    Thanks for sharing Bruce i have 1982 Silver Eagle Bus i found in the back woods, 8V71 Detroit in her. The old girl started with a little work, then put it in gear and she rolled. I brought it home and love it. Me and the wife put it all together made it a motor home. Thanks again for sharing i love old big truck and you got it started.

    This is one of them old diesels I'd be thrilled to purchase! No oil or fuel leaks, good rear air ride suspension, seems to build proper air pressure, lights and ignition and gages work right!! I'd take it any day!

    Boy that old Freightliner sure brings back a few memories I drove a 1987 FLC with a Cummins 444 and 13 Speed Rd. ranger in it it had that big flat steering wheel that even with power steering you could break your knuckles across the top of the dash or hit the a pillar if you were not careful the truck was the roughest riding truck I ever drove 30 years later my eyeballs are still bouncing around in my head hence the term freight shaker

  • @jimpatterson5700
    @jimpatterson5700 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My 1980 FLC was off the road 16 years and was in sad shape. Mice ate wiring and filled heater box with massive nest, headliner had one 2 ft. in diameter! But it ran and had good oil pressure. I fixed it up the truck and started trucking with it. 6 years I have ran the old girl and she has provided for me and the family. Them old rigs have alot left in them if you just put a little time. Im Never selling mine. Old FLCs are my favorite trucks.

    Just found this vid. That is a super sweet Freight! Holy crap, after all those years sitting, and that motor starts & runs solid! That’s a damn good truck, just needs a healthy heap full of TLC. Man I hope someone gives that thing a good home. What a waste if that gets scrapped. I’m up in Minnesota, no way can I get it. I love early 80s FLCs.....

    Brake pads are most likely frozen to the drum from moisture. Build air and tap the shoes. They should break free. Peterbilt headlights, Kenworth seats in a Freightliner aka Freight shaker. The combination is commonly known amongst old timers as a Peter Worth Shakin.

If they don’t like it don’t watch it! You never say that they are are a “how too” video! I watch them all if I agree with how you’ve done something or not it’s all great content. Keep them coming.

    Man IDC what anyone says I love freightliners! I have always buad great luck with them using them I'm the woods and that was some of the toughest work I have seen done using semis and never once had a problem. They also generally make great power! I had an XL classic with dual turbos and I could barely keep up with it using a cclb Chevy 3500 and the truck was loaded pulling a skidder too! When it was uploaded she would cream down the roads. My favorite model definitely has to be the XL classic day cab but unfortunately the only problem I have with that model is the cabs just to small as quite a tall guy I could never drive one comfortably without changing the seat out, do you have any Western stars down south? I would love to seen a will it start to see how they hold up over time! I live the reliability of the Western stars but god damn they barely make enough power to move them self's around without putting a proper size turbskee on them but I'll be damned they have the best sounding exhaust brakes especially for being a old Detroit

    I have a 2014 Pete 367 with a 550/2050 Cummins with an Eaton 18 speed and while I LOVE my truck, I miss the old 500 Cats and the 2 stroke Detroits. I love Cummins too and have family that work for them, but it's hard to beat the old 2 stroke Detroits.

    Also, that Freightliner is not even close to the Smokey and the Bandit truck... the Snowman's truck is a 1974 Kenworth w900a with either a DD, Cummins, or Caterpillar.

    • @BIGWHIT76
      @BIGWHIT76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They had a couple different trucks in the Smokey and bandit movie. I believe the snowman’s truck was three or four trucks made to look the same.

      Smokey and the Bandit #1 used 4 Kenworth W900A's. A ''73, '74, '75 and a '76. In Smokey and the Bandit #2 they used a 1980 GMC General. I could not find a good source of how many was used, I'm guessing a few.

    • @goodrichfarms8795
      @goodrichfarms8795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lilbatista11492 Yes they had an 50th anniversary edition kw, it was awesome (Which is a neat game to play with friends to try and see who can find the golden emblem in the rig scenes)! No, not all had Cummins engines, different scenes with the truck have sometimes different sounds... The start of the movie as the rig starts and runs, is a different sound from when Snowman pulls into the 76 for a little go-go juice and to put some groceries down his neck...

Nice truck , had a buddy that worked at Freightliner, I was driving the Transtar then, I sat in a Freightliner conventional similar to that and hoped my company would buy me one. Never happened....LOL It would be rare to have one of these restored properly, don't see any these days. Everyone wants a Peterbilt.
