50 and have been fumbling my way through, watching video tutorials and pulling what is left of my hair out, LOL. You present the information in such an easy to understand manner, thank you! I shoot a lot on my mini -farm, but my biggest challenge is that I shoot next to my house (with hunter green siding so I hang a quilt behind me at times) under an 8' wraparound porch roof on the east side of the house. I've only done a couple of videos so far, still trying to get the basics down to get the look right. Once I accidentally had 4K turned on, yikes, what a disaster! Generally, I try to wait until afternoon because morning light is so harsh, but I've had trouble with pictures being either too dark or too yellow-looking. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I keep watching and tweaking settings. I'll be referring back quite a bit to your videos, I'm sure. Appreciate it! ~Cynthia

    Thank you! Really useful. I have the Canon M50 and had some technical issues which I resolved with Canon UK’s help via Facebook messenger. 1 connection to a PC via usb cable didn’t work so had to use WiFi method. 2. If you download the Cinestyle .pf2 file & it won’t load onto the camera (ok button is greyed out in the utility software) then rename the file & shorten in to just “Cinestyle.pf2”. That worked for me 😀. Although the settings didn’t exactly match the settings highlighted on technicolour website so I had to manually adjust Saturation to -2.

    I agree 100% - I learned to like Technicolor Cinemastyle and it makes me feel a little bit more like a real camera man with M50 and RP. And a lot of great movies have much lower contrast than the standard picture styles which pop at the first moment but lower contrast with good blacks and whites is at least more realistic!
    I set up a simple place to make videos from me and some slide overlay and the RP works wonderfully (M50 should do the same but I like RF35 f/1.8 more than EF-M 22 /f/2) with a little bit of grading (usually just increasing contrast by some amount and saturation only slightly).
    Only thing with Cinemastyle: At least EOS RP Full HD video is a little bit on the soft side so I increaesed the sharpness a little bit - with Magix Video Edit Pro where the build in sharpness settings do not enough. M50 seems to be a little bit sharper/crispier from scratch.

    You're getting more dynamic range when turning on highlight tone priority which puts the ISO to min 200. Also, I read that you won't get out as much from the M50 when using flat color profiles because it's only 8bit. That's probably why they didn't integrate C-Log. I got Cinestyle, the VisionColor styles and Marvels Advanced on my M50 but I got the best results when just using a custom neutral color profile (sharpness -2, contrast -4 and the rest 0)

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dean, appreciate the feedback and you contributing to the channel. I think the EOS R can shoot 8 bit C-LOG (and 10 bit externally). I'm sure they wouldn't add C-LOG to an entry-level camera on principle. It wasn't added to the M6MKII either which is a more powerful camera. Makes sense that they keep it as a differentiator for the higher end models. Thanks for the insight about the neutral color profile!

    What shutter speed would you recommend for shooting indoors having the room ceiling lights, without using any studio lights? Where if we follow the rule of thumb to keep double the shutter speed in accordance with the lens length , generally we get the light flickering. So should I break the rule of thumb?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the reason for the flickering is that you're probably using the wrong Video MODE. If you shoot NTSC (24, 30 or 60fps) in a PAL area of the world, you will get flickering. And vice versa. If that is the case, switch to PAL and shoot at 25 or 50fps. Let me know if that helps. (you should always follow the 180 rule unless it's for creative purposes - rare)
