I've got a Johnson 2HG dumper with the same engine. There are two fuel filters, the obvious one and one in the bottom of the tank. Your understanding of the cold start is correct.
Try the cheapest thing first. Rebuild the pump and the injector. At this point, clean the tank and filter, so you start with a fresh fuel system. Love your find Muck, you found a gem in the rough there.
Repair It’s a pretty straight example to let it go to the scrap pile to make razor blades. I would like to see it repaired. I would also like to see rebuilding the injection pump instead of installing a reman. Thanks for the Videos, Kurt. Glad to see you survived you time in Pennsylvania with Matt and the crazy one legged Canadian.
Repair - first machine I was allowed free reign on which we got free from a neighbour and encountered the same issues as you. Taught me a lot and hopefully repairing it will teach others too
My grandfather had one for work around the estate. He kept it in a meticulous condition. Draining the fuel at the end of the season and running it dry. Regular servicing and replacing wear parts. It was practically like new when he passed away. My uncle took over and ran it to the ground.... It was frustrating.
Hey Lord Muck Please Repair That Little Dumper Don’t Cut It Up Its Worth Every Penny What Ever You Spend On It, Looking At It Even The Paint Looks Original You’re Right In What You Say I Don’t Think That’s It’s Been Any Where Near A Building Site Maybe A School or College On Ground Maintenance, Anyway I’m Looking Forward To The Next Episode 👍🏻🇬🇧 Repair Repair Repair 🙏🏻
Definitely one to repair and restore! I used to watch the builders using these Dumpers build the estate behind my house in 1965 and then go an play on them when they went home of an evening! 😎
Good to be back , You got a very tidy little dumper and I think it is worth saving . I wish you all the best mucker and looking forward to your next video.
On leaving school in 1960 the Thwaites was the first thing I properly drove, as a chippies laborer I made up wooden spacer blocks for precast tunnel lining segments. A load of which had to be delivered to the production line just after 7am each morning. Hence the dumper that was kept in the shed overnight and easily started with a few swings each morning. I delivered the blocks and then would tour the site to give other plant a tow start. Later another dumper was delivered and the newly appointed driver thought he would help me out, it was great fun to watch him tow a concrete mixer around the yard and wondering why it would not bump start.
Repair. That’s a nice clean example and worth putting a few quid into it to get it running. If you do get it running and just service it and sell it on, I believe you could clear a profit on it. A useful tool. Loved the Petter diesels, I was very fortunate to meet Sir Richard Lister of Lister Petter back in the late 80s. A great heritage of British Engineering. 🏴🇺🇸
That's a unique piece. It could be handy for all sorts of odd jobs. I don't know how popular these are. This is the first one I've ever seen. I'd carry on. I believe some one would want it.
Nice dumper . Repair it . Easy job, parts available. Done lots of these over the years. The company I worked for had over 100 dumpers of all types in the fleet. Found a dumper for a friend recently . We had Benfords, Thwaites, Liner, Stothert & Pitt . I have a water cooled PH 2 in my 1964 Aveling Barford road roller. It had a stuck fuel rack, you can still get those rubber boots to protect the rack.
Unusual for a will it start video to end in a non-start! But that dumper is too tidy to cut up, so I go for REPAIR. I guess the decision on a refurbished pump versus the cheaper overhaul kit is again about the time spent rebuilding the pump yourself. By the time I type this you have the next video posted, so I am about to see what you decided! I want to hear that single cylinder Petter run - will remind me of time spent on the canals hearing narrow boats with old single and twin cylinder engines.😊
I've got a tenner waiting here for my dogs home raffle entry, after you've lightly resto'd it. If nothing else, I could relive the summer of '80, "helping out" on the local construction site at nine years old, starting the smelly old Thwaites dumper each morning and learning the fine art of brewing builder's tea.
Resto on anything weather it's a dumper or a e type cost more than there worth it's either sentimental or a use that these things get done . For making money you need to be the one charging for the work but even then it's not as lucrative as people think .looks good on TV but reality is a whole lot different. Do it for the love and put it to work that's what I say 👍
I have no need for a dumper but if I owned that one I'd get the rebuild kit and get it running. For £237 it's an absolute bargain to my mind for what it is. I know you're talking about the business case for flipping it, but what can you really buy for that money these days? It would be a real shame to chop it up for scrap.
Repair or at least pass it on, once it's gone it's gone and it may have some sentimental connection to someone who would be happy to chuck money at it.
I'd say repair M'lod, because when you spend 750 on another one, how long is that gonna take before the pump or something else goes wrong on it. With the low cost on buying it and even with the fixing cost it won't stand you for a lot and every working hour with the dumper you'll earn money back. Thanks for the video! Cheers, Mike
shes tidy for her age, if you have a use for her in your daily work, for a couple of hundred total cost its worth it, on the other hand no use to you then its no profit in it at lower sales price ect despite its overall condition, cut and scrap, got to be a ton there maybe ???
Yes, please repair, the process is educational and it keeps a decent machine going. You showed how straight the steel & wheels are👍, the fuel supply can be restored.
Bit of British Engineering history, Thwaites have been making Dumpers at Leamington Spa for over 80 years, it's a museum piece, fix it and have some fun. And it's probably older than we are.
The cheapest Thwaites dumper I could find on eBay is £1,250 and that’s a non-runner. You’ve got yourself a bargain and it’s worth spending a little more to get it running.
REPAIR, REPAIR, REPAIR!!!!! TOO GOOD TO SCRAP! Raffle it off once it's nicely running. Like you said it seems to have had a quiet life, nice and straight etc. That's what I would do in my humble opinion. 👍🙂
Keep it and repaint her lovely old dumper great channel spent some time around these ex mixer driver 64 now and tippers spent my whole life on sites with my dad before 😊
Interesting vehicle. Can’t say I’ve much if any experience with these although I have used a larger version of these dumpers over the years. Having read a few comments on this, the general consensus is to repair it with about a 50/50 split roughly, between using a service kit and replacement pump. With quite a few saying to get Kimberly involved with it. That being said, I can see your point of ‘is it worth it, time and money wise’. So, my suggestion is 1). Find out a good price for one of equal size that’s a runner and in good condition rather than guessing a price. 2). Get a service kit and get Kimberly to do a service on that while you see if there’s anything else related to that specific area of the machine that needs work on it to get it started. Then 3). See if that fixes the problem in order for it to start. If it does, all well and good. If not, re-evaluate it as a possible re-condition job to be done over a period of time. You get to it when you get to it. It’s small enough so you can store it somewhere out of the way. Job done.
Use to race (15 mph) around the site in one of these ,basil thwaites saw a market and made a mint.. From a Cubbington lad who made these 77 yrs young old now 🇬🇧👍 Dave
As a newly hatched diver , my first job was for Dean & Dybell (screaming screw ball ). I would get in early make the the tea and load all the dive kit into one of these beauties. Drive it to the end of Stone pier in Weymouth ,, ready to start the days diving work. Looking forward to seeing one repaired made whole again.
Bring Doris the dumper back from brink my god you can have some fun on her I once had the bigger 2 ton version with the twin cylinder diesel use fly up the farm track in third gear with a huge cloud of black smoke behind us great fun always brings a smile remembering driving it about
Repair 100%. Like Diesel Creek let it sit for a month or a couple years until your other you tube revenues eventually offset the cost and the cringe of doing it RIGHT NOW!!
Great video as always mucker i think repair and get running then if planning on selling put some wind in the tyres and a brush off and let the next owner do the rest looks like a lovely little machine keep up the good work 👍
Drove one of these in a scrapyard years ago moving stuff from place to place, got it so I could turn, tip and have it in reverse whilst still sliding forwards in the mud, hit the brakes backwards and back down went the tub, A right laugh! sounded awesome and smoked like a train. Happy Days.
My vote, save it, pretty it, raffle it for charity with your name on it.
Repair defo. Sometimes you make a loss . But you always learn new things. And that's priceless.its also educational for others.
I've got a Johnson 2HG dumper with the same engine. There are two fuel filters, the obvious one and one in the bottom of the tank. Your understanding of the cold start is correct.
Fuel supply from tank and then filter to pump is excellent - just sticking in the pump
@@LordMuck not questioning you at all. Your diagnosis is perfect. Looking forward to seeing it running. Donk, donk, donk, donk...........
Try the cheapest thing first. Rebuild the pump and the injector. At this point, clean the tank and filter, so you start with a fresh fuel system. Love your find Muck, you found a gem in the rough there.
Full resto,,,it deserves it,,,You could probably count on one hand the number in this good original condition in the country
Repair

