Ring story - when my friend got engaged and married she and her husband did not have a lot of money, so her engagement and wedding rings were very basic. Years later they were both making good money, in fact the husband was making great money and he really wanted to upgrade her rings to show how much he loved her but she would have none of it. The sentimental value of her original rings made them priceless.

My Nans wedding ring (RIP), which my dad still has, is a copper ring with a steel inlay where the ring touched the skin (so the copper doesn't stain the skin). This was because my Nan was born in 1913, She was a Cockney and the working class lived in the kind of poverty that we would expect of a third world country back then. She never got it replaced, even when they had the money later in life, because it was a reminder of how far they came.

Fortunately, I live in an area where it is rare to see people driving like total idiots. That being said, there is a major interstate nearby where out of staters seem to think that there is no speed limit. Despite that, however, we, for the most part, don't see very many bad crashes, but there are a few. Being retired from the trucking business, I'm no longer in a tearing rush to get anywhere, so I keep right except to pass for the most part, but I still run dashcams front and rear in my vehicles, because you never know when some screwloose idiot will get you in their sights, intentional or not. and as we see on here constantly, people will lie in a heartbeat to deflect blame for their own stupidity in a crash, so you really need to cyoa..

One thing I always tell my kids when they have something better than me? Whether it be a nicer house, car, etc? Is congratulations and/or, well done! As a parent, you should be happy and very proud that your kids outshine....YOU!
Why? Because it shows/reflects on you as a parent, that you have brought your kids up to be independent and self sufficient. Yes, you may have aided with their educational expenses. And yes, you may have helped them with financing their first car, which may have been a beater, etc, etc. My point is that if your kids have become more "successful" than you? Then your hard work and dedication paid off for the behalf of your child/children. Being envious/jealous of your child's success is just nonsense. You may have paid the money, but your child obviously did the work, to come out on top. Take pride in your kids success. Continue to be a positive influence in their success. Your children will repay their respect towards you later, as you age. Remember! What goes around comes around! My daughter outshines me two to one, and I could not be any prouder than I already am, and will continue to be. Just my opinion, but I am sticking to it!
    Respect!

Just getting out of a relationship with someone like her ex husband would've made anyone be a lot more careful about who they date/marry in the future. Also she literally believed some dude she had just met over her son that she'd been raising for years. After years of raising him she should know what kind of person her son is and that would instantly tell her that something wasn't adding up. Also a normal parent would've confronted their kid about the issue rather than just believe what someone else said.

@@WobblesandBean I agree with the apology meaning nothing. My own mother has had two boyfriends that have basically used their mistreatment of me as their "in" for the relationship. The first directed attention away from his own laziness and unwillingness to do anything by making her think I'm lazy and don't want to help out (ended up being a self-fulfilling prophecy since after that she'd go off the handle about me being lazy and not helping whenever I forgot something while recovering from a mental breakdown, so I just got into this "why bother at all" mentality) and was physically and mentally abusive, but she didn't care until he turned the abuse on her. The second saw the rift the first one made between us and decided the best way to get into her good graces was to mock and ridicule any problems or issues I was struggling with as "jokes" that she'd laugh at and defend if I tried to put my foot down.
Both of them are out of her life... Because of things they did to her or didn't do for her. She's never apologized, but she'll occasionally cry whenever her attempts to guilt me into things end up showing that I don't care for what she says or thinks anymore or how low my opinion of her is. People like her and the OP's mom only care so much as it impacts them and you can see it in how they react to the slip ups. The OP's mom probably only kicked the boyfriend out because she realized that her boyfriend was as abusive as her ex and, possibly, realized that it was only a matter of time before he turned that abuse on her.

