Thai stuntman Tony Jaa makes his starring debut in this martial arts action film directed by Prachya Pinkaew. Ja plays Ting, a young man living in a village in rural Thailand. Discovered as an infant on the steps of the town's temple and raised by monks who taught him the Thai martial art of muay thai, Ting is sent to Bangkok when the head of the town's statue of the Buddha, to which they pray to bring the annual rains to their drought-stricken region, is stolen. The country boy is plunged into the big city's seething criminal underworld, and forced to use his fighting skills to dispatch a parade of thugs in an underground fight club on his way to finding the criminal mastermind who stole the Buddha head so he can return it before drought and starvation bring his hometown to ruin.

I absolutely love how each fight Tony Jaa’s character Ting has gets much more difficult each time. First fight was relatively easy. Second fight was actually quite difficult due to how erratic his opponent was. And then finally the third was the most difficult mostly because he just straight up fights dirty the whole way through. It also takes up the most time for Ting to beat.

Instead of Muay Thai in Thailand, Kongfu in China, and Ninja in Japan, Taekwondo, Karate and so on.
There are self-defences in Malaysia but are forbidden to be introduced to the world because almost malays are Muslim. We all know, almost all westerns are anti-Islam. We call it as Silat (the type of name of Malay Martial Art), practiced mostly by Malay people. There many types of Silat. (Their sounds maybe weird when you translate them into English, however some of them I can't translate, there are no proper/suitable English vocabs to discribe them)
      1) Silat Pusaka Gayong
      2) Silat Gayong Pulut
      3) Silat Cekak Hanafi
      4) Silat Bangau Putih (Silat of White Stork)
      5) Silat Helang Putih (Silat of White Eagle)
      6) Silat Harimau Berantai (Silat of Chained Tiger)
      7) Silat Ma'rifat (Silat of Enlightenment)
      8) Silat Kuda Kepang (Silat of Braid Horse)
The privilege of Silat that is not found in other martial arts. In addition to teaching about several attack movement, evasive movement, and parrying movement, it also teaches us the movement of locking the enemy's body.

This was the movie that inspired me to learn Muay thai, but couldn't find a teacher to teach me. So I had to rely on the many youtube videos. Then found a Bwakaw knockout compilation videos, he then became my idol. Then I tried to imitate his training methods for a five months straight. I found out that I could never be like him in terms of speed, power and durability. But that will not stop me from learning Muay Thai

And you gotta love the feeling when the badass in the film beats the shit outta assholes. Although some of it isn’t completely realistic like when that dude kicked him straight in the liver, even if it didn’t have much strength behind it, any liver shot would make someone fall

No CGI, no stunt double in this movie. When I first saw this fight scene, I was sold, the torch bearer after Bruce Lee. Not Jackie Chan, not Jet Li, not even Donnie Yen. Tony Jaa's fighting character in Ong Bak 1 - 3 and Protectors has got to be the most devastating and believable style to ever come up on Film, no flying, no wires, specifically this movie has set the stage of brutal choreographed fighting. If I have to download in the matrix ONE martial arts fighting style in my brain, it would have to be all of muay thai!

Ting performs a flying knee over Big Bear's kick and connects to his head. Kru Tui remarks "Hanuman Kham Longka" or (Monkey God) Hanuman Crosses the city of Lanka. The poetic name of this leaping knee kick technique based upon the Thai Ramakien or Hindu Ramayana epic.
