Doc stains the new wood fence with stain using an airless sprayer. Staining a fence is hard work, but not that hard to do if you understand a little of the science behind the wood and the stain.

It is early May 2023… You did a great job providing everyone the information critical to staining their fence 👏
Going over the myth on wait time was a great addition….
Covering moisture content was great 👍
Covering water based, oil based, hybrid…. Very nice
Again… I am pleased to see someone taking the time to explain the process to todays standards

Me and my wife just got done re-staining our fence, and used a roller and brush, and let me tell you I'll never make that mistake again... It looks good, but with both of us working on it we spent 20 hours. All in, it only cost us about $200 in supplies but man was it a ton of work.

Doc It has been almost one year since you posted this. So glad you did. Can you do a review on how it weathered in 12 months. I just did my fence (Cedar, installed last November) It was not hard but it takes it out of you. I can relate to how you felt. Hoping I dont have to do this again for a while.

Hi Doc, I watch all your videos even though I live in southern Canada and don’t have your conditions. I have a section of fence that I originally stained in opaque black and I’d like to change to brown. It’s about 8 urs old and the stain is failing in spots. What do you recommend, stripping with power washer or staining over and will a brown opaque stain cover? Thanks for any thoughts.

Can u briefly explain the priming with water in the sprayer. Is this done to dilute the stain to make it sprayable. Does it auto mix water and stain to make it sprayable. I have a little bit of lattice to stain a solid color and have been trying to use a spray bottle. The stain is to thick it clogs. When i have diluted it with water it works but has obviously taken multiple coats can see a difference but is turning out. Thanks

The double board fence is real neighbor friendly but I see you have stringers that you begin with and those are on the back side (the neighbor side) is there another assembly option that you might have used in sections where it counts or were you lucky and looks are good all around for the neighbor. when you are nailing/screwing your board and water is coming from the hole you should not stain! It’s like building a deck.. if it’s wet slam it tight, if it’s dry put nail in between.. if you don’t see water coming from the screw hole stain it! If you do see water wait!! This is coming from someone who has done decks and fences!! After you pressure wash give it 48 hours of no rain to stain
