    There's actually a $9 knife at harbor freight that has g10, bearings and 8cr13mov. If they can do that any knife over $10 should be able to have g10 over grivory. With the size of Cold Steel knives they might be the exception.

    • @sgsheff
      @sgsheff ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tonyochoa7097 it's definitely the price. The lite versions aren't like Spyderco's lightweight versions. The lite versions all purposely use lower end materials to drop the price. That's how you get a 4" sr1 lite with very thick blade stock for $30.

    I carry every single day, and use my knife all the time.
    There is a reason that Spyderco has earned a spot in my pocket, and relegated everything else to backup, or the drawer.
    Better design, good locks, great materials, and the best selection of steels available.

    • @joecorzine8057
      @joecorzine8057 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything you said is true I like Spyderco to I own several! But Spyderco‘s warranty is not as good as Benchmade‘s not even close!! They do make a damn good knife there he treatments are done very well just like Benchmade but for me, I like the long Road relationship with the knife company if your warranty isn’t very good because after all, we all know people that totally miss use knives Benchmade don’t care they will replace the blade with no questions asked spider call will not replace the blade. They will modify the blade to make it work again, and I know that from first-hand experience and I feel as much money as you pay for Spyderco you should get the same warranty is Benchmade but again they don’t do that. I don’t abuse my names so it don’t bother me but if I was the one that did abuse knives, Benchmade, hands-down would be the one I would buy and that’s it.

      Spyderco makes some of my favorites but their customer service sucks. I sent a knife to them needing new plastic washers. They told me they couldn’t fix it. They offered me a 20% off of there high msrp price to buy a replacement. All I needed was $4 plastic washers.

    • @joecorzine8057
      @joecorzine8057 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you on some things with Spyderco yes they have the best selection of steels available for sure, and they do decent heat treatments on those steels, but their warranty is not as good as Benchmade‘s not at all look it up if you don’t believe me. I own several Spydercos, myself, and several, but Benchmade’s, there’s something to be sad for not doing so many steels like they become really good at heat, treating the steels that they have. That’s why S30V from Benchmade always outperforms S30V from spyderco. Now I agree Benchmade’s prices have gone through the roof and I do feel like that is going to hurt them in the long run whereas spidercos pricing has been somewhat the same yes still going up, but not as much going up, but not nearly as much as Benchmade.

    Another good opinion vid. IMHO Benchmade have been overpriced & poor value for a couple of years now. I've noticed they've been thinning out their blades. They try to spin it about better slicing performance etc. but I don't buy it. The cynic in me feels this is a silent cost cutting measure. Pay more get less. Same applies for use of FRN etc. for handle scales. If budget brands can use G10 & micarta for $50 why can't Benchmade? I'm NOT saying don't buy, just consider if you're getting value for $$$.

    Yes I agree,..... bought a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter @ $235.00🗡🗡🗡🗡
    When it arrived I looked it over.
    Upon inspection it felt like a kids toy made in China.
    I promptly put it back in the shipping box and sent it directly back!!
    In its place I bought a Bradford 3 Sheepsfoot with jade scales Bohler 690 steel and blackwashed blade.
    What a simply gorgeous well made EDC. fixed blade,...it's simply awesome and I love it!!!
    I also own and love three other fixies,...first is the ESEE Xancudo,..simply beautiful and rugged!!
    As well imown the ESEE Izula in s35vn with custom scales from Knife Connection,...it's a beautiful beast of a knife.
    Lastly I own a Spyderco Enuf with a 2.75" leaf shaped blade,..the knife has been discontinued by Spyderco,...that being said I'm sooooo happy I purchased one before the cut in production.
    The good news is you can still get in in drop point or warncliff blade type.
    Yep Benchmade,.. you can take ALL your cheaply made,...overpriced "knives" with crapvory plastic scales and put them all where the sun never shines.
    And as well stop supporting the communist party with your huge donations, . .Spyderco is patriotic so guess whitch one I buy from,....yep,...you win a cigar it's spyderco FTW. Baby!!!

