  • In this video Gift and I met up with one of our subscribers "Martin". Martin tells his story about why he and a buddy of his decided to retire in Thailand. Martin also talks about his modest monthly cost of living expenses in Thailand. This video was uploaded from the Foreigner Joe Channel recorded in 2020 and is what I consider, one of my best interviews. Martin has such a positive outlook on life and while he lives a very modest lifestyle, he is one of the happiest and most down to earth people that I have met. Martin and I still stay in touch today and he is planning another trip to Prachuap Khiri Khan, in the very near future. Thank you for watching. Please like, share and Subscribe. Amen to Martin, he speaks the truth about Thailand and the people there I totally agree. Thailand is amazing and very beautiful and like I say to everyone I talk to if you never been I highly recommend you go at least once in your life. Can’t wait for travel restrictions to be lifted so we can get back there.

I've been to Thailand 3 times(2016,2017,2020) Thailand is an amazing place. As soon as the restrictions are lifted, I'm going back. And as soon as I turn 59.5, I will be making Thailand my home. I hope to be neighbors with Joe :)

Sawasdee krub Thai Girl Gift and Foreigner Joe. I love your channel and I think this could be a very good series of videos, introducing expats and let them explain their motivation for retiring in Thailand and what their experience is like. I am in Canada, like Martin was, and I understand how much he wanted to escape the political correctness. At times it is unbearable, at least for me. I am 52 years old and I can't wait to the day I retire in Thailand. I have been there 20 times, I miss it, I love it, I love the people, they are real, human and authentic, not robots like in Canada. I know there is no perfect place, but for me, I call Thailand home. God bless you both, and Thailand and the lovely Thai people. Thank you guys.

I saw some guy talking about retirement budgets. He claimed the average was $48K per year. That is B.S., because I only get $2,100 per month on Soc. Sec.. Most seniors, like me, live off of that income. Good for you if you make more.

Brian.....my Social Security is only $843. I was not aware that a persons SS amount depends on what their wages were. At $843 I find it hard.....I am married and my husband is retired and receives $1900. Per month.....so you state $2100. That you get, is not much....I feel it is a large amount.

25,000 Bhat is $690 USD !!!!!! I heard a guy say on another channel…..If you make $35k USD, you are a 1%’er. I can’t stop thinking about that. The quality of life in Thailand with a modest pension is so appealing. My next vacation, I’m heading and doing a little recon.

Retirement visa is for 50+. Financial requirements change but at the moment it is 800,000Baht in a Thai bank account or 65k monthly (or a combination of both). There are rules around how much be in your bank account throughout the year (visa renewal anniversary) but check those out on the Thai Immigration website.

He is also on an O-visa retirement so as of right now no health insurance required for him. That’s not to say he doesn’t have any. If I’m not mistaken, I believe he told me that his rent is somewhere between 6-8 thousand baht a month. He said his total living expenses are between 20,000-30,000 per month.