Have many fond memories driving one of these around the local building site back in the seventies - until the coppers turned up and we had to leg it!
Repair - first machine I was allowed free reign on which we got free from a neighbour and encountered the same issues as you. Taught me a lot and hopefully repairing it will teach others too

My uncle took over and ran it to the ground.... It was frustrating.
Good video Back in the 70s I drove one of those on a small building site add no brakes on it that was fun thanks Danny
Repair, I haven't seen one of those in as straight condition in well ever, the ones my Dad had 30 years ago were pretty rough.
I got one of those working fine for £300, reliable and pretty fast in third gear. Loved the sound of the single piston. Dump, dump, dump. 😜

Definitely one to repair and restore!
I used to watch the builders using these Dumpers build the estate behind my house in 1965 and then go an play on them when they went home of an evening! 😎
Some farmers used to take off the skip and fit a scraper for muck passages
Just the greatest channel and content creator🙂 so this should be an epic revival! 👍
Repair! It's so rare to see one in good, straight condition.
Great video Mucker. REPAIR. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
I'm guessing one that straight is rare, restore it, or rather get Kimberly to restore it!
Good to be back , You got a very tidy little dumper and I think it is worth saving . I wish you all the best mucker and looking forward to your next video.
Now then mukka . For the sake of another £100 it has to be worth a go.
Repair!
Nice little dumper Mucker. People often let costs run away with a project so it's good to keep an eye on expenditure. Great video 👍
200 pounds that's cheap spend a bit more cash and keep the dumped a very handy tool better than a wheel barrow ? Great video Lord muck .

