  • How confident do you feel? Has your relationship with confidence changed over time? Margo and Tashira check in and talk about the ways that their confidence is showing up at a big age, and how resilience and other characteristics play into one's ability to own that confidence and take up space in a patriarchal society.

    Being at the really big age of 70, I grew up in South Berkeley, CA, in an all Black neighborhood where excellence was visible to the right and the left. I was totally convinced I could do or be anything until I went away to college to the University of Texas at Austin. It was there that I was hit smack in the face with the way the world felt about me. It has taken me years to disabuse myself of the world's erroneous notion. I discovered just in time that I'm the business. Xoxo 💕

    "I worry that I take up too much space..." OMG...I distinctly remember having a high profile law gig in DC in my late 20s shopping for suit and thinking about not getting it because it would make me look too powerful...smh

    3. That upbringing sounds so nice. Black girl from Haitian immigrant parents and the FEAR I was raised with!!!! It was so important that their girls stay ignorant of their power, intelligence, and beauty. Like the worst thing on earth was to walk around as if you were all that. I don’t know if they were afraid of what would happen if we discovered that we weren’t? Or that we were?!

    I'm here and from Texas. There are tons of wise, educated women in the state. Part of what happens in Texas is wildly racist, but completely legal redistricting that shifts what our votes and voices look like. One day I'd love to hear you two discuss how redistricting silences people.

    Speaking on “Be sweet” the other twin to that is when we women are asked to “smile.” That. Ish. Grinds. My. Gears. Too many instances to count where I’ve been called out by the patriarchy for not smiling or just smile etc. I digress. Loved everything fiscusssed in this episode girlfriends. Love the show! Could you have a recap of the Super Bowl and the how payment of already top music artists not getting paid for performance done at an high level of excellence. Did Jackson State receive a substantial payment for their time, travel and scholarship? Why do we have more black half time performers but we working for only Recognition and not payment? Something is so wrong with this.

    How has your experience with confidence changed over time?

    • @Boymom2012
      @Boymom2012 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ve realized over time that confidence takes work. You can’t “fake it” - you must be intentional with action and dealing with truth, embarrassment, guilt and fear. At 50 , I waiver. It’s not realized through podcast, osmosis, books or being around confident people. YOU are what you believe. Knowledge is key.

    • @a_sweetjourney
      @a_sweetjourney 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was not confident when I was young, as I was the only black student in my elementary school. I chose to disappear into the environment and became really shy. During my last year of elementary school we moved to an entirely black neighborhood where I was accused of speaking too properly and trying to be white. I believe the confidence I have now, came from exposure, experience and education (not sure why my brain thinks in alliterations, maybe because I was a Kindergarten teacher.. who knows). The more I was exposed to new information, cultures and ways of thinking, the more I understood and made connections. The more experience and education I gained the more I had (have) to offer. That allows me to be incredibly confident. Also, I don't have to be right. I find more strength in being curious. I find myself lacking confidence when I am lacking in one or more of those areas.

    I'm here for the woo, but, I am with Margot and the bone broth! If you have ever had digestive issues, then you understand. Now, as far as that unseasoned soup, it's unnecessary! You can season your soup with herbs & salt-free seasonings. C'mon, Margot, just a morsel of seasoning won't hurt the soup.

  • @csmtcqueen
