Calling in a false bomb threat is more than just filing a false report these days. That mom probably runs the risk of being brought up on terrorism charges.

Back in 1999 some idiots in my high school kept calling in fake bomb threats. As soon as it was discovered which idiots did it they were arrested and sent away for quite some time. Even before 9/11 it was a big deal.

@@empressmarowynn For those of you historically challenged, terrorist bombings associated with planes and otherwise, have been a thing since the sixties. We old people remember the NRA (Irish), the airplane hijackings that were rampant, the Munich massacre at the Olympics in 1972, and many more, including the domestic terrorist attack in Oklahoma City. Our tour group was removed from an airplane in Rome 1973, three days before the Yom Kippur War, because we were coming from Egypt, and we were all physically searched.
9-11 was definitely not the start of anything, just one of the more dramatic terrorist attacks.

@@Kayenne54 As a good start, but I also think OP has an excellent case for damages, especially since they were accused of a very serious terrorism related act, it could have been an act of murder, in effect. Were I OP, I'd not be posting anonymously on Reddit, but stirring such a huge and loud public fuss about it that the authorities would have no choice but to utterly destroy the mother. After all, OP can still not blame the authorities for doing their job; praise their speed, but still point out that, understandably, she could have been killed by them should they have misinterpreted her actions when surprised. It would ensure the harshest of charges and, with this, no-one sane would support the mother, and it would open up the opportunity to take every last penny left after the mother has fought her prosecutions.

So I don't think the Mum was at fault, it sounds like her doctor didn't warn her how strong the medication was. The story about the two wonderful little boys on the plane reminded me of an experience I had years ago on an Amtrak train trip. I don't know if it still works the same way, but back then in a dining car, you were randomly seated with other people until all the seats were filled. That meant that as a solo traveler, I would be having my dinner with three strangers. This time, my dining companions were a woman who looked to be around 70, and two boys who said they were 8 and 10. They said their parents wanted to have a "just mom and dad" dinner, so they sent the kids along to fend for themselves (NOT the best parenting decision I've ever heard, but what can you do?). I admit at that point, my expectations were pretty low, and I was braced for trouble in the form of Other People's Children. But having dinner with those three strangers turned out to be a delightful experience! The little boys were real charmers - bright as buttons, excited about their trip, GREAT manners, chatty without being obnoxious, able to hold up their end of casual conversation - really, just a joy to spend the time with! I remember thinking that if I were their Mom, I'd have been beyond proud of them! When we were all done, the other lady and I made a fuss over what fine gentlemen they were to dine with, and thanked them for the very nice time. They both blushed and giggled, piped their own "thank you!", and went on their way. I hope my three dining companions all remembered that experience as fondly as I have :)

Also reminds me of MANY many years ago, I had my first serious girlfriend and my brother had a serious girlfriend (now his wife/my SIL). We never celebrated or even acknowledged Thanksgiving at our house, it was simply a day off. But THIS year my Jewish SIL was all excited to celebrate Thanksgiving - I'm not sure if she ever caught on we had never observed before - and the family made plans. One problem: They never told me, somehow assuming I'd psychically know that we'd be doing something for the first time ever. Meanwhile my then-girlfriend regularly did things every year and wanted me to come, and as I didn't have any conflict I happily accepted the invitation. Middle of dinner I get a call "Are you running late? When are you getting here?", I replied "???? I'm not coming, I have plans tonight, thanksgiving with my girlfriend's family, really sure I told you". They had the gall to be surprised I wasn't coming to something they never bothered to tell me about! Versus plans I was ACTUALLY invited to! (SIL's interest in Thanksgiving and such I all learned after the fact).

Story 4: It was a welcome change of pace to see that the kids were actually really sweet and simply hyperactive at the airport as kids tend to be. And that husband is definitely sleeping on the couch when they get home

I would never leave my child with someone I do not know, no matter where we are.

The first story: forget entitled, that mom is freaking sociopathic bordering on psychopathic. Also, low contact doesn't seem like it would be good enough. No contact and restraining order.

"Or we could just come over and take your stuff."
In Montana that's a good way to get yourself shot on general principles and the cops here know that ;^D I LUV'D OP's response!

Dude...that Thanksgiving mom could've gotten her daughter KILLED by telling the cops she had a bomb!! Omgosh...I hope she gets convicted criminally AND her daughter should sue the crap outta her

Not that the mother would have cared about that as long as she got her way. Thank the Lord the grown child is safe.

Ok, so that last story, those kids sound great!
They didn't have to ensure there was a bottle of water and a pack of cookies waiting for OP to wake up, so good for them!!!!

I would not have anything to do with my mom after she did that to me. I would file a restraining order against her, and change my phone number

The entitled mom in the 1st story had the mindset of "I'm going to make a false police report and have you arrested because you didn't jump when I said jump."

Some of these people are crazier than others. I know I would never leave my kid with strangers. Also the mom that sent the cops on her own kid just baffles me

Firs OP should get a restraining order, go no contact and if possible change address. Swatting anyone is crazy, but your own child for not attending thanksgiving? OP was cooking, you don't want to imagine what could have happened if he still held a big kitchen knife when they stormed in.