Have you seen what passes for a dumper these days?
Repair ! Thank you for another Great video. Cheers
Channel your inner Marty T. He’d give it a crack!

Repair. Barely been used, got loads of life in it & probably best one out there.
That's a unique piece. It could be handy for all sorts of odd jobs. I don't know how popular these are. This is the first one I've ever seen. I'd carry on. I believe some one would want it.
Enjoyed that video, I think you should repair it 👍

Think I'd strip the pump down and see how bad it is then get a repair kit if its a fixer. Would be good to see it repaired though!
Mucker loved the video and I love the saying grab hold of your natchez😂😂😂 👍👍

Repair it please, great little dumper
Of course you carry on. To clean and original to scrap. Little gem
Repair or sell on as is to good to cut up, not seen one that straight in year. Can remember driving one at about 11ish years old
Excellent video Lord Muck :) also repair to and be worth it too ! Great machine it is !
Repair. Decent little 👌 dumper.
Repair, too good of a condition to cut up for scrap.
Repair - haven't seen another one as clean and straight as this for a long time!
Repair! This machine cries for some mucker TLC and a new lease on life. I vote we go for it and send it.
Fantastic video mucka 👍🏻
Repair! It would be a crying shame for such a good condition dumper to go for recycling
Calamity Kim`s fixed up the Ransomes crawler. Give it to her to restore...
ps: love the cameo appearance of the collie dogs
Repair then raffle it off for the collie charity. Or would it benefit the charity itself, complimenting the tractor

Repair, it's still cheaper than buying another one.
Great vid
To be fair you’d probably get 400 sheets for it for spares and repairs. It’s always difficult weighing up wether it’s worth doing
Repair - not enough dents to cut up
Great video again, Kurt. If you've got a use for it, repair. If you haven't, recycle.
From a business pint of view, it’s probably scrap. But this is the entertainment industry Mucker, dance for me! (Repair)
I pretty much LIKE business Pints😁👍
Bit of British Engineering history, Thwaites have been making Dumpers at Leamington Spa for over 80 years, it's a museum piece, fix it and have some fun. And it's probably older than we are.
Repair, minimum to get running. it is very clean for age.
Great stuff Kurt and The Puppo's, repair, its a very nice little dumper👌👍🙏😎
Repair Repair Repair 😊
The guy turning that music box cracked me up 🙂
Repair it, cheap at the price, it will last you for YEARS, ( You will say, - How did we manage without it! )
Cheaper than hiring one 👍 be a handy little thing. I like the modern high lifts for tipping into skips or piling up but better than a wheel barrow.
Got to be worth a repair mucker
The cheapest Thwaites dumper I could find on eBay is £1,250 and that’s a non-runner. You’ve got yourself a bargain and it’s worth spending a little more to get it running.
Well that's bolloxed my idea about selling the engine to the fisherman..😂
Save the dumper rebuilding old injection pumps are fun
Gotta be a couple of stories out of a rebuild, cant let FarmCraft101 take all the glory building out Large Marge!
Mucka..... She is a very tidy example. You have started to get her going. Best finish now. They are fun to drive..... My exists Dad had a Peljob....😊
repair it looks a tidy old dumper
Diesel Creek just had an aneurysm hearing you say cut it up for scrap, lol.
Pump is 50 quid to get it referb
REPAIR, REPAIR, REPAIR!!!!! TOO GOOD TO SCRAP! Raffle it off once it's nicely running. Like you said it seems to have had a quiet life, nice and straight etc. That's what I would do in my humble opinion. 👍🙂

Looks too straight n tidy to cut up. That would suit someone looking for a small restoration project. Raffle off as a fundraiser as is.
Lovely bit of old kit!. Persue it, REPAIR it!. Great vid. A laugh and an education for us non mechanical 'Noddies!'. Nuff said!. 😂
Repair please.
Repair , Mucker a pump kit would be worth a punt . Great video Mucker 👍 🚜 🔧
Repair 👍🏻
Thwaites Dumpers one of the best sounds in the world, and I've rode on many as a kid thanks to the local construction sites at the time lol 😏

Matt would be proud of you getting old machinery going and keeping them away from the scrappers.
