    As former owner of Vin 6406, it pains me to see this car in such a state. Headliner falling apart, doors not being supported properly. I can't believe that they cut through the trunk structure to install the fuel pump! Glad to hear that it is going to DMC Texas to get restored.

    From what I remember the DMC ran a basic mechanical fuel injection system - the fuel distribution pump is exactly like an ignition distributor with a rotating assembly that pushes fuel through the respective fuel tubes that go to each cylinder. Very common for those to have some big issues as far as functioning correctly.

      Looks like a version of Bosch CIS. Probably jetronic, or CIS-E basic. There was many different versions... L, K- jet, etc. Fuel dizzy, high pressure injectors. The air flow metering plate is what he was pushing up on calling it a carb. Audi 5000's used one of the largest highest flowing version of the plate and also the biggest bore throttle body of the vw/ audi cars. They could be swapped to gain more oomph to a lot of cars. Tons of European cars use variants of the CIS setup. The majority of people that say they're problematic or hard to work on have little to no experience with CIS. Really not a whole lot to them. The airflow plate assembly usually has a mixture screw to adjust the cO with a 3mm allen wrench if I remember correctly, but you should really use a gas analyzer and just leave the screw alone. Like I said, CIS basic is pretty simple. I got my first dose of CIS on an mk1 vw rabbit, scirocco, audi 4000, etc Then CIS evolved to motronic and could produce more power due to a different sized butterfly, air flow plate, larger fuel distributor, and dpr. I had a fully built 9A 2.0l 16v Passat with the motronic setup. Car was fast as hell and revved to around 8,500 rpms. The air flow plate is really the only limiting factor vs a hot-film blow through MAF. You'll find CIS on everything from vw/audi/ porsche, to bmw, mercedes, etc. Its actually kind of funny to see someone that's never seen a CIS car to scratch they're head and say "what is that?" Lol If you were around in the 80's and turned wrenches on anything from Europe you most likely were working on a car that had CIS fuel injection. Robert Bosch actually has a great tuning and repair manual for CIS that can explain things easily for people to understand better.

    Whenever a fuel cap looks like that, the gas is like molasses, or better yet varnish. You can scrape it with a putty knife. I've dealt with that unfortunate situation. Should have ran a fuel line straight to the 5 gallons of gas and bypass the tank

    • @qumefox
      @qumefox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is bosch k-jet your dealing with in this case. Just bypassing the fuel tank isn't going to matter because the fuel distributor and injectors are going to look exactly like the tank. And while the injectors can SOMETIMES be cleaned, the fuel distributor is normally a lost cause and requires replacement. Getting a delorean running that doesn't due to liquored gas is generally a several thousand dollar affair.

That's a Bosch K/KE jetronic fuel injection system If I'm correct, and that thing you pushed down is a fuel metering plate (measures how much fuel it needs to inject into each cylinder), if you touch that whilst the car is running that will stop the engine running. Mercedes-Benz's of the 1980's had this same system on their cars. This taking place somewhere in Florida, there was a episode of the show hoarders on that showed a woman in Florida and the story this owner tells in video, sounds familiar to what the woman said. As the hoarders team cleaned the house and the yard, this car was shown. Glad the new owner wants to restore it, but whomever the mechanic was he took it to, that so called mechanic cut a hole in the floor of the storage compartment to change fuel pump. I bet when he cut the floor, he cut a few wires. Good luck to them to get as far as they did trying to start it.

    There is an ls swapped DeLorean already. And its either carbureted or fuel injected, not both. Some fuel injection setups look like carb setups but are still fuel injection. For example, the old chevys that went to throttle body injection (TBI) look similar to a carburetor setup but they're very different

    If a vehicle been sitting for a while and the oil “looks good” it still won’t be as good. All the sediments and sludge after years go to the bottom of the oil pan. The dipstick doesn’t touch bottom, so when you crank it over now you’re entire engine will be full of gunk.

      I guess you've never heard of an oil filter? Plus every pickup tube I've seen has a screen in it to prevent large material from entering it. Dirt and smaller items will get trapped in the oil filter before it circulates throughout an engine.

    PRV V6 motor was supposed to be built as a V8 but was later shortened to only 6 because of the oil crisis. It keeps the V8 configuration with a 90 degree cam angle instead of the normal 60 degrees that V6's were based around the time. Almost a million of those engines were produced for several different cars, and you can still find some spare parts for it here in Sweden.
