the spirit of the rule was to stop people from throwing the game. Pete bet on his team to win. _completely different._ *Let Pete In*

Pete was wrong to gamble on baseball. However, Johnny could be more cordial during an interview. It’s long ago now.

These rumors date back to the 1970s. New York sportswriter Dick Young actually wrote about it when Bench was still playing and Bench is still p.o.'d about it. I don't know, I've never seen any proof of it.

I'm really sick of the anti-Johnny Bench group out there. Okay, he was tired of the questioning; he and Pete Rose had a falling out for several years. They were never best buddies to begin with, but they were great teammates. Mr. Rose's betting and his story and banishment tarnished what should have been Bench's 1989 Hall Of Fame induction. Rose got himself kicked out of baseball, and it took him way too long to come clean on his wrongdoing. Bad auditing designed to make Bench like a louse.

Every time I have heard Rose speak on Bench and other players he has said nothing but nice things.. Bench always felt second fiddle to Rose as he was the hometown boy who became the hit king and has the street next to the stadium named after him. Also an iconic statue of his headfirst slide is adorned in front of the Reds stadium to honor him. Bench has always come across as a jerk even before the gambling thing came to light.

Don't hold back Johnny. Tell us what you really think...
Pete Rose and all the steroid users both accused and admitted that qualify, should be in the hall. PERIOD. Call it the steroid era if you want, like the dead ball era but the Baseball Hall of Fame should be about what you do on the field, not off.

I don't think that Johnny ever got a fair shake here, especially coming from Oklahoma. Pete was Marge Schott's pride and joy hometown boy. Johnny wanted some of the glory here and because of Marge and the city of Cincinnati, he never got any recognition (or very little of it).

And without rules you got chaos. Do you want chaos running the New York Yankees?

Johnny was always a little gay. He told Perez he would like to re-arrange Perez's package on live TV. Now that is gay !!!

Bench is recognized by many as the Greatest Catcher in MLB history, but that's not good enough for many who can't stand the man. That's not right at all...

I used to think that Johnny Bench was a very upstanding person in Cincinnati, until I heard that he was (is) a flaming homosexual.
