      +eddieisfiction Yeah, I hate that aspect of stat counting. When I was in high school we played a team where the QB shoveled the ball up instead of handing it off on fly sweeps. Gave their QB a ton of yards that he didn't earn at all, and if there was a miscommunication between them it would be ruled an incomplete pass instead of a fumble... Lost a game because of the later in my Sophomore year.

    • @Falcon4224
      @Falcon4224 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +eddieisfiction That wasn't the intention of the "incomplete pass" though. Yes, it's smart, but it's really a loophole in the rulebook.

    • @Jonathan-hd3hg
      @Jonathan-hd3hg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The point isn't that having a good completion percentage automatically means you will be good. It's that if you have a bad completion percentage (in the 50s) in college, you're going to suck in the NFL as well.

    20-18 W/L for Hack, Goff was like 14-23 and he went first overall. He also had a bunch of games with multiple INTs including one with 5. Goff also has nobody to throw to in LA. Hack has Decker, Marshall and Forte if you want to throw him in.

    Im a senior at PSU and ive watched almost all of his games, he is great. The past two years his numbers fell i think because we had no offensive line. He had like 2 seconds before there were people breaking through, then he would either have to take a sack, throw into coverage or scramble and thats a lot to ask of a guy. I think he's got the body and arm to be in the NFL. He's kind of a douche cause I've had class with him and he's not exactly the most humble guy but I'm rooting for him.

    I think all the Quarterbacks from this draft are Jake Locker/Christian Ponder/Blaine Gabbert types. Nothing special and wont electrify the league.

    • @Drummajortsu
      @Drummajortsu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MrrMuyaagi I think Cardell Jones could be pretty good if he gets drafted by the right team. If Keap gets traded SF should take a shot at him in the second or 3rd round. Urban Meyer system for QB's is similar to Chips.

    • @nelsonchereta816
      @nelsonchereta816 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Drummajortsu The moment you say he could be good if he gets drafted by 'the right team' that's pretty much admitting he's not special. Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady would have succeeded anywhere, now they might not have won championships or maybe been hall of famers if they were on terrible teams, but they would have been really good no matter where they played or for any coach or system.
      A quarterback who has to be in the right situation brings to mind Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, or Matt Hassellbeck. Quarterbacks who were good enough to win championships in the right situation or be mediocre in the wrong one. You don't spend a first round draft pick on that kind of quarterback.

    • @Drummajortsu
      @Drummajortsu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nelson Chereta You're completely wrong. QB's run their systems. They like having the same philosophy in place. Drew Brees never worked under Marty Shoteninhimer in San Diego the way he did in Sean Peyton system.
      Joe Montana was in the perfect system in SF. You couldn't ask him to take 7 step drops and chuck the ball down the field.
      You need to get that "system" espn spin out of your head. If you put a player in the best position to win it happens. Too many people buy into not being innovative and that's why the same teams win and the same teams lose.

    Dude if you saw him in his Temple game you will see 3 things:
    1.)His Oline is ass, Temple sacked him with a 2 man rush. You can't do anything if they can sack you with nearly no pressure at all.
    2.) He's a very smart kid. He made many good changes at the line and his command of the hard count was great and made a very stout NFL-style defense in Temple jump and show their coverages.
    3.) His accuracy suffered because of dropped passes, and throwing it out of bounds because his receivers ran the wrong route, or he didn't get the protection he needed.
    I see him as a Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler like guy. Granted they are not great, but i would rather have them than a Brian Hoyer, Mark Sanchez type dude. If he goes to a coach like Arians or O'Brian, he could be a very solid starter.

  • @LiveConcertJunkie

    Why do people always scout college QBs by stats. Don't believe the "lets all hate Hackeinberg" hype. Look up his film and people analyzing his film. This guy is smart as hell and was able to call out blitzes and coverages easily. He also did this with LESS control of the offense than in his freshman year. I'm not saying he's the next Luck or Wilson but this kid is a very good prospect.

    EJ Manuel - 68%
    Jamarcus Russell - 67.8%
    Kaep - 65%
    Johnny Manziel - 69.9%
    I could go on and on, but completion percentage means jack shit like most other stats. QBs from college is a crapshoot, some pan out, most don't.
    Selectively using stats to prove your point - ESPN 101

    • @VargoProductions
      @VargoProductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mistahsingh Exactly. What people don't realize is that the offenses are so much different in college. There are teams that run 20 bubble screens per game, so of course a QB's completion percentage will be high in that scenario. Using one stat to "prove your point" is just dumb.

