Honestly, that’s exactly the thing I don’t fully buy into. I’ve played on worship teams for over 15 years, I have recorded and mixed music and I’ve been running sound at my church for roughly a year now and I’m all the more convinced now: What unlocks the heart is when someone authentically and faithfully proclaims the Gospel. Now, sadly some hearts will remain locked, we know that. But you’re not gonna open them through good art. Don’t get me wrong, let’s do our best! Let’s put in the effort in order to worship God with our work! But nowhere in the Bible do I see that it is our work that God relies on to touch and change people’s lives.
1) Autotune vocals 2) Audience mics 3) Stop master bus compression 4) Stop mono. Real world is stereo, stick to stereo 5) Have worship team listen to themselves (what they did good and bad). This is the best teacher. You are welcome.
Why would you use autotune in a church environment? Why do we need that kind of pretend perfection instead of authentic worship? And from my experience, Singers are the most easily replaceable part of any band so switching singers shouldn't be an issue when the original singer really feels that unfit on the day, imo.
I remember playing in a worship band with Luke in Wisconsin Dells, WI and being completely impressed on what he could do with just his piano. Good work and impressed with what you have achieved!
I started doing tip 5 many years ago and i think it really helped my playing. I feel like I annoy our sound guys with the requests so often :P Hopefully not too much.
Using a master bus compressor with an integrated HPF will help with pumping. But again it should just be lightly touching your mix, slow attack, fast release. This was great. Luke is a beast.
I am building out a new facility now where I need to have both this type of complex mixing while also having a simple console that minimally trained volunteers can use. I believe I can do this with Soundcraft SI Performer 3 consoles. With the right combination of MADI cards and compact stage boxes I should have 80 channels to mix with Pro Tools inserts for effects and subgrouping on several Avid S1 consoles.
Agree wholeheartedly with the use of autotune. I've seen so many different live streams lately , and painful is the exact word I would use to describe the vocals. So incredibly distracting.
I’m seriously so glad to know that I’m not alone, in regards to views on DAWS, Pro Tools, and Auto Tune. *** 💡💡💡 I would be interested in hearing more about NOT using master bus processing. When I don’t use it, the low end always feels out of control and the mix overall feels too “sloppy” and all over the place. Adding compression to the master bus seems to help a lot for the way I currently mix. Any teaching or insight would be welcome! 😊
Given the price of Reaper ($60 for a non-profit license), I don't understand why he would suggest Logic as the most accessible DAW given it's more than double the cost of Reaper and only runs on Apple's OS. NM maybe he meant "to use my template."
So good you guys...Question; so am I understanding correctly that the only way to mix live "in the box" is to make full use of the computer's cpu using the highest buffer settings in the DAW? We have a scenario right now where are video is ending up in an atem mini pro with a lot less latency that our audio. I there a way to delay video to match 30ms delay in the DAW? Thanks guys.
I usually change the key to each song. Ill have to duplicate the audio track, cut the vocals to that track, and then just change the key in the autotune plug in slot.
Churchfront, I want to get Luke’s template, but I’m not getting it because I need help setting it up. I have a A&H Qu32 and don’t know how to set it up with the A&H
Interesting info...but the "everything stereo" take is perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever heard from another sound pro. The "we have two ears" nonsense was a sorry reason, maybe even worse than the take itself.
Auto tune - lies to audience... keeps in line with the entire church message... got it. BTW the gobs of gear used in that facility is entirely a gross mis-use of funds... but keep telling yourself its “needed”... 24 nexo top boxes... go away.... ross video switcher...the console behind you used for the pre-amps 🙄
ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SOUND ENGINEER IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC
I’m loving these interviews! Thanks Churchfront!
“Create art that unlocks the heart!” Wow, so powerful! Love this guys, so much gold here!

