    This car is very underrated from the factory. Owners are getting 215 - 220hp on dynos. Figure it’s actually making 240 - 245 crank hp. The new GR-86 is almost sports car perfection.

      The S2K chassis, that it's a roadster, and it's engine are fantastic. While the GR86 chassis is great, it's engine is a lame duck. The S2K revs for days and you can't dismiss that and it's sound. Mix in that it's a roadster, and it's a great experience. Yeah, their prices are high right now like most cars, but they are a little higher than the norm because people are finding out how awesome they are. And a last of it's kind as honda is ignorant and didn't do a last hurrah for the car.

    It's worth noting that this car is underrated from the factory. These cars are actually dynoing at 220-230whp stock, which means they're using wheel horsepower figures in their manufacturer rating now, not crank horsepower like in the past. The outgoing model dynoed at about 180whp, so actually this car is closer to a 240-250 crank horsepower figure than what the rating would suggest.

    Absolutely LOVE the GR86. My first car was a 86 CRX followed by a 85 MR2. I want to go back to a light manual rwd sports coupe to channel some of my past driving enjoyment again. The GR86/BRZ are firmly on my radar as my next vehicle, once this auto market calms down.

    My son has the base model, 17" wheels, all-seasom tires, with the six-speed manual transmission.
    I drive a 1988 Mustang GT, 5.0, five-speed. It has been lowered and stiffened to track level grade.
    In my opinion, the Toyota is the reincarnation of the Fox body concept. It's affordable, spirited,a little challenging to handle. In addition, the aftermarket tuners should have a blast with the GR86, just as they have with the Mustang.
    Like the Mustang, the Toyota drinks premium (93 octane) fuel, and it doesn't sip. The best mileage I've achieved was 26 mpg, in fifth gear on a long expressway trip from Ann Arbor to Traverse City, Michigan. If the curving secondary roads of northwest Michigan hadn't been so enticing, I might have done better.
    My son bought his Toyota in the fall. When the snow came, he couldn't drive the car safely on the stock tires; he bought Bridgestone Blizzaks and did better. I had the same experience with the Mustang, electing to drive it in the snow for four years. Nokian snow tires made the car a blast to drive.
    Thanks for the great overview on the GR86!👍

    It's a 2+2, a term which might have fallen out of use, but it's used to describe a 4-seater where the second set of seats are pretty much for emergency or other very limited use only.
    It definitely still has a torque dip between 3500-4500, but from reports of the first generation I haven't driven that make it sound like it was practically undrivably bad for someone who prefers low and midrange torque over peak hp, it is much better in comparison and certainly drivable. It's annoying in that, unless you're shifting at redline around town everywhere like an asshole, upshifting at less antisocial rpms drops you right into that zone of disappointment almost like a lagging '80s turbo, but without the hit of torque when it climbs out. I also don't love the throttle calibration and I changed out the clutch pedal spring, which really improved the feel. Turn signal definitely sucks. It's a BMW style and I'm pretty sure that's where BMW owner's rep for not using their turn signals comes from. Another annoying thing is shutting off the nannies requires seeing the goofy linear tach display (ESC isn't too bad, but TC is extremely aggressive-cutting in to kill engine power like you just drove into 6" deep wet concrete when the meager torque manages to spin the tires). That said, those are largely minor quibbles and it's a great car. I live in New England, so I got the base with 17s and it rides much better than I expected. Sure, it's stiff, but it floats over potholes better than some more expensive sedans. A taller 6th would help mileage, but I'm still getting 30 mpg calculated at fill ups, which is the same as my Focus ST and about what I expected (I could do even better if I drove like grandma. I keep saying I'll do that for a whole tank at every fill up, but I never make it very far before abandoning that plan). If you're getting less and you're not in LA traffic, then you should know you're going to get terrible mileage because you're hooning everywhere or else you need to learn to modulate your throttle. Light feet keep the engine load light, reducing power demand, reducing fuel consumption. If traffic is regulating your speed, why heavy-foot the throttle? There's a real-time mileage feedback-use it to determine best throttle pressure for a given speed setting (lightest to maintain speed).

      @mitchkelleher7972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@realmysticstrider Some people who had 1st gens and have the new one say they barely notice it. I never drove the first generation, but judging from those remarks, I think I would have hated it especially where I'm a torque over peak power person. I would say it's probably the thing that bothers me most about it, but it is only occasionally annoying and I really like the car. It could easily handle a lot more power, but if there was a tune to just flatten the torque curve out and didn't even add power, I would get that tune and be happy (it would be nice to get rid of rev hang, too, but it's really not that bad). I didn't expect a brute and don't want one, I just prefer a consistent torque curve.

It's a great car, with a great looks, simplicity in the interior, straight up naturally aspirated Boxer 4. I went with an Automatic and pleased with it. it wasn't a big enough difference in 0 to 60 time to push me into the manual, besides my last car being a manual Mustang, I just was tired of shifting lol. Mist dealerships have marked these up 5 grand, I had to do alot of negotiating to get price down and even with that, never close to MRSP, with all the added fees, taxes, and if course the big fee that the owner of dealership gets, which can run upwards of $899 . I wanted to see what the car actually drove like, but had no intention of getting anything other than exactly what I wanted, which was a brand new trueno blue premium six speed. The manager looked on his computer, and said that very car was 29 days out and it was available on the allotment. I got it in 21 days. I’m not sure how that allotment system exactly works, but I’m kind of wondering if because that dealer already had one that they sold me if they get allotted another one or not? No idea. As someone who doesn’t care about blindspot warning yada yada ⚠️ why would Subaru think manual drivers don’t want it? I would definitely want it because I’m still a more advanced driver than most people and I really don’t need it and it’s just another thing to break that being said I love having little cues in the background that add to safety. just seen the little light flip up on the mirror would be pretty nice. We are not all always operating at 100%. I’ve never hit and will never hit someone because I don’t take risks with other peoples vehicles even though I drive crazy with my own. Sometimes Work was a really rough day and you got no sleep and you’re really tired so that kind of stuff can be helpful.