    Ok you can quote 56% until you are (Penn St) blue in the face but until you understand the unique situation Hack was placed in at PSU you don't understand why it was 56% instead of well over 60% as he suggested it should be. Hack thrived under O'Brien and with Allen Robinson, then tanked under Franklin and after Robinson and with that awful line. I get it that he struggled on short throws and that would concern me too but he's got the brains and the arm. I great video to watch is "The Film Room Ep 12: Christian Hackenberg 2016 NFL Draft Scouting Report" which shows exactly why he was struggling so much a year ago. It wasn't due to a lack of ability or effort on his part.

    All those guys with 60+ completion % had a functional o-line. Hack was sacked in 1 second vs a 2 man rush against temple. A 2 man rush and the guy who sacked him didn't get touched. Let that sink in. If any of those other ones had that happen to them, then I will agree with using this % as a metric to judge a QB, but we are comparing apples to oranges here.

    Penn State QB's are lacking...no offense to the Nittany Lions fans. Also, when Herd mentions quarterbacks throwing down the field @ 1:22, why did he put Brady's ass up there???

  • @nolan0077

    Completion percentage does not always reflect accuracy. Poor decision making, bad, protection, and inaccuracy can all be the reason for a bad completion percentage. Watched Hackenberg throw in his pro day and at the Gruden Camp. The dude is accurate, great mechanics (over the top), and has a strong arm.

    good lord, yes the offensive line didn't do him any favors, but look at all the passes he blew even when he had 4 seconds in the pocket!! 56% completion in college?? by comparison, another famous penn state quarterback in kerry collins completed 68% of his passes his senior year!! HACK never was a top ten college quarterback...how the hell is he gonna excel at the next level?? 4th-5th round draft pick AT BEST...solid THIRD string quarterback somewhere.

    • @MegaGam3rsUnited
      @MegaGam3rsUnited 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Gass Are you kidding??? The kid was sacked 103 times in his career at Penn. 82 in his last two seasons which btw Paxton Lynch only was sacked 57 in his whole college career. The most allotted time he had during plays were up to 4 seconds after snap which for college is atrocious and would cripple any QB. He also was an amazing passer and all around quarterback with O'Brien but when Franklin came in he changed his fundamentals. It is a known thing that when Franklin came in he changed everything about the offense and tried to change how Hack threw. SO you tell me a QB who was sacked as much as Hack, told to change his fundamentals, and dealt with minimal talent at the WR position due to sanctions that he should be a top passer than you dont truly understand anything.

    You can't judge that offensive line?!?!?!?!?!!? Are you kidding??? The kid was sacked 103 times in his career...82 in just two seasons....that offensive line was atrocious...hell in one game he was sacked 10 times and was only hurt once out of those 103. Any quarterback wouldnt complete that many passes with that kind of line.

    • @VargoProductions
      @VargoProductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Geraldo S That's because "prototypical" QB's are the ones that win Super Bowls. Dual threats are almost never successful. The only dual threat QB to win a Super Bowl in the past 10 years was Russel Wilson, and that's because he had the best defense in the league and a great RB. Other than that, who wins Super Bowls? Both Mannings, Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, Flacco. All prototypical QB's.

    • @geraldos9094
      @geraldos9094 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christian V. Dual threats are generally new to the game. Most NFL coaches has not taken the time to learn to coach them. Dual threats mostly dominate college football and it's coming to the NFL....Cam, Kaepernick, Russell have been to the last 4 Superbowls....Bridgewater made the playoffs, while the young prototype QBs seem to be regressing...Matt Ryan, Stafford, Romo are all pulling 100M contracts and can't make the playoffs. Luck hasn't lived up to his billing either in a very weak division...there is no reason Indy should miss the playoffs in that horrible division.

    • @geraldos9094
      @geraldos9094 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christian V. Are you seriously saying that those QBs didn't have the top defenses in the league when they won the SB? Manning was awful last year, Flacco defense was #1 when they won, Pittsburgh defense was #1....now your argument is falling apart quickly.

    • @geraldos9094
      @geraldos9094 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christian V. Locker, Ponder, Gabbert....prototype QBs fail all the times...somehow nobody notices when they flop. These teams just draft another one which is why the Pats has dominated the AFC for the past decade.

  • @MrBrunoGI
    @MrBrunoGI 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ha, funny. Yea he didn't complete as many passes as you would like, but you do have to account for his oline not giving him the time, finding the open man, taking the sack, forcing throws. Throwing the ball away. Then you have to look for drop passes, how many of those misses were on the receiver running the wrong route. If your not watching tape, you won't know. If your a GM and make decisions based off stats alone, then that's how teams pass on top talent, many of whom end up in the HOF. So in the end who is the joke? And how do you set school records despite the aforementioned problems if you aren't any good? You don't.