    Benchmade is trying to molest its customers as quietly as possible. I'm convinced them trying to make another "world's most lightweight pocket knife" is really just them cutting down on materials and pumping up profit margins.
    But don't take my word for it. I've hated Benchmade for the longest time. I despise my custom shop MCR. The Superfreek is their best knife by a MILE.
    I'm sorry but I'm gonna make a blanket statement... when I meet "knife guys" who say Benchmade is their favorite brand, has the highest f&f, etc..., I use it as a very safe proxy to judge their intelligence... and it's not positive.

    The Benchmade Freek in your video is a cool knife, however the Houge made Ritter RSK in magna cut beats it like a drum at less than half the price. Benchmade has lost their marbles on their pricing for sure . I have a dozen or more Benchmade knives in my collection but no plans to buy another at current pricing.

    Benchmade is shooting itself in the foot. Riding on the fame of the Axis Lock, which patent ran out, hence Hogue using better springs for the DEKA and SOG using their version of the Axis Lock. Benchmade's sharpening is horrible. It has been this way since 2012 at least. That is when I bought a Presidio Ultra and the grind was done by Stevie Wonder. Their Lifesharp service also takes 6 weeks now. You would think with a backlog of sharpening, that they would get good at it.

    Agree with you 100%. Both of those knives look incredibly cheap; and that’s because they are. That grivory looks like a material suited for sub $20 budget knives. And yes, it is flexible which is not exactly a trait I consider an advantage in a knife- let alone one that’s well over $200. That handle on the Redoubt is especially hideous with that kitchen “vegetable scrubber” texture on the top. Both knives are a massive fail by Benchmade. Ultra cheap handle material, lower budget steel, and poor aesthetics make it extremely difficult to justify buying either when there are so many better options on the market.

    For sure.
    I’ve completely lost interest in Benchmade’s stuff because of their uninspiring designs and iffy quality control alone, let alone the ridiculous pricing. They’re just not that special any more.

    Hi Kev, the prices in Australia for folding and fixed blade knives are the same as in Canada, they are absolutely over priced and a rip off. Its a lot cheaper for me to buy knives overseas and that includes shipping costs. Take it easy buddy

    Great Rant ...🤣😅 Totally Agree.
    I Love Benchmade and own a ton of them , But they are a Weird Company , it's like one of the Big Wigs down there has a Severe Case of Recurring Alzheimers and thinks he's back in the 80's , sometimes their pricing is Severely Off , almost like someone added a numeral to the price by accident , when I first saw those knives I thought they would definitely be under $100 easily because of the materials , But Nooo Benchmades have to be Double the Price ... It's Sad , but those knives probably won't be around long ....👍🖖

    I just cannot pull the trigger on a Benchmade. I have handled more than several at SMKW over the years and the models that look good to me online feel flimsy in person and for 154cm and cheesy plastic I just can’t fork over $170. I have a few dozen knives and have owned more than 100 different makes and models over the years, and I can count on one hand how many times I’ve spent more than $170 on any given knife. And many of them using nearly the same combo of materials as Benchmade, for 60% of the price or less! I think it is just ridiculous price gouging! Again, my opinion.

    It's funny over the years I would keep spending more and more money to get a better knife but lately its been reversed, like I keep getting better knives and the prices get cheaper the better they are lol. Not counting the American companies obviously.

  • @michaelmechex

    There are so many people saying plastic handles are super weak and fragile, but I have never seen one break. I've even seen the blade break before the plastic handle. Also on the price front, G10 itself isn't expensive, but as most things, it isn't that simple. All these plastic handles are moulded, which is very cheap and fast process once you have the moulds made and everything setup. G10 though has to be machined, which is much more time and labor intensive. They are made in the US, so labor is the vast majority of the price difference. I wonder where the economy is going if even americans can't afford american made products...
