@@Jason_Maier Are we starting a betting pool? I'll go with the under and say four. Dennis Allen and Todd Bowles are good for two apiece and I'll be conservative and say Dan Campbell will have one. My bonus pick, Jim and John Harbaugh will each have two. Anybody else?
Mike, you should be in the hall of fame by now, but the shit you did during your last three years in Denver really left a sour taste in all of our mouths, especially when in both 06' and 08' we had a playoff berth practically giftwrapped for us, only for us to collapse down the stretch and miss the playoffs by losing in the final game.
"We called a TO with 24 seconds left. That was dumb; now what do we do? I know, let's run a fake FG to pick up the first down so that we can run the clock down to 1 second, which is what we should have done to begin with." That's the only thing that makes semi-sense, if you're willing to disregard the health and safety of your pro-bowl kicker.
I hope you do a Charley Johnson video to commemorate his recent passing. RIP to a member of the Hall of Very Good who started the process of Denver's conversion to a respectable franchise
Another interesting thing Shanahan did in 2006 was announce Jay Cutler would make his first start in this game before the Broncos-Chiefs game the week before. Veteran Jake Plummer started against the Chiefs, and that would be his last start.
As of when this video is posted (9-4-24 for those watching on the future) .... on JG9, we have 144 Dumb Decisions to 18 In Defense Of; a perfect 8 to 1 ratio
Just so everyone knows, the least you can wager on a Daily Double is actually five dollars. Still, I'm sure all of JG9's points are the same with the five dollar wager.
The only way...and I do mean the only way...this could make any kind of sense to me, would be if the Broncos were down by a field goal with less than a minute in the 4th quarter. Then I could see getting the kicker to move the chains so your offense could set up for a touchdown drive. But this was right before halftime, and they were UP by a field goal. So that rules that out. Kick the field goal, which should be a piece of cake with a kicker of Elam's caliber, go into halftime up by 6. NOT whatever this was.
I'm just now getting to this video because for some reason I thought from the thumbnail that this was the Nathaniel Hackett flubup from a couple of years ago
Man. Show me on the doll where Mike Shanahan touched you, JG9. Yeah, it was a dumb call. The clock management made it even worse. But you were on fire with this one. :)
Mid to late 2000s Broncos were quite painful to watch with a combination of bad coaching and a questionable running game. 3 out of 4 seasons they have late season collapses, especially 2008 (blew the division to the Chargers) and 09 seasons (started 6-0 under McDaniels and completely collapsed).
If it had been a fake fg pass in this situation that goes for let's say 15 yards to get it to goal to go, I could understand that. Call your final timeout with 17 seconds and have 1-2 shot the end zone. A fake fg run with your kicker? Unless Mike Shanahan expected either A) For Jason Elam to morph into Usian Bolt or B) Every member of the Seahawk defense to magically get caught in quicksand, there was absolutely no chance in hell (and I'm sure even Jason Elam would admit it) that was going for 6.
This was actually a great tactic. Denver had another timeout anyways, and the tactic works out the same way as a 4th down play of going for it on a run/pass play. Only, anticipation of a field goal means a special teams lineup instead. Meaning once Elam converted, it worked out for making the kick anyways. But great analysis nevertheless especially with the 100m example
Come on Mike your my favorite head coach on the Denver Broncos of all time and you make a play where you went for a fake field goal and then you actually kicked a field goal let alone your kicker gets injured on that fake field goal play John Madden is right this sequence doesn't make any sense whatsoever
Hey Jag, as much as I hate to relive that God-forsaken play, could you do an in defense of the Butler interception from SB49? If I remember right, you had mentioned that it was nowhere near as bad of a call as it was made out to be sometime in the past... that and you could make it on the 10th anniversary of the play, which will hopefully kill the meme
Hell, I put in a request during one of the UFL livestreams to do one for next week, since the Hawks and Pats are tied by like 1000 things (but only a few here): 1)I-90--though you would have to double back to FB if you took it all the way to its eastern terminus 2)Pete Carroll 3)The LOB game, which was also the last away touchdown in Aaron Hernandez' career (also not a banner day for Gil Santos, Scott Zolak is a jackwagon so I expect nothing else) 4)The above was decided by a point, the next three literally at the 1 5)UNC backups--Sam Howell and Drake Maye 6)First game without Wilson or Brady on either roster (active or IR) since '93 BTW a note about that second game in '93, it was won on (what else?) a one-yard pass from Mirer to Blades with 25 seconds left. So one can literally make the argument Rick Mirer >>>>>>>> Russell Wilson😆😆😆😆
I doubt it. People would just call him a contrarian and the discourse will go on. Although I would say the problem wasn’t the call but Mr.Unlimited throwing the ball in a bad spot. Either way, running the ball was still the better option.
@@OfficialJaguarGator9There are a lot of moving parts and pieces with this play I think you could make an interesting documentary about it without going into D-Squared/IDO mode.
And this was also Jay Cutler's first start, which could also be put on Shanahan as it was a kneejerk response to the Broncos' two-game skid (though it was a short week pair of night games). They'd lose this, split the last four, and miss the playoffs by a game. For the record, Cutler was sailing along pretty well until he got pick-sixed by Darryl Tapp. He and Brandon Marshall had I think the longest play between rookies, or at least the most recent. Tough to say if they make the playoffs sticking with Plummer though.
These are my favorite segments!!!! Been a long time subscriber of your channel and love your content!!!!
When John Madden says your play call doesn’t make sense, you know it’s a gargantuan, unbelievably dumb decision.
"Ask Madden" wouldn't call this play.
John had a few of those as HC himself....
Damn so the Broncos making stupid decisions against the Seahawks, specifically about field goals, goes way back before 2022 huh
Mike Shanahan is a much better coach than Hackett, so him doing this is very odd.
@@big4horry oh for sure big respect to Mike
@@big4horry As JG9 said, this was about the time he started to lose it. His mishandling of RG3's injuries with the Foreskins was probably even worse.
As a Broncos fan I have waited years for this to be the topic haha
Can't wait for the 2024 Dumb Decisions. There might be one or two 😂
I predict Mike McCarthy will have 5 Dumb Decisions.

The Over/Under is 39.6 Dumb Decisions (TM) this season.

Never thought I'd get nostalgic for something from 2006 - but here we are. Al Michaels and John Madden on SNF... we never knew we had it so good.

That kind of decision making is why the Broncos fell off on Mike Shanahan's watch. He put Jason Elam in danger for no reason.
On Jeopardy, the minimum bet on Daily Doubles is actually $5, but I get the point of what JG9 was saying when he said $2 anyway.
I hope you do a Charley Johnson video to commemorate his recent passing. RIP to a member of the Hall of Very Good who started the process of Denver's conversion to a respectable franchise

You are not allowed to bet $2 or nothing on a Daily Double. A contestant is required to wager at least $5 on a Daily Double.
