In this video I talk about turning 62 In Thailand, and the complete process on how I filed for social security benefits from the beginning to receiving my first payment. I also do another test using the new DJI OSMO Action 3 camera and the DJI Wireless mic.
    www.ssa.gov/
    ph.usembassy.gov/services/social-security/
    LOGIN.GOV
    Camera used DJI Action 3
    Mic used DJI wireless

Oh my goodness! I’m 80 this year. I have no health issues, I love to travel, I consider Thailand my home. I have a Thai husband.
I feel like I still have a long time to enjoy life.

My first husband was killed in Vietnam, I draw from the military, but I don’t feel it’s taking anything. My kids were raised without a Dad.

So sorry for your loss. Your late husband made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. IMO, there is no amount of money that the Government can give you, to make up for the loss that you and your kids suffered.

I am a federal employee with the USDA. We have a program that if we retire at 60 with 20 years of service, the agency pays my social security until we reach 62 then SSN takes over. Not a bad program. Also, we can stay on our health insurance at the same rate until we are eligible for medicare.

I also have Dji Action 3. Great camera. Exposure settings. On the rear screen ...on the right hand side ...in the middle ...click on icon (looks like 2 parallel lines). Then ...top right corner is a 'PRO' icon . make sure that it is on ...if on it should look yellow. Below that click on "Exposure". Then set it to "Auto" not "M". Then Left hand side set it to "+0.0EV". On right hand side set ISO range to 100-12800. Click "Confirm". The 2K and 4K settings that you mention ...in theory ...should only affect resolution ...not exposure. Hope this helps. Regular video mode looks better. The sound is excellent.

Joe, I thought the video and audio quality was great. I could not tell the difference. I retired exactly one year ago. I traveled to Australia and Thailand the very next day. Very helpful video. I am back in Indiana trying to figure out when to return to Thailand. Long time subscriber, first time commenter. Keep up the good work! Joe from Indianapolis.

Joe, I'm happy to hear you have things worked out for your social security. The mic and camera... The mic is perfect the way it is don't change a thing. The video is a bit darkish but it's really not that bad. The only problem you may have is on a cloudy day or walking into and out of places, buildings, etc. I just watched a video about the settings "Osmo Action 3 EVERY button, setting, & feature EXPLAINED" and he says to turn up the brightness for outside sunny days. Hope this helps. Take care. 🙏👍

Live in Thailand. I start collecting social security November of this year. They don't have figures for American males living in Thailand but I'm sure it's longer than the United States. The food here is much better for you the healthcare at least in my opinion is the same quality as it is in the United States perhaps better. And far less expensive so I'm not suffering from sticker shock everytime I go to the doctor.

The sound is perfect. 😊 you are right not to wait (if you have the choice) for 65-70 years to enjoy the present moment because we can never be sure of what awaits us. The life you currently have is priceless and you have already made the right choices to leave before your retirement. Enjoy even more now!

Hi Joe, I have similar backgrounds, came over to the U.S. as a Vietnamese refugee at the age of 11. Lived through the war, started life delivering newspaper in the middle of winter at 5am as a child that couldn’t speak any English. I have one more year to go before retiring in my current govt job and going to Chiangmai. I too will be collecting at age 62, did my math and came to the same conclusion. Enjoy your retirement life and thank you for the SSA information.

I love Chiang Mai, good luck with that. One warning though ... have you researched the air pollution issue? I'm planning to spend time in Thailand ... but I'd only stay in CM 6 months of the year. For the smoky months I'd spend time on the coastal towns or islands.

Joe, very interesting watching your latest posting. You and I have a lot in common. I've been retired in Bangkok for about 15 years but in my past history you and I both have the same backgrounds. I was in the military for four years and then I worked as a teacher with the Department of Defense overseas schools. That gave me a total of 35 years of government service which is pretty good toward the pension. I have my federal pension from DOD sent to Bangkok every month. I don't get much in Social Security because we didn't pay into it as teachers with DOD. I let that small amount of Social Security go to Bank of America account in the USA. Having the pension transfer here each month is really a pretty good deal there's a minimal transfer fee and the exchange rate is excellent and it's always there on the first of the month. I would never recommend anyone try to get their visa based on that in income every month however. It was so difficult dealing with the Bangkok Bank to get verification of that income every month. AND BIG BANK FEES! Hard to believe since they're the ones receiving the money and holding the money etcetera but it was impossible to deal with with Big Bangkok Bank every year. I've gone back to the 800,000 baht. Deposit

Good idea to get feedback on the video settings. It looked light the natural light that day was rather flat (hazy, not much blue). Under those conditions I wouldn't expect to see much difference. I'd suggest doing a retest on a bright clear day.

The mike is perfect. It's clear and not too loud or soft, but the best part is there's no wind noise. The HDR mode does seem to be a tad darker in this video, but it's kinda hard to tell because you're walking in and out of the shade, and the sun pokes thru the clouds now and again.

I've mentioned before on your videos that I've been traveling to the land of smiles since 2000ish. I went on the 9ths trip of my good friend who had gone once a year for 9 years so I started out with a big head start on most people. That was around 26 years ago and having been there 30 times of so since I've learned a lot on my own. That said, I've learned and re-learned so much from watching your videos, and Chucks, even the Chocolate man. Its so helpful to see other peoples perspectives and videos like this are super informative.
After I first traveled to thailand I was amped up and thought I'd retire there long ago. Things change and I've stayed here mostly because of family. My son Graduated from UCLA in december and today he got his first job, My daughter is 27 and doing great so now this info is getting very helpful. I'm 61 in august. Ive already come to the conclusion its going to take at least a year to organize, sell all of my stuff and rent the house out here so theres a good chance I'll have the SS thing worked out before I arrive in Thailand but its comforting to know if I come before that I can use your info and get it done outside of the US.
I say this and I'm starting a new business...lol I'm crazy! Thanks again.

Hey Thai Girl Gift and Foreigner Joe, good to know where you are on your walk through life. I am pretty much the opposite of you.had it not been for my back I probably would have stayed on that job until I was 65. Being forced into retirement at 44 was hard to handle. I did have a part-time business at the time and we were going into the the Christmas season so that kept me afloat until the retirement checks started coming in and between that and what I got from Worker's Compensation I actually was making more than I was when I was working.

The good thing about collecting at 62 even if it is not full retirement is that you are getting more money than at 66. Supposedly your benefits are for example 25,000 per year x 4 years is 100,000. And it would take you like 10 years for you to recop this money if you wait until 66 to file for social security benefits.

Sound good on both. Preferred crispness and sharpness of first camera you used. (DJI Osmo)

You have a good pension. You taking your pension early provides you with more cash flow when you have the energy.
Those of us with little or no pensions likely would want to postpone for safety of living too long. Not always about what makes sense on paper. “winning”
    Thanks for sharing
Sounds like you made a good decision. Have confidence. Enjoy the extra $$$

Great video but this one and the last one seem much darker. Youre 2nd home video and all of them before were much brighter and better to watch. Even the last 2 thumbnails are darker. Love the channel. 👍

I too am living the life 👍🇺🇲 Watching on my phone, picture quality is better with the second camera 👍 When you turned around depending on sun and shade affected the picture. Still pretty good quality. Sounds great, volume is fine.
