I wouldn't have just called the police, if my parents sold a car I loaned them and was still paying off. I would call the bank, or where ever I got the car loan from and told them. Saying they were in an accident, stole the insurance money, they then sold the car without my consent and that my parent had stolen the money. You may get into some slight legal trouble, I would have gotten a lawyer WAY before I did anything, but the thieving parent would be in far more legal trouble for stealing a car "technically" still owned by the bank.

I’ll admit that my dark side seriously considered (before calmer thoughts and common sense kicked in) retorting to the “dog must be destroyed because he scares & upsets my child” with a counter statement of “child must be destroyed because he scares & upsets my dog.” I think I could eventually be satisfied with the kid being managed by leash law - once he passes the obligatory leash training lessons, so long as his vaccinations are kept up to date. I would hope that the ridiculousness of these comments would slap EM with a reality cocktail, but it’s never that easy, is it?
Side note, I find the term “destroyed” when speaking about euthanasia an awful word choice…unless you are referring to the families that have to live that reality. I’m sure if OP & the family had to put the dog down for defending its own turf and a bite that didn’t break skin they would have been absolutely destroyed.
(It’s 2 am and I’m on some prescription pain meds after a nasty fall. This all made sense in my head when I started to type it just before midnight. Hope it still does! )

When I was an assistant manager at a certain craft and fabric place (some may know) I did have a hearing impaired employee. She was always awesome and was great with the customers despite not being able to read lips. She always had a piece of paper on hand and I had extra I set aside for her at the cutting counter as she usually worked there since she was a fashion student.
Luckily, a lot of the time when I would hear people trying to get her attention, I'd be able to either tell them I'd be right with them, or go and help them if I wasn't with anyone. Almost everyone was understanding, but I did have a few comments of "why would you hire someone like that if she can't communicate with your customers!?" I never apologized and would just flat out tell people that she was a great employee and most of the regulars loved her. She would go above and beyond to help people. Still miss working with her to this day.
Blows my mind that people think that just because of some disabilities, people shouldn't be able to work retail/customer service.

As a retired cop from Missouri, I can say, at least here if you tried selling someone else's car for an unreasonably low amount and kept the cash, the buyer could be charged with possession of stolen property, since they should have known the value of the vehicle was such that the purchase price was low balled for a reason, specifically because it was a hot item. Then there's dad, at least larceny ("stealing" in Missouri) for not giving the money to the actual owner, and then auto theft for deceitful use of the vehicle.

    • @Dove01s
      @Dove01s 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, that's a thing that really worried me about that story. Since the car owner was unwilling to call the police on their entitled thief of a father, the possibly unwitting buyer may have had their life upended and possibly ruined. I don't believe for a moment that there weren't further repercussions to others because of this and the OP did not act to contain the damage. It's upsetting. I don't know enough about law to know if it would make him an accessory after the fact to the theft of his own car, but I do feel it makes him partly culpable in whatever happened to the buyer... which I can't imagine was anything good.

As for my dad's car, he found out it'd been sold to a broke single mom, so he sued for the money and let the lady keep the car. I told her "Ma'am, you have WAY more than 12 items & you'll have to check out at another till"...I was polite & smiling. She went from ignoring me to SCREAMING IN MY FACE, all because there was 1 customer ahead of her, at the other 3 open checkouts...
My manager came over, told her the same thing & made it clear that she will have to move her items, stop shouting verbal abuse, or leave. She continued, my manager called the police & she was DRAGGED out in handcuffs...

I fell in love with this car. I spent over $3000 in 1985 on engine upgrades, and a nitrus set up. I was in my senior year of high school, and return from school one day to find my car missing. There’s gray area here because of her theft, but contrary to popular belief, “my house, my rules” is not a legal thing. (If not for the theft) OP would have actually been assaulting and breaking and entering, even though it’s his property and even though she isn’t paying rent, it’s been established as her place of residence and thus she has protection just like a normal tenant/landlord relationship. Details vary by state, but OP would have to go through a normal eviction process.
Not going to spend extra time re-researching the topic in the case of the theft, but OP could’ve likely gotten into legal trouble by retrieving their property in the way that they did. That being said, since mom did steal from him, all it would take is one call to the police and they would arrest her and OP could easily get a TRO and immediately evict her (rather than having to petition the court and put 30-60 day notice up, like a normal eviction.)
Be careful who you let stay with you, even if it’s for free, as they gain tenants rights after not too long (as short as a few weeks, especially if they have a key, have moved in property, and/or started receiving mail there). And don’t *EVER* try to do what’s known as a “self-help eviction”, it won’t go well for you. Look up your legal rights and obligations as a *landlord*, follow the law perfectly, and never make threats such as “if you don’t do x, y, z, I’ll throw you out right now!” nor enter their “private” part of the domicile (whether it’s just a room, or separate part of the house) without their permission...or you’ll end up liable for trespassing, B&E, harassment, and/or assault.

Well a toddler harness at least.
Now I admit growing up it was normal for kids to cut through yards comeing and going to friends places. It least in my social group we respectful not damage things while passin though. We didn't need to climb fences to do so though.
And I would regualy snack from a plumb tree that wasn't technically ours but was in a field behind our property that we had some type of useage agree for, as we kept a pet goat in, and on occation my sisters' hources would temparly stay in. (the normally stayed at the pony club on the other side of town)
So the attitude of the OP willing to give the fruit to playing eighbourhood kid as a snack is understandable to me. Givenmthere was professtional orcharch next to girl guide's den us kids did have a concept that not all fruit trees were fair game

With regard to the woman who backed her car into the grocery store, she had her umbrella open inside the store. Having an open umbrella inside is bad luck. Lookout karma!

If my parents sold my property like that, I'd definitely call the cops on them for selling my property, plus have them arrest the guy who bought my property because he bought stolen property.

I have ADD, and sometimes I get "locked" in my own head, meaning I am so focused on my task, that nothing else exists. I am also a bit hard of hearing on one side, so when I'm surrounded by rather loud noises, it makes it hard for me to answer the phones and interact with customers.

8:24 well I used to work for a Kroger, one day as I was gathering carts I see a car parked right next to the entrance, she looked like she wanted to hurt someone, I had to relieve myself and by the time I got back outside there was a police car as well and the same woman getting shoved in the back

#1 I would have called the police for the stolen car and have that «father» prosecuted for selling stolen property. I'd have him forced to pay back the FULL replacement price for a new car.
#4 OP absolutely NEED to KICK her entitled and toxic mom OUT ASAP !

If my dad had wrecked then sold my car I'd of had him sitting in jail and a lawyer selling off his assets before he could wind up a single insult, give an inch and they'll take a mile.

The first story is insane. The OP is crazy for not getting the police involved. He’s still on the hook for the amount owed to the lien holder. Unless they were buying it for parts or to use in an illegal car theft ring, they’d care about having spent thousands on a car that they can’t get a tag, title, registration, or insurance for. Not to mention that since the car would still belong to the OP legally, he’d be on the hook if anyone got in an accident and hurt someone while driving the car. Something’s off. Either this is a fake story or the OP is a massive wimp for letting this happen to him and then INVITING his parents to his wedding. They refused to go, so that means that he asked them.
