That "I catch myself in the mirror, see a pathetic little boy" line really hits home with me tbh. The entire song does tbh "I study the pattern, I see the triggers bit I can't shake em loose" line too

I know exactly what you mean. I love music. I listen to and appreciate new artists all the time. I haven’t been stopped in my tracks for quarter of a century. Sam Fender has done that to me five or six times in the past 10 weeks. He’s astonishing.
The Killers? I just rediscoverd Mr. Brightside that I listened to as a teenager, and I've been listening to their old songs that I missed, as well as their two new albums and all the Brandon Flowers interviews I could find. They're amazing.
61 years old, never been to any kind of concert, took my 14yld grandson to see him in Glasgow ovo as we love his music , big thanks to the Newcastle family there for hospitality shown
"A pathetic little boy, who has come to get you down". Astounding. There is no one else out there writing lyrics as meaningful as this. The kid is special.
I don't know his first album but I love how his second deals with the underlying issues that affect young men growing up in a working-class environment. Things we were taught to suppress from an early age which then manifest in our adulthood often wreaking our relationships as we come to terms with unconscious toxic masculinity, mental health and an inability to communicate our problems. Truly an album that will live far beyond it's time
this guy is so sad and liberating with his music tho none of it feels sad. it's like he sings the ugly realization of himself and life but that realization helps liberate the soul. amen man south shields here and well proud of the enigmatic soul that you are lad wonderful stuff.
Again, another brilliant song and music video. While Spit of You is my favourite single, this also has words that explain a situation I can relate to. I've been in a relationship for over 7 years and it's not always been easy. I've had rows with my partner about how shitty I am and how miserable I feel and the whole speech of "how can you still stay with when I'm like this". I can see the self-destructiveness is embedded in the video and the words of which describe how I have felt about myself many times before. And you feel like you're letting your partner down in the process. It's a horrid feeling, but a very real feeling. Thank you again Sam for writing that into words that describe my feelings perfectly.
However, I think that "Get You Down" is the centre song of the whole second album. It is a beautiful, adolescent-power song which brings a gazillion youth feelings to a listener.
Why does the entire album gets me back to the time when I was 16 - my friends, the smiles and laughs and hugs and the running around my tiny, dirty hometown. I literally have all these images flowing through my mind whenever I hear his songs.
I saw this guy live, before my prophet's gig (Bruce Springsteen). The 18th of May at Ferrara. Great surprise. So glad Bruce and rock music are gonna be in good hands. ubep

Such powerful stuff, I love Sam bringing his acting back for his own stories. Such talent from these two leads! Yes Sam and Monica! An emotional and encapsulating performance, what a song ❤️❤️

I'm a middle aged woman but I don't think that matters because I find Sam's music manages to connect with that bit inside all of us that never ages (the outside ages quicker than the inside ever does) Regardless of who we are, most of us experience the same feelings and self esteem issues and doubts at some point and that's what connects people in Sam's songs. Lyrics:
I try again
I study the pattern
I see the triggers
But I can't shake 'em loose
And all of my anger
You take on the chin
And I get you down
I get you down
I get you down
I never fought back
Just stood there humiliated
From the schoolyard to home
On the streets that we roam
And now I get you down
I catch myself in the mirror
See a pathetic little boy
Who's come to get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Oh
I watch you sleep
With eyes of contempt
Those eyes were meant for myself
But tonight, tonight I'm gonna get you down
I catch myself in the mirror
See a pathetic little boy
Who's come to get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Get you down
Oh
Oh
