    I found that a 7/8" hole saw bit with the pilot bit removed fits the opening perfectly to gently cut away the stakes prior to pressing or beating out the old caps. 7/8" = 0.875 = 22..225 mm, just slightly larger than the 22 mm opening in these u-joints. Cut in just far enough to remove the stakes, I used a handheld drill motor and it worked perfectly. I then had a clear path to push out the caps. A soak with penetrating oil, then a bit of heat and out they came.