One of the best and most important videos to watch right now, this is Gold guys
1) Autotune vocals
2) Audience mics
3) Stop master bus compression
4) Stop mono. Real world is stereo, stick to stereo
5) Have worship team listen to themselves (what they did good and bad). This is the best teacher.
You are welcome.
Does he auto tune the room mics as well? I could see that being an issue
@@benpossehl I doubt it. That would sound like a warbly mess lol ;)

Sounds like you’ve watched his other master classes too
I would love to see more of these with like elevation, hillsong and the like
Luke and Jake are great mentors to our 2020 worship leaders generation.
Fo sho :)

These interviews have been very beneficial to me. Thank you!!🙏🏽
Awesome question and responses! Learned a bunch just from this video. Thanks!
Very helpful.
This has been the most awesome informative full of new info and gear video I have seen in ages
I am inspired by this mixing engineer this excellent experience. 🎚🎚🔉🔉
You can use 2 or more interfaces in pro tools by creating an aggregate i/o
Tips number 5 is the best !
#5 is good stuff
Awesome Interview!!!!!! Love the tips to improve your mix as well! Keep em coming! I'm still waiting on part 2 of the Belonging Co. Production Tour!

excellent Luke!
RAVEN MTI 2 is a good obtion for mixing live broadcast, I have it is cheap
and works perfect for this application!
33:57 forward saved me money 💰
Thanks!!! Blessings
Great tips, love the Bethel broadcasts, they sound amazing.
Great interview! Thanks alot!

This is awesome!!!!!
Love it
thanks!
Can we have a tutorial on plugin latency compensation?
This was incredibly helpful!!!!!
“Rather have a stable product than the latest and greatest” 💯🤝👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks. Great interview. Could you please explain deep how do you control the latency, I mean how do you match with the video streaming? 👍🏻
yes i am also interested in this
Audio/Video delay units, or within your streaming software.
Same

I believe you can get around it by applying the slightest gain reduction (max 1 db on the highest points). Hope it helps! God bless you
Instead you can try as master EQ and take away around the 200 frequency because that’s where the bass and other low en instruments build up
Update: Protools 2021.6 allows core audio 64 channels simultaneous input monitoring.
No need to buy HD hardware 🙌

NM maybe he meant "to use my template."
Logic is one of the easiest to learn and comes with plenty of decent stock plugins and Effects.
Hi guys,
I want to ask if you have in the Logic Pro templete backup choir too?
Master Bus compressor is just for glue really, he uses a limiter which essentially is a super compressor that’s brickwallin peaks
Mans just dissed FL like that at the end 🤣

If your using OBS you can configure the delay for video. That's what we do.
How does Pro Tools HDX processing effect latency and buffer combinations?
Run everything in stereo, even bass guitar?
How do you tune vocals? Autotune set to chromatic or do you each key to change with each song?
I usually change the key to each song. Ill have to duplicate the audio track, cut the vocals to that track, and then just change the key in the autotune plug in slot.
I mix on a digico s31 which is all screens with a row of faders lol
The template for live broadcasting can run in windows 10?
Run Stereo!!! YESSSSSSSS!!!!! LOL
what about Cubase?
How do you deal with snapshots in a DAW?
Just found out that in ProTools it's very easy by using groups.
when will we see that template with no external plugins?!
Soon! We are in final stages of getting it ready, Im the co-founder of Production online :-)
Isaac Meyer do we have a price range yet so i can start convincing admins haha😂
What the heck I thought that was Nick Staley the keys player for Bethel lol
Loved this interview, feel like I was in the room with you guys discussing this stuff :) Love from Malta, Thank you Jesus for Sound!
Churchfront, I want to get Luke’s template, but I’m not getting it because I need help setting it up. I have a A&H Qu32 and don’t know how to set it up with the A&H
Did you figure it out? 60 days should be enough ay
Fonque Abbey yes, we’re up and running 👍🏼
Hi brother, mind to share the template?
Auto tune is a must. No heat here
what is the waves servers being mentioned ? any link?
Google Waves Soundgrid servers.
Mark(us), Luke and John? Bet their Dad's name is Matthew.
Dads name is Mark.. :-)
20:30 ... autotune your lead vocal
34:00 Logic Pro for Apple, $199
Logic Pro is free for 90 days during this pandemic
“I feel bad about video guys, they have a much harder position” 😂😂
“Audio is easy, video is hard”
I agree with this statement 100%. God Bless the video people lol
Such knowledge wasted at bethel, great vid though!
