This is what discipline is all about. There's nothing like coming off of the cattle trucks and getting a Drill Sergeant in your face screaming: "Get MOOOVING PRIVATE!!! Get your shit and go!"
DS: First Sergeant! First squad has FAAAAAIIIIIIILLLLLLED... to meet the standard! FS: Company, atten-tion! Half-right, face! Front lean-and-rest position, move! Day zero was a fun day.
This video is from my class in basic. It might not be Paris Island, but this first encounter with the Army drills was definitely one of the scariest moments of my life. That's why I personally thought that this was the most discipline I've ever seen.
who cares who had it harder in boot camp or basic training, these young people are serving their country, and doing their nation proud. They had the guts to raise their hand and swear to defend the country and our way of life. So I don't give a fuck if you're Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. I say thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice and commitment. Thank you for joining the military in a time of war. Thank you for defending our nation.......thank you
That was my basic training unit from January 04 to March 04. The Drill Sergeant that said, "Drill Sergeant, second squad has not met the standard!" was my Drill Sergeant. Those were the good old days, when they actually trained people to be soldiers.
Somehow, the Drill Instructor's voice sounds very calming to me-someone who is competent, and level-headed enough to rake charge of a situation and keep it going in the right direction.
I graduated basic summer of 1993. At Fort Leonard Wood. Looking back, it was not as tough as I remember. Basic is rather corny if you think about it. I mean, it's almost in a parallel universe on how people act. But one thing I can say, I still respect my Drill Sergeants. They always gave us 100% of their effort. To this day I have never had a boss or manager in the civlian world who was that dedicated to their people.
what makes me lol is how all drill sergeants do the head bobbing thing when they giving a lecture or bollocking someone :p without fail they all do it XD
I remember my very own shark attack when I first joined the army. This video reminds me a lot of that day, that day I can say my life changed for the better. I believe everyone should have to experience this in there life. When completed it truly made me proud to be an American and honored to serve my country
I definitely give you my highest respect. I am not really sure when it's going to be my time over there, I only went through BCT for the army not even a year ago, and graduated from my AIT in February, but I'm sure it'll be soon.
The first day at Fort Jackson, SC that I will NEVER forget! I must love it since I've been at it for over 17 years and now send young men and women to the "sharks".
Lol good times, I went to Fort Knox and I thought they broke us down pretty good there, but this is hilarious at least you guys got the privilege of seeing a DS do push ups for a 'mistake' I don't think I ever saw that. But the video does bring back old memories.
im a soldier and i highly agree with you. we all have our difrences and our own good points. we all constantly help eachother out, hell the main difrences we have are our uniforms.
DS Bryan was a crazy man. Seriously, he'd try to tell us dirty jokes all the time. Something about a ring, a watch, and a p***y. He was a strong mofo too. He took me in the sand pit when were doing combatives and squished me like a bug. LOL
Actually, is it separated by certain MOSs. For example, being an 11B (Infantry), I attended One Station Unit Training (read BCT and AIT combined) at Ft. Benning, where there are approximately five or six OSUT units at. However, at other posts, the MOSs are NOT separated.
No i was in D 1/22, but i do remember DS Bauer, he was in 2nd plt, so this vid still brings back some memories. And as for all the people saying marines are better in basic, Bauer was a marine DI before he switched to army.
The DS is an Infantryman who had served in combat with the AD. Blue Cord and CIB denotes his 11 Badass status. I think in every Basic Training, even the poggish ones, there is at least 1 Infantry Drill Sgt per platoon.
@rottenvenetic It's on his right shoulder, its a shoulder sleeve insignia-former wartime service (combat patch). Also it's not air cav,it's First Cavalry Division.
Yea, thats the traning base just off of Fort Benning, called Sand Hill. I've Been there on several occasions. Me along with about 9 other family members are military, all army except 3, 1 Navy, and 2 Marines.
Cool. I may join the military..need to w8 3 more years though. It looks like basic would be very agonizing. Does it get easier after basic or is it always being yelled at and cursed at?
US army's infantry is 14 weeks. standard american army training for non-combat arms is 9 weeks, plus however long their advanced individual training (MOS training) is. i have to say though, this seems easy as hell compared to the infantry OSUT i went through in 2005
I'm in the British Army. Since doing my basic, I've always wanted to do basic In the American Army, not because I think it's easier....far from it, but to see how different it is. Basic in the BA lasts 14wks, how long does basic in the AA last?
I didn't notice it was getting soft until we came back after our first deployment, on day zero I don't recall a whole lot of teaching going on, rather I remember being smoked the whole day, I swear I bout passed out within the first few minutes getting off the bus. lol basic will always be the hardest thing I've ever done in the army, but if you went in during the mid 90's I can only picture what it was like, I heard stories.
As a Marine cannon crewman at sill we saw this every day and laughed at it . It was nothing compared to what we went through . There wasn't a day went by that we didn't see some army guy pull out a stress card ! We just couldn't balive it was that easy .
