Why wouldn't it? It's a fantastic cinema lens on a perfectly usable, modern camera. There's nothing about this that should be unexpected to anyone that understands the value of good lenses and how good modern cameras are. The buying advice for camera gear has ALWAYS been invest in good glass over new cameras.
Yes lenses are far more important than cameras, I would take a $4,000 lens on a $400 camera any day over the other way around. The one tip I always give to beginners is upgrade your glass, not your camera. I do most of my work with a 400mm f2.8 VR which is a $12k lens, but I shoot sports and breaking news most of the time as I'm a photojournalist. I've been doing more and more video these days, especially when I'm the first or only press on scene of breaking news stories that Los Angeles stations may buy. The LA Times or similar paper's pay $350 for images, while local TV stations pay $500 for video, so why not do both right?
Patrick Smith this is so wrong. The best lenses bring out the best out of the camera. But a better camera will always look better with a relatively cheap lens
I was in a studio shoot with a dolly that cost 50K that had basically the Arri Alexa Mini rig from the start of the video. That total was easily 200K with lenses/mattebox/follow focus/monitors. Video gear is expeeeeeensive. Also you almost always rent it, so you usually don't have to buy all of that stuff yourself.
My favorite video yet! Sometimes you cant see how one thing can impact another. This video really hypes of gear but also shows you that lots of things are possible. One step at a time.
It's a cinematic tripod that has really smooth movement (scene in clips after he shows the price) and it is also capable of holding large amounts of weights while still being light itself for moving around set and such. Would you want to put your 70-120k camera rig on a $500 plastic or carbon tripod mount? The smooth sliding swivel head on the tripod alone is over 3k
10k for a tripod WTF?? I came across a Arrl Matte box for at least 9500 bucks! That's just obscene but if one is filthy rich enough in the film industry especially in Hollywood then something tells me they wouldn't in the least bit be complaining about the absolutely phenomenally bonkers high price tag! Mind you any product with a colossal high price tag from Arrl and Alexa range when it comes to cinematography is hell bent in the tune of the extortionately expensive which is equivalent to that of the Roll Royce Sweptail, Bugatti Divo by the list of the World's most expensive cars all rolled onto one by comparison!

In my (admittedly pretty limited) experience, your glass will affect your image WAY more than your camera body. I mean, lenses affect everything about the composition of your shot, whereas I would say that the body is more or less just a case of picking out which one has shadow/highlight/color quality that you like. Take a look at Best Cinematography winners/nominees from the last few years. Almost all of those have been shot on one of the 4 big ARRI systems, the main differences are in the lens choices. Like Dan Lausteen (DP for Shape of Water) only used Zeiss Master Primes that he got a camera company to make the anti-flare coating into a removable filter so he could flare the lens exactly when he wanted, for exactly how long he wanted.
Lenses affect bokeh, color, highlight and shadow rendition, they affect your sensitivity to light hitting the sensor, the sharpness of the image, the DoF. I could go on and on but the point is; lenses definitely make the camera, the camera doesn't make the lenses.
The final footage looked quite amazing! Would have been awesome to see footage from this rig using the Magic Lantern Firmware hack on the Anamorphic setting!
I worked as a Cam Op on a music video years ago where they had camera C as a Canon 5D and a Zeiss CP.2 EF mount lens for some run and gun action shots (I believe it was the first cine lens with a DSLR style mount option), this video brings me back to that shoot! Quality glass is so important! And are you going to change your channel name to just 'Potatoes' now? hahah

"What did you guys think? Could you tell the difference?" Nice question PotatoJet... but you didn't give us an example with a $50 50mm or some other basic lens. So there's no good comparisons.
The look of the unprocessed still image or footage is the result of the entire capture system, not just one component like the body. Any item in the optical path will bring its own characteristics, including its flaws, to the final product. The fewer the flaws in a component the closer the end result it to perfection. Flaws are subtractive of perfection and the compound upon one another, creating the final qualities of the capture. The item in the capture path that is farthest from perfection will always have the greatest effect on the final product. A lens can't improve or add to the characteristics of the body, nor can the body improve or add to the optical characteristics of the lens, so to answer the Matti's dilema: decide which of the two is most or least flawed. Gimbals, monitors, grips... these don't affect the qualities of the captured image, they affect the cinematographer's ability to maintain desired compositions throughout the scene. Add subject matter, lighting, grading, editing, and audio to the mix and the package for emotional influence is complete. IMHO the body had very little to do with the vibe of the final cut. The body brings bit-depth, exposure accuracies, dynamic range, color rendering, data-compression and processing. Yes the Arri would certainly beat the Canon on specs, but what some might see as flaws and limitations in the Canon, are in my opinion, just different characteristics that bring their own look and feel to the work. Every tool is a valid one if it creates the look you are seeking. As we all know - even a crap camera in the hands of a real artist will result in amazing works of expression regardless of how much money you strap onto it.
