I love how you consistently demonstrate how simple box modelling can take you far in creating the basic silhouette. i kept thinking I gotta sculpt and retopo my stuff then sculpt in higher detail with the better topo
yeah sometimes a simple box model is enough
Lol i didnt expected a jojo reference here

So in this case I did the uvs on the initial low poly model I made at the beginning of the video. I could have done uvs right there, but I waited until sculpting just in case I changed the shape while sculpting. Since the sculpting didn't really change the shape much I just did the uvs to the low poly. So the uvs here could have been made immediately after modeling as well.
Excuse me, what is the instrument at 1:15?
I know this was 3 years ago, but I've been watching a lot of your videos recently to practice my own 3d skills for my final year/s of my college program. These videos have been super helpful with inspiration for my own ideas, I want to be a concepter or modeler for a studio.
Nice! That's great to hear
The mug is the work of the enemy stand!
Haha you never know
seriously your stuff is so awesome...you helped me so much with your tutorial.
i'm still fighting with substance painter and getting all the bakes right but it slowly comes and works better day after day :) thanks so much for this...you basically opened the door for me and now i just have to go the (hard way) through it!
I'd love to buy more full scale tutorials from you.
Awesome! Great to hear the videos are helping. I am working on another big tutorial at the movement :)
@@3dextrude oh yes i wished so hard for it :) can you tell us already what it is going to be about?

Great job, this person makes it look so easy!
Dude you are very talented artists. keep it up man.
Thank you, highly appreciated
@@3dextrude i was wondering if you could make a video about how to use wacom tablet pen with maya? what techniques and shortcuts do you use? i also want a realtime tutorial about using zbrush for adding detail to the mesh, i am so noob at zbrush. I wish you success and prosperity and wealthy.
สุดยอดเลยครับ งานละเอียดมาก ♥
excuse me ,i would like to know how to set up the scale for the standart of game

Jesus. Those straight lines are incredible. I can't even do straight lines with a mouse let alone a pen.

Thank you for teaching me how to use both Maya and Zbrush.
I use to export in Zbrush by locking the edges and then I couldn't subdivide.
And if I don't lock the edges beforehand the subdivision would make the edges smooth.
Not I know how it's to be done. Thanks a lot. None of my profs were able to solve my doubt and always make up random answers
Awesome#
The mug worthy of the biggest tauren in the horde
Haha
this is posible to do in blender
I am pretty sure , yea
Blender has all the tools you need, it's a bit of a learning curve from other software but it's free and fully featured, it has the sculpting tools, UV tools, texture brush tools, material/shader graph... you could absolutely do this in Blender (certainly the new 2.8 betas) but it would take a lot of time. I am primarily a blender user and I've gotta say, the new UI they're giving it certainly makes things a lot easier to use :)
this is glorious!
Thank you!
Wow this design is incredible! Do you have a download for it on your website or Patreon? Really fantastic work man, love the style.
Thank you! Model is not currently available for download
Great job as per usual!!! Love these vids shows what you can do with brushes easy. Speaking of brushes where can I find that TLF wood brush/alpha I need it!! ♡
I added that to my brushes pack at gumroad.com/3dex