I remember a Marine tried to get smart on a drill in chow hall, he was about to get murdered by that drill. that undisciplined jarhead didn't see it coming. I was laughing inside after seeing that marweine stand at the position of at ease scared at the drill sergeant. The funny thing about that occasion was that the gunnys or staff sergeant were on the table not to far from that situation and they we're all quiet looks like they were scared by the look in there eyes too while that drill was tearing into that jarhead ass hole 😂. Alpha 1/40th FA 05 I was in.
Holy shit!!!!!!!! Two and a half more weeks??? What do you learn in your two and a one half extra weeks??? Is that the business managment courses getting harder?
That is correct.. they experimented with stress cards for a few cycles and ditched them. This is BASIC training.. your REAL training comes at the unit.
That's a fond memory. How'd you get this tape? We rucked it to the barracks at Benning, no cameras. Anyway, hooah! "Win the mind, win the day - PSYOP!"
For anyone who hasn't attended Infantry OSUT this is first 6 minutes of a very long 72 hours, and about a week of nothing but feeling the wrath of Drills and fuck fuck games making the walls sweat and rain, and then 14 weeks of hell. This is also the G rated camera friendly pickup day. I remember being a young 17 year old quite shocked at the creative vulgar words Drills could make up at the top of their head, it was quite hilarious sometimes to.
If you're not INFANTRY, your just support. There is a big time bond in the Army Infantry. Something POG's will never have. I have trained with Marine Infantry also. They are pure class. There was a bond right off, cus we know that all grunts are THE SHIT. I have nothing but respect for Marine Grunts. I consider them my brothers , as well. Hoooah
Cattle truck??? WTF is up with that? We were marched (ran) from Reception to our barracks (3/4 mile away). There were no cattle trucks at Fort Knox in 1987. We used our LPCs (leather patrol carriers). They aren't cussing either...yeah ok... We came to know our DSs real up close and personal. They took a hands on approach to training and mentoring us. Would not trade it for anything. Made me a fantastic Soldier. 23 years later, I retired. A good and caring DS will leave a lasting impression.
I grew up right next to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and always wanted to be a Soldier but I went to College for a Year and met a Marine Recruiter who inspired me. I agree it does give Marines something to laugh about. I don't think it's funny but at the same time video's are all over the net and on Fox, MSNBC and every other news network talking about the New Army Boot Camp.
It would depend most on what MOS(job) you took, especially if it's combat arms. But sometimes, especially during the summer influx of recruits, you might find yourself doing the first 9 weeks of Infantry OSUT then get shipped to your respective AIT, in which case you'll have slightly more bragging rights for not going to the joke basic training at Jackson or Leonard Wood. God this video takes me back.. Charlie 1/50 may-aug '06. I never want to see Sand Hill again haha
search TH-cam for "USMC drill instructor ass chewing". The first search result is a video that will show the intensity of a Marine Corps Drill Instructor.
@sissymomoftwo1 just curious this is a field artillery basic training...I was a BCT/OSUT training 15 years ago in the 11B infantry so I know whu your husband has a blue cord but what is he doing as a drill instructor with a blue cord training artillery
Shark Attack??? Are you kidding me? This is a day at the Hilton. I'm not sure what you guys were doing here, but this is NOTHING like what I went through at FT Lenord Wood, MO
In Basic I was Delta 2/81 out of Ft. Knox. More than once we had to drink so much water that I myself puked up water. This happened two nights in a row till my DS learned to one, put a trash can in front of me and two, not make me drink so much water so damn fast, lol. Good times!
Hey.. I was in Delta 2/19 in 2005. On day 1 after evening chow they made us drink water in the barracks and till one guy puked. Then a chain reaction started and 20 privates ended up puking. I don't know what was gross... the puking or the clean up.
ya man your'e right it's all about discipline but like i said that's nothing for Benning back in the day and if your'e really a discipline freak then go to drill sgt school.. I can promise you that when i went thru both boot and many years later drill sgt school thats like pre school with that shark attack drill sgt.
100% True...But our Corps Values and Brotherhood is still there. Soldier's from WWII/Korea/Vietnam Era's are always talking about Army BCT being way too soft. Marine's from WWII/Korea/Vietnam Era's visit MCRD PI/SD and are highly impressed with the Drill Instructors and the Training of Today's Corps. Also Marine from WWII Era to Present can meet a Marine just from out of MCRD and they'll connect because of our Brotherhood.
Can someone explain the point of the exercise at the end of the video where the recruits have to drain their canteens? Not trying to be a wiseass here, I really am curious.
A Marine who graduates from recruit training does not ever have to go through recruit training again, even if they decide to join another service such as the army. On the other hand every other service must go through Marine recruit training if they decide to join the Marines. There is a reason for that.
Coast guard requirs any enlisted prior service member to start over as well so that means there badass too lol? Come on jarhead you guys are all joke's and get hand me down and are owned by the navy lol Army is owned by Army they call the shots unlike you guys that get a check that says the department of the Navy 😂

