Thanks for this. Got all the nodes set up the same. I have used an animated icosphere to mimic an ear stud on a face portrait on a 2D plane, but because it's small, it doesn't have much impact.I have put a spotlight behind it to make it brighter, but that fades the colours. Can you recommend a way to illuminate it properly? I am very new to Blender. Thank you.
In my example I use a three light set up. This is because refraction is used to scatter the light. Therefore lighting it with only one light won't have as much impact.
@@blenderbitesize Thank you kind person. I will set up multiple lights for it and see how it goes. Any idea on light values? 150w for a 0.13m wide icosphere is about right? It's hard to see what the lights are doing as I'm using cycles without GPU support.
When I get to the part where you start connecting the shaders, my material shows up as a blue color instead of clear/colorless, and I'm unable to see any of the color dispersion by the end. Do you have any ideas as to what might be causing this? Edit: I realized I forgot to connect the two Add Shader nodes together! Thanks for the awesome tutorial, this was perfect 👍
Any tips about trying to export maps to render crystal in an external renderer of some sort? This looks great in Blender, but I'm not sure how to replicate this kind of thing outside of the program.
Sadly I only have experience of using the render engines that come with Blender and so can't offer any direct help with this question. I am confident that you will find your answer on TH-cam though. There are many channels that cover engines such as Octane etc.
How do u export it I added an image texture but when I adjust the metallic and roughness it doesn’t save the metallic and roughness only the image texture plz help
Thanks for the question. You add math nodes to two of the three colours to shift them slightly + and - to aid the refraction effect. Therefore there will always be one colour that is the standard or default value. It just seemed easier and "cleaner" in the layout to make the centre colour (green) the default.
Is there any way to get crystal made with this kind of shader to cast caustics light and shadows that use the Red Green blue? I know that Blender can now cast caustic shadow effects but I don't think it separates light colors in the caustics like a prism does in real life.
Hello there, The shader is stunning, I downloaded it, but the node tree just don't appear and I struggle to see how I can apply the shader to another object ... really a beginner here, didn't find the answer elsewhere ... Please help me 😅
@@blenderbitesize I mean how to model it, this id icosphere(?) or something that came out as a sphere but the shape of faces were like that correct? But if I want to make it in different shapes that not sphere but with the same looking as that. Idk how to say it, hope you understand

Thank you for the kind words. 🙏
Beautiful, simple, and easy to follow. 👍
Thank you !
Love these tutorials! Appreciate learning why we do things, not just what to do. Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
this channel is so underrated, thanks for your hard work 🙂
Thank you so much. Its slow but steadily growing. I'm grateful for all comments, likes and shares.
Just what I needed for my project. Thank you ♥

Glad you got sorted.
hi there! I had a question, my material is greyed out, I can't make it look like a diamond texture, what could it be?
I'm not 100% sure but things to check could be the render engine, refraction settings and that you are in the appropriate viewport state.
I had this same issue and it was all in the render settings.

You've added an image texture to the crystal glass shader?
thanks
My pleasure.
Many thanks for the tutorial. Crystal glass looks really nice 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Curious to why you did not add Math node to the green shader? 🤔
Thanks for the question.

@@blenderbitesize this is by far the best looking crystal glass 🙀 Thanks again for sharing!

🤔 An interesting question. I'm afraid to say that I don't know the answer at this time but will add it to the list and look into it.
@@blenderbitesize Thanks. I think I have tried to find a way to do this but have not had any luck.
I love a challenge.

@@RocherArdent You're welcome.
How do you make the sphere be rectangular like that?
Shade flat instead of shade smooth.

@@natsunwtkIt was a standard icosphere which is built into the software.
@@blenderbitesize yah, but I want the same ico looking but not sphere but some other shape. Do you have some tricks to provide?
Use low resolution/face count and shade flat.
Anyone here can direct me to the ambient lightning?
I see other layers and not getting the same result :(
Do you mean the lighting in the scene?
For anyone who has troubles using this method : make sure you're using Cycles and not EEVEE, or else the shading won't work.
Great tip, thank you for sharing.
@@blenderbitesize I realized after posting this that you said you were using Cycles right at the end of the video x)
@@TSREMYO82 No worries. Still happy that you shared the tip. :)

just one question how to make the shape of this crystal glass?
🥲
I'll try and do a demo for that soon.