Nice mug, but if anyone gave me a cup that shallow looking like it's not at a restaurant id be so pissed lol
Haha, it's full though
Cool! How long did this take from start to finish?
about an hour
@@3dextrude gosh that is quick. I'm building something similar as a blender learning project going from maya to blender.
Had a chance to have a go on blender?! It's very impressive.
@@Stormy101 nice, I haven't done anything with Blender yet , but I might look more into it in the future
Grt 😀
hey what is ur pc specs like graphic card and processer....for doing 3d modeling....??
Hello, maybe im asking this a bit later, but compared to the rest of the videos youve done, most of them, making a 3d asset, the UV is always done before sculpting. Thats completely irrelevant right? doing the UV´s before or after the sculpt its basicaly the same or not?
The uvs are done on the low poly model and not the high poly so you can do them as soon as you are done with the low poly model.
How come you baked each map individually? did you change the settings per bake? does it improve the baking?
I do this because I want to see if there will be any artifacts on the bake which is mainly visible when doing normal map. Painter used to take longer to bake as well which is why I separated the bake in parts in case it crashed in between bakes.
Just insane
Thank you! Too kind
Should we unwrapped both mesh high poly and low poly or only just low poly ?
Just the low poly, high polys that are baked to the low poly don't need uvs.
Hi can't believe i only found your channel now, its so helpful. Would you be able to do a video on a realistic chesterfield armchair for games, specifically interested in matching the low poly silhouette to the high poly. Should I just retopologise the high poly in maya? Or how would you go about it.
You can retopologize it or you can also model it in Maya and as long as the silloute doesn't change much use that as your low poly.
Hi 3dEx ! As usual, great tutorial ! I was wondering about the wood stamp brush you used for the handle and where you got it please ? Thanks in advance !
I made it : gum.co/stylizedbrushes
How did you applying different materials onto the different parts of the mug without I'd map or going under the different materials section in sp? Did you just artistically paint on the color?
By making by geometry
Why do not you use the "Layout" option of the UV Toolkit? 7:42 It does this step automatically
I don't work in Maya, but I assume it doesn't do it well enough.
I do use Layout, but the result is not always very good.
Awesome, bro! How much real time did you took for this?
It took one hour and 30 mins to make. Thank you!
Do you prefer creasing over adding edge loops manually? Personally, I duplicate my low poly mesh then add edge loop then export to zbrush then work my way to final render. Nice work btw.
I used to do that too, which does work; now I do creasing or also add supporting edges but in Zbrush with the zmodeler brush
Learned so much from just watching how you work, slowed down the playback speed tho
hi, awesome job, just a curiosity, what's your startup material in zbrush? looks really nice
That's the orb material. You can get if from Michael Vicente(orb) tutorial on rendering in Zbrush. In comes with his tutorial
@@3dextrude awesome, thanks for the quick reply
Awesome
Really amazing!
How long has this work taking?
This tool an hour and a half, Thank you!
When u export ur model to substance is it better to have it as a hole object or keep them seperate?
Honestly it depends on the model, I usually prefer to separate things for Painter; you can always merge and weld pieces after texturing
@@3dextrude thx
heyyyy i like your work alot and m somewhere inspired from you :)
I wanna ask you that you also use plugins right ???