Ft. Sill?
The Drill Sergeants weren't as cuddly in the 70's and I still slearly remember the names of the two from my platoon.
implying they're cuddly now

Hello Sir, are you still in the army?
16 years late for this post but I was there in Feb 04-Apr 04 1/79TH FA
I was A 1/19, and had a couple of these guys as drill SGTs. Brings me back.
Somehow, the Drill Instructor's voice sounds very calming to me-someone who is competent, and level-headed enough to rake charge of a situation and keep it going in the right direction.
Wow I went to basic at Fort Benning in 2005. Brings back alot of memories when I was 17
bringin back fun memories of Dix 20 years ago.thanks for postin'.
I graduated basic summer of 1993. At Fort Leonard Wood. Looking back, it was not as tough as I remember. Basic is rather corny if you think about it. I believe everyone should have to experience this in there life. When completed it truly made me proud to be an American and honored to serve my country
Are you still in the army?
Hit me right in the nostalgia.
Damn now that you said that I can agree. No one at any other job has given me that much time or effort. Well said man!
I like this video because it takes me back to basic trainning day hahahaha
I definitely give you my highest respect. I am not really sure when it's going to be my time over there, I only went through BCT for the army not even a year ago, and graduated from my AIT in February, but I'm sure it'll be soon.

was part of D1-19 back in 07 looking back it sucked and was like fml, but looking back on it now it was something I'll never forget
"Drill Sgt, First Squard did not meet the standards!"
I miss my Shark Attack.
My husband hasn't said one word in his letters what arrival at BCT was like, but I got the gist of it.
Dang you guys got lucky on your first day. We were at the sand pit getting smoke the moment we step out of the vehicle.
Alpha 1/33 way back in '95 brings back some memories
im a soldier and i highly agree with you. we all have our difrences and our own good points. we all constantly help eachother out, hell the main difrences we have are our uniforms.

I was in A 1/19. 4th Plt Raiders! I remember some of these DS's. Where did you get this video and do you have more?
That drill sgt. at 2 mins in... I would have been smoked for hours after I stopped laughing.
Alpha 1/33 way back in '95. those were the good ol' days
No i was in D 1/22, but i do remember DS Bauer, he was in 2nd plt, so this vid still brings back some memories. And as for all the people saying marines are better in basic, Bauer was a marine DI before he switched to army.

Army guards themselves and kicks more ass than the USMC HOORAH!!!
and im training to enter the Airborne/SF into the US Army also
Damn, I was 1/19 in summer of '02 - Mad Dogs. Ft Sill looks the same as I remember, and with that crazy wind whipping across the drill pad.
I'll be the first to admit, I wouldn't last five minutes in the Army. And I come from an Army family.
Me along with about 9 other family members are military, all army except 3, 1 Navy, and 2 Marines.
lmao keep the stress card in your pocket!!
Do they seperate you in BCT like by MOS? Are there different BCT's as far as the training?
Cool. I may join the military..need to w8 3 more years though. It looks like basic would be very agonizing. Does it get easier after basic or is it always being yelled at and cursed at?