The Moms Crappy Bf story: the disrespectful acts in this story reminds me of my own story.
So I work for an after-school program where there's is there older lady that works there as well. She has a really bad habit of trying to get people to respect her by using her age as an influence but then will say she's not doing that when it's very clear that she is. So when we ate in the building she will stop kids in the hallway or leaving the classroom/entering the classroom if they don't speak to her but she didn't say a word to them. If you are having a conversation she will cut you off to say her piece when you were still speaking. She does this so often that one day when I was on a zoom call for work she did it and my response was "You couldn't have fucking waited." I said it as clear as day with no hesitation. There were still people on but no one but her heard me. She tried to get all fake huffy and sucked her teeth and scoffed. She's one of those people that will ramble on the zoom meetings about nothing so when she gets muted or we end zoom calls cause we have another meeting DIRECTLY AFTER(1 min grace period) she will try and get meetings over it. If you don't answer her no matter what the reason she will call you out on it like your a child or beneath her in some way. If you don't show remorse or try and talk back she'll give you the silent treatment then try and be nice to you cause she wants something.
Guys when I say the amount of times I have reported her behavior towards not just myself but the kids. The fact that there are several group text specific to talking crap about her (managers, staff, staff and managers have them). It's unbelievable. She even kicks kids out of classrooms for having to go to the bathroom more than once in a hour because it's disrespectful to her lesson. 😒😒😒😒

Let's make DarkFluff become a Drill Sargeant.... Worked for Ross, so might give Fluff that extra point.

Retired doctor, worked a downtown ER for several years. I can totally believe the apple juice story.

I learned to get a dash cam the hard way, after being struck by a road rage driver in 2016, who then fled the scene and still blamed the accident on me. It took 4 years and a huge lawsuit to win my case, but now I have a dash cam in all my vehicles now, for this very reason.

Too many people "respect your elders" only means use the correct set of manners with them, not the manners you use with your peers. You not the same meaning of Earned (high) respect

With the second story with the entitled step dad I had one just like ops but I had the perfect counter to the argument about respect "respect is earned not given"

Second Story: I laughed so hard at that Karen calling the MVI as apple juice. Karen, let the nurses do their job and shut up!

Weirdest dashcam footage was a drunk driver crashing his lada, grabbed his briefcase and ambled away from the carnage.
It looked like a really serious crash too as the driver's side was obliterated

Last story.... I watch a lot of Dash Cam videos on YT. I have a dash cam in my own vehicle, luckily haven't been in or witnessed any accident yet. Glad OP had that witness to back him up.

No-one should say that yelling at a Doctor is 'Understandable' - Nothing get's solved when you cause conflict. Be calm and clear and you may actually end up helping the situation instead of hindering it. NEVER accept that people have ANY right to yell at you for ANY reason. You aren't in the military.

I JUST left a European Restaurant and ordered some food. As I was leaving, I thought of getting a Lamb sandwich, then a notification of this video came up.

Story 2: The moment Karen disturbed other patients is the moment that Security needed to escort her from the building. She was belligerent and uncooperative with OP, and the fact she’d been badgering the staff for at least three days overshadowed being a concerned parent.

Last story - Denial is a confusing thing. I watched a vid of someone fly up a tow trucks bed at an accident site (dozen cops lights going) dukes of hazard style, flip the car destroying it, and the driver get dragged out of a scrap steel remains of a car almost unscathed screaming "WHAT DID I DO!? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME!? LET ME GO!"

That last story is exactly why you need a dashcam, that karen and kevin would have shed no tears screwing over OP for her own stupidity. The second they tried to acuse OP of being drunk when he called their b.s., that's the big red flag that shenanigans are gonna happen.
The fact the husband did show up and would've tried to threaten him is one of the big reasons I hate dealing with lawyers outside their office, they always try to screw people over, them and real estate agents. Both of those people always try to screw whoever they can when they get the chance.

I was giving a patient IV Pepcid. The patient asked what I was giving her so I said, “It’s Pepcid that goes into your vein.” The lady then huffed and said angrily, “I don’t want no ‘Petsi.’ I only drinks coca cola!”

First story, mom has issues! Never heard of this level of insanity on the second story. I did however hear about a paramedic who had an operation pour his apple juice into a container for a urine sample. They told him if he did go on his own soon they would put in a catheter so he bought some time with the apple juice. Nurse took it and said it looked funny but we will test it anyway. They came back later telling him they figured out what he had done but by then he had gone on his own so he didn't need their tube.

That mom owes OP so much for not believing him about the douche hole boyfriend. I think she has a lot of making things right owed to her son for that kind of treatment she did

I've been there... On the mom's side. I'd bet money she was poised to pounce on it as soon as the boyfriend showed her his true self. I was. I'm still trying to make it up to my kids, but they say they understand that I was doing the best I knew how at the time. I'm much smarter now! 😱😓
