    I would go with the plain edge as I have never been into serrated edges. I would go with the green handle too as I dig the benchmade green. Little bigger than I thought… not a bad thing. On my list of considerations for sure.

    Just picked up a serrated edge one. My hardest working, beat them up, knives tend to have partially serrated edges. I find them very useful for fibrous materials and all sorts of things. I never got the hate for them and suspect those plain edge "hard use" knives are safe queens.

    I like the plain edge versions better... I like combo edges, but the blade length and edge type has to be right in relationship to the amount of serations. In this knife I prefer the plain edge. Excellent Zach!

    plane edge looks nicer however the serrated is more functional. serrations are better for rope cutting etc as we know

    • @JR-lg7fd

      ehh.. more functional for certain tasks maybe. still a preference thing.

    • @andrewkeeton3627
      @andrewkeeton3627 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The “rope cutting” argument is so stupid. I’ve literally never had trouble with a plain edge on rope and really how much rope does any one person cut in a day compared to everything else? What else are serrations more functional for??

    • @nickuschrist5967
      @nickuschrist5967 ปีที่แล้ว

      Serrated is a downside since it's not covered by life sharp

    • @kirkvilla9781
      @kirkvilla9781 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewkeeton3627 I work my own ranch in southern Montana, I cut a lot of rope everyday because of hay and halters and junk straps for hauling. The plain edge gets dull and if not sharpened daily will make cutting the twine and rope a pain in my rear. But it is a personal preference. If i didnt cut as much twine and rope i would def stick with the plain edge.

    • @jirinafrankova166
      @jirinafrankova166 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewkeeton3627 serrations give you technically more cutting edge at the same space of the whole blade. It cuts way better through many different man-made materials. ;)

  • @Patriot-rising
    @Patriot-rising ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Plain edge for me I only have 2 autos with serrated edges and carry them when the cutting applications for that day require it.
    When I served I carried a 9600 with serrations. Long before that I carried a Gerber 06 but had problems with the fine powder sand stopping it for always fully deploying. Great knife but not well designed for playing in the worlds largest sand box.
    Some of the OTFs were fine but after cleaning them out you wanted to get rid of as much lubes as possible. That find sand truly works hard to make sure everything you own has sand in it or on it.

    Serrations! From experience, they work wonderfully on seat belts, rope, nylon twine, web gear, etc. However it’s a personal preference…if you don’t want to fool around with sharpening serrations and they don’t fit your needs, go with the straight edge. Easier to sharpen and maintain overall. Now that I’m in a “desk job” perhaps I’d go straight edge now…

    I like the plain edge and green handle, though I wish they would use a DLC coating instead of that non stick frying pan thick coating on the blade. As well as a plain non coated blade version which I would prefer even a satin blade would be better I just am not into black coated blades that much.

    I have no problem with a partially serrated 3.4 "blade - especially in a quality steel like CPM-D2 . Yes , serrations can be a little tricky to sharpen , but in an emergency situation I believe they'll make quicker work of a seat belt or rope , while not having to be quite as sharp as a straight edge to do the same thing .

    OK value at $200, or less. My hands aren't particularly sensitive, but there are some mildly irritating sharp edges, easily felt between the scales. Paint on the blade is rough and grainy, but easily smoothed out with a scrubber pad. Opened 2 longnecks, and can already see the coating chipping off the spine. Used a sphericle dremel bit to relieve the inside edges of the scales, so it's much more comfortable in hand. Needs another 8-10mm of blade, but BM is now too woke to offer folders over 3.5". Submitted review on the BM site last week, but it has not been posted, and probably won't be :(

    If serrations are an option, more often than not I'll go with serrations. IMO they add character and enhance the look of the blade(not always, but a VAST majority of the time)and they can add an intimidation factor(Cold Steel Marauder Bowie is a great example of this). Both of these claymores are beautiful knives, but, without hesitation, I gotta give it to the serrated one.