I love this video hahaha welcome to day 1 boys!
Hahahaha at 4:35 that guy 's like "Shit i gotta move...."
some drill sergeants just made me laugh with their screaming :p
Ahhh! I am having a flashback! PTSD for sure thanks to my old Drills...
As a Marine cannon crewman at sill we saw this every day and laughed at it . It was nothing compared to what we went through . There wasn't a day went by that we didn't see some army guy pull out a stress card ! We just couldn't balive it was that easy .

We ain’t all top of the line... some of us are real rocks! Trust me those Marine Staff NCOs let him get his ass chewed, he deserved it.
Holy shit!!!!!!!! Two and a half more weeks??? What do you learn in your two and a one half extra weeks??? Is that the business managment courses getting harder?
haha good times, good times. It was hell at the time, but I wish I could go back and do it again now
nice screen name. reminds me of what I heard a lot off when I was in boot. Ironically, same unit you were in, only a year earlier.
Ohh wow 4th platoon was wolf pack when i went and im prolly one of he most recent who went.. what year did you go?
Damn, that brings back so many memories. Basic training sucked!
That is correct.. they experimented with stress cards for a few cycles and ditched them.

love the self language censoring lol went through in 96 and they dropped F bombs in ways that I still to this day marvel at.
I went through last year, and my drill sergeants said all sorts of curse words all the time. No censorship
I think you would make a good drill sergeant lol.
whoo.... pick up day, bag drill, and the shark attack. red phase begins now... somebody gonna fuck it up private... somebody gonna fuck it up.
wtf this is way more relaxed than i remembered it

@canthony1019 yeah that is true but do they have to be like that for everything? dont the recrutes get a break every now and then?
is this the Armored company? cuz the DS in the begining has the Armor division symbol to his right shoulder....
I grew up right next to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and always wanted to be a Soldier but I went to College for a Year and met a Marine Recruiter who inspired me. Bla Bla Bla Bla.
...Oh the days of basic, I don't know who the hell would want to do that all over again. I know I don't.
Wow. Simply incredible.
@sissymomoftwo1 just curious this is a field artillery basic training...I was a BCT/OSUT training 15 years ago in the 11B infantry so I know whu your husband has a blue cord but what is he doing as a drill instructor with a blue cord training artillery
You should try Leonard Wood, home of Engineer's and Chemical, they take their CS training all kinds of serious
Shark Attack??? Are you kidding me? This is a day at the Hilton. I'm not sure what you guys were doing here, but this is NOTHING like what I went through at FT Lenord Wood, MO
Just graduated with alpha 1-50 not much has changed haha
In Basic I was Delta 2/81 out of Ft. Knox. More than once we had to drink so much water that I myself puked up water. This happened two nights in a row till my DS learned to one, put a trash can in front of me and two, not make me drink so much water so damn fast, lol. Good times!
Or as we called it, in private....of course, Fort Silly.....
Are you the supply sgt for F 1/79?
Man....those were fun days lol
wow... and this is why i joined the Marines
Hey.. I was in Delta 2/19 in 2005. On day 1 after evening chow they made us drink water in the barracks and till one guy puked. Then a chain reaction started and 20 privates ended up puking. I don't know what was gross... the puking or the clean up.
No Problem Brother - Please It's Nothing Personal.(FYI: It's Parris Not Paris) But You're Good To Go Man!
Is this Ft Benning?
ya man your'e right it's all about discipline but like i said that's nothing for Benning back in the day and if your'e really a discipline freak then go to drill sgt school.. I can promise you that when i went thru both boot and many years later drill sgt school thats like pre school with that shark attack drill sgt.
That was nothing, Our drill sergeants were total maniacs. Had us doing pushups in the Oklahoma sun on the pavement.
what do you know have you been there?
Dan R to make sure they stay hydrated
Ah. I guess I could have figured that out on my own. >_> Thanks!
Yeah, I remember my days at Benning.
...misty watered colored memories... of the way we were...
Good ol days, I can still
aaahh brings me back.
drill instructor? i think you mean drill sgt.
Too bad it's not as tough as it used to be.
- Ft. Knox 2/46 NOV '03

Coast guard requirs any enlisted prior service member to start over as well so that means there badass too lol? Come on jarhead you guys are all joke's and get hand me down and are owned by the navy lol Army is owned by Army they call the shots unlike you guys that get a check that says the department of the Navy 😂
He said look!!!!
WOW! I was Alpha Battery 1/19 FA on January 6 2004. That must have been the cycle right before me. I hate that fucking drill pad!