Hello, how do you pass an emissive material from substance to maya to render in arnold?
... my god, so many triangle and Ngone 😱
Can you upload courses in udemy ?
How much time so far have you been in the 3D industry? That's an impressive job!
Close to 5 years professionally, about 8 years since I started learning 3d.
@@3dextrude Nice! I just started my degree at the 3D School and I wish one day I can enjoy being able to do amazing things like yours :) Keep it up
You will! Do lots of modeling
As someone who is planning on going into into this field in the future, it's really interesting seeing how multiple programs are used. I'm creating a character in Maya and planning on animating it for my senior project. I'm kinda new, so would you be able to re-import zbrush into Maya and then animate it with a rig?
You don't need to import a zbrush model to Maya; you can bake the details on the Zbrush model unto the low poly model and then import the textures to Maya
Me: Trying to do the same thing
ZBrush: MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA
Did you do the turntable in space turning in substane or imported it back to maya to do the tuening of the object? And how did you get the neon green to glow
It was done with Marmoset toolbag
What is the software then you used to make the render process?
Marmoset Toolbag
Очень круто!
Super
This looks fantastic. Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy Zbrush, and they don’t have a free student licence. Are there any good alternatives?
There is Sculptris, but it's really limited. I hear you can do sculpting in Blender as well. 3dcoat also has sculpting tools as well.
Are there slower versions to these videos? I'd really like to understand the process.
There are, but they are not narrated though. If interested you can sign up at 3dex.net/premiumpage/
Great vid. Do you soften edges when exporting the low poly for baking? I get shading errors sometimes when I bake to high. Maybe not enough geo?
Not always. Usually I harden edges where I have uv cuts. The thing is Painters normal map baker is not really that great. You can get better looking normal maps in Marmoset or even Xnormal. Obviously that requires the extra step of importing that into Painter. So if you want cleaner looking normal maps I recommend baking outside of Painter.
@@3dextrude Thankyou
Hi, i love yout videos, they are helping me a lor, but while watching and trying to make this, i had a question: How do you isolate only the cup, without the decorations or the handle, to be able to smooth only that part and work only part( 2:00 ), and later on, you do the same with the handle(6:14), how do you do it?
When he imported the model to zbrush he most likely did 'Split to parts' in Subtools menu. The mug was made out of different meshes in Maya so Zbrush can divide them into different subtools, then he just used 'Solo' mode when working on individual pieces.
Now 3d print that boy.
Мне напомнило это Варкрафт все супер
hi, great example of making props, i have been using this process for years, but one question, Should i unfold UVmap before export the low poly from MAYA to Zbrush?? I always unfold UV before export, but i do not see u did this step in ur video. does it make any difference?? THX
You don't need uvs for Zbrush, but you do need to uv before going to Painterl.
If I join would I get the normal speed and whole process on detail?
Normal speed, but without any narration though
how many polygons did you end up having? did you do a retopology after you carved the details in zbrush?
No retopology, used the original model from Maya. I think it was about 800 vertices?
Very nice tutorial, thank you :)
Hey. Great work. I want to start using zbrushcore by gettin a cad workstation. Do you really work with a less then 800 $ laptop? I mean is there no technical limits? Thank you.
The laptop I used was more than $800
Hey! I have a question... You do de UVs only on the low poly object, so you won't have displacement maps right?
You only need uvs for the low poly model, the high poly details are baked in; you can still have displacement maps.
@@3dextrude Cool, thank you so much!
HELL YEAH
how long did this take to create?
If I remember currently I think it was an hour or hour and a half.
you did some edgeflow mistakes but its a nice result :)
what is the name of the first program
Maya
Modelas como si estuvieras usando plastilina.... genial :0
Gracias!
Hey ! Really nice job ! just a question please ^^ How did you make the fight line on the mug ? There is some special brush to get or other ? ^^
For the lines I use the orb brushes which you can find online by doing a search for orb brush pack. Alternatively, you can also use the dam standard brush or even the slash brush at a low intensity.
@@3dextrude hm thanks a lot !
It for Warcraf Reforge ?
Nah, for fun
when you imported the mesh from maya to zbrush, why not polygroup parts of the object and crease by polygroup? instead of creasing each edge yourself. in my experience it's both faster and cleaner
Yeah that would have been a good way to do it.
I drag material and select faces to apply it, so how to deselect selected areas? in substance
The same way as selecting but paint your mask with a black color insteaf
Is Trim Dynamic the best brush? Of course it is.
Haha
so im curious?
Is it a normal map that you are exporiting to substance?
Cause you didnt UV in maya before you took it across to zbrush. Just curious of the process
Block out in maya, Normal map sculpt in zbrush, then texture and shaders in substance?
Please help i must know!
I made the model in Maya. Took it to Zbrush for details. Exported from Zbrush. In Maya made uvs on the original model that was initially made. Exported model with uvs to Painter. In Painter under the bake settings assign your high poly that was exported from Zbrush.
Hi buddy, could you link me to the TLF alphas you used in Zbrush specifically the wood alpha that you use on the end of your handle? The TLF_WOOD_03 would really love to pick these up. :) Brilliant art as well!

How did you use the uvs of maya on the mesh of zbrush? Projection?
I Substance Painter I baked the details from the high poly unto the low poly that has uvs
Any chance you could export that as an STL for 3d printing?
Hmm, possibly. I haven't done 3d printing so not totally sure.
How did you make it so that in Zbrush, the Zremesher didn't round the edges? Was it a crease thing? How do I find it?
Wait nvm I found it lol.
Can you share it?
@@wasquiat On the right side, if you pause. Click on "Geometry" to open a list of stuff, under which is the crease tool. Search up the Zbrush crease tol for a more indepth tutorial. :D
then how you render it with maya?
I personally render in Marmoset Toolbag because I like real time renders, for maya you would have to import the textures and apply them to an arnold material to render using arnold.
@@3dextrude wow thanks!
