Listening to these lyrics hits very hard. Growing up this song reflects some of the times me and my best friend had. Hardship, learning and messing about… sadly he passed away in 2009 and I’ve never really recovered from it. He left a legacy and has a wonderful family who I am still in touch with. Thank you Sam fender for delivering these kind of songs that make me think of the good times we had as a youth and will tell my children about this. We lived and loved and were like brothers growing up and we were afraid of each other’s mothers 🤣🤣 god bless x

For those who are a bit lost about this story... Sam is talking about his childhood in Kelso. More specifically about a friend he used to have called Joshua Watson and his family: the mother (Andrea) and the Godmother. It was a toxic friendship, Joshua was always looking for troubles and he got his. The Godmother was mentally ill, she was housed in by Joshua's family due to it and became a close friend of Sam's mother. Shortly after that, she killed herself. Later Joshua's family moved out to The Scottish Borders where they currently live in. Btw, Joshua and Sam were playing cowboys when the gun episode happened.

Was watching a thing with Lewis Capaldi and he said he listens to Sam Fender, so this is the song I first heard. Was not disappointed. I bought the album today and have had it on repeat all day. A majority of the singers I listen to are from the United Kingdom so I wonder, do I gravitate to them because I was born there or because they are better artists? Sam Fender is fantastic. :)

There was so much tension I was actually expecting a kiss near the end between the younger actors. But I think Sam is straight so I wasn't too surprised when they didn't. Anyway this is an amazing song and video. The two different timelines slightly confused me especially as it kept cutting back and forth but I admire Sam for going down the more abstract route. And yes one day he will be remembered as a legend.

Sam Fender. What a voice. A hollering bard for Britain's working class communities. We have needed representation for a LONG time. He is picking up the rules about what you can sing about & who you can represent in your art - and he is ripping them apart. Catch him in his ascendancy...when its most raw and he is closest to the pain. One day he will deserve to rest easy & the urgency of the songs will change as the music reflects his journey (got me tickets for Finsbury Park!)
