  • I changed the transmission fluid and filter on a 2008 Pontiac Vibe. 2003-2008 Pontiac Vibe's share the same A246E Toyota automatic transmissions with the 2003-2007 Toyota Matrix (with VVT-i Engine). In this video I used Mobil 1 3309 Automatic Transmission Fluid, and a PowerTorque Automatic Transmission Filter Kit that includes the gasket. Good luck on your project!

    I have a 2003 toyota matrix. 289k miles on it. The transmission calls for no service, saids right on the transmission dip stick. But I do a drain and fill every 60k, no filter replacement. I been using Valvoline Multi-Vehicle synthetic transmission fluid. The transmission shifts very smooth.

    I bought my Vibe new in 2007. It now has 98,000 miles and still runs like new. I drain my transmission pan every year. Every other year I drop the pan and remove the screen filter and clean it with brake cleaner. It is so easy to do the transmission drain and replacement procedure. I am sure the 4-speed automatic transmission will last the life of the car. It is too bad so many manufactures are going to CVT transmissions. I want nothing to do with one of those weenie transmissions. I guess if you like your driving experience mundane, then a CVT transmission is right up your ally. Long live the transmission that shifts.

    A lot of stuff isn’t done properly.
    1. Mention to tighten the bolts after dropping the pan for “crispier shift”
    2. Don’t need to spray transmission with that much brake cleaner
    3. Use owners manual for correct fluid amount instead of using barbaric gallon method (3.2 qts for Your Vibe)
    4. Use proper type fluid again owners manual (ATF TYPE- T IV)

    Cool. I do a transmission, differential and transfer case drain and fill every 30k Miles. Never dropped the pan. My 2006 Matrix has over 213,000 miles and shifts perfect. Type 4 oe fluid for ATF and Mobil 1 gear oil for gearboxes.

    So my 2004 Pontiac vibe has 236,000 miles on it and to my knowledge it has never had any transmission maintenance done to it. Should I or should I not change the filter and put some fresh fluid in it? I’ve been getting mixed information saying once it’s gone that long if you change it you might start having slipping gears what do you think about that?

    I know this video is a few years old but one question: the sealer is a good idea to hold the gasket to the pan during installation. What sealer did you use?

    • @troyhodulik5542
      @troyhodulik5542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use a black general purpose RTV. Will work just fine. One other option that will also typically work is to press the pan bolts thru the holes in the pan and into the gasket holes. Often the gasket holes are just about the same OD as the bolt and thus will hold the bolts in place for you while you raise the pan into position and then you can start threading each bolt a little until all of the them are started.

    I was just wondering if it normal to get a higher reading directly after you shut the motor off as opposed to before. Mine comes to the first hot line while running and right after I shut it off it shows it's passed the 2nd hot line. I used 4 and half quarts to fill mine back up.

    • @KollynJ

      Reads higher after shutoff because it’s draining from torque converter and made to be read while running

    Is it a good idea to change my Transmission fluid 03 Corolla with 68K?

    • @SiameseCheese
      @SiameseCheese 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, time to change because the fluid is nearly 20 years old. Transmission fluid often absorbs water from the air. The toyotas from that generation were not “sealed” transmissions.

  • @Boodieman72
    @Boodieman72 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You get more fluid out if you extract it rather than draining it, assuming it has a way of extracting it, such as my Prius which has no way. Extracting it gets a lot more out of the pan, so when you change the filter it has less chance of it dumping all over you.

  • @mandoky1647
    @mandoky1647 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You need more than that amount. The filter pulls fluid out so you have to account for that.

      It does look pretty good. But, as stated in the video, it sounds like it has been changed at 30k mile intervals. This is why. If it had been original fluid at 100k miles, it definitely would have come out black and slightly burnt smelling. Transmission fluid is relatively cheap. A drain and fill every 30k to 45k is well worth the time to help ensure the transmission lasts as long as possible.
