The first time I was playing War Thunder, I used a Gladiator & I was continuously rolling & scissoring with a J8A. We were so close to the ground & we both tried to get on each other’s tail without stalling. It wasn’t until the end of the match when the rolling stopped. I bet people on both of our teams were just watching two biplanes doing some sort of “mating ritual” & decided to leave us be or were focused on something else.
For the barrel roll, it is recommended the pilot keeps the nose of the plane up while executing the roll. Normally, executing a barrel roll most planes the nose will dip down. Proper execution is to raise the nose and then execute the roll.
This video might be old, but I want to thank you for the tips. I just watched the video, implemented it, and got me 4 kills. People do really need to learn how to use the throttle and ruddles, so they may apply it towards the planes turns.
Could you possibly make this video with one of your team mates videoing this. it is hard for me to understand the actual maneuver. It would be helpful to see it from another persons perspective . Thank you :)
Hey guys, got the 4th episode of Air Combat Maneuvers for you, today featuring Scissors. We'll take a look at both flat and rolling scissors in this tutorial. Hope you guys enjoy! :)
Cheers guys, jostling with jengar sounds good ;) im working hard on collecting footage for other ACM episode im planning. Positioning could be one of them :)
Jengar, how do you use rudder? What are your control settings and what mode are you using? Also, I've been trying to do the scissors, where you maneuver the plane while looking at the enemy, but I haven't figured out how to do this. My issue is with controls.
Hey Jengar, how would you recommend one to counter an opponent in a more agile plane trying to lure you into a scissors? Simply extend in a dive? or is there more to it?
Nice work mate I do like this series you make things nice and simple to understand other people over complicate these manuvers to make themselves sound clever top notch :)
Cheers monk :) One can make this as clever or academic as one wants, truth is i was doing most of these maneuvers instinctively without knowing the name or the theory behind it, so in the end it isnt that complicated ;)
Hi mate! Thx for the well explained video.... and thx a lot for all your effort to do all the videos ... I really appreciate!!!! Please continue ;) As a joystick pilot I am fighting with a lot of disadvantages in arcade, but when it comes to dogfight , flying with joystick is an advantage :) Frankly speaking I don´t like to go into scissors, crashing into each other is an issue for me. I learned from watching you flying, how to avoid and get on enemy six .... but if you are in scissors, applying flaps may help from time to time too ... best regards and congrats for 1780 subs :) see you in the skies ;)
Hi and thanks for the vid. What are your inputs during the rolling scissors? Do you keep elevator pressed all the time? Or just the mouse pointing at the foe and then correcting with ailerons? Thanks!
good stuff Jengar! I see some console players have commented...it can be done. the rolling scissors is easier to do, but both can be done. I wish I had my console with me and I'd explain it, but I don't and it'll be a couple weeks still until I get vack home. you guys should be able to figure it out. the harder part is finding an enemy that is willing to go into a scissors 😉
Hey Jengar. Very interesting tutorial. Have you done a vid on the use of the rudder? Could you do one please, I would love to know more about it! Two questions: - How do you use the speed in your advantage? I see sometimes people wepping all the time while scissoring or cutting the throttle. Once you cut the throttle it's difficult to regain energy and keep up with the dogfight. - If you use the rudder, will it bleed your energy a lot? When is it wise to use rudder? When you are sure to get the advantage? Thanks a lot for your help!
Wepping in the vertical can be very good in a scissors, so can slowing down. Because you want to get behind the opponent and get guns on target. But you got to time it correctly. Which is something that comes with experience. The speed lost with rudderuse varies per plane :) But i could make a seperate video on that hehe :)
For planes like the Ta 152 and fw 190d high speed maneuvers are basically impossible because you've got other planes pulling 10g flat turns no problem when you can barely hold 8 :l
true, and the elevator on these planes make it unlikely that you can win a scissors. thats why i mentioned that the more maneuverable plane is in the advantage :)
no, it isnt. you and your opponent are constantly changing throttle, changing the angeles, using flaps or divebreaks, and responding to each other. It's constantly changing, there's nothing constant about it.
How are you keeping your reticle on him in these maneuvers without the plane controls moving. I’m using keyboard as well with mouse on an Xbox but without the c key to free look it’s hard to flying and use keys and keep eyes on him. Hard to explain but your circle is on him and it seems like your plane isn’t automatically kicking to point that way. Any tips? Thank you! Learned so much from you! I’m only a couple months into the game but am dedicated to flying the Germans mainly, and properly.
So, let's say I'm high altitude in a p-47D in arcade (7000m) Would rolling scissors be beneficial if I don't spot an enemy from below or above? or should I put them in an energy trap and climb up and drain their energy so I can dive on them if they're below me?
Rollinng scissors are meant to force an overshoot, its mostly a defensive maneuver for when you get jumped. I wouldnt use it in offensive moves with a p-47, because you want to keep your speed high in a p-47. Only as a last effort maneuver to safe the plane.
Hi Jengar! I love your videos I was wondering if you could make a aiming guide? Like how to improve your aim. After watching long5hot ace master class where you were featured in , and your aim in that video was godlike So is it possible if you could make a guide on improving aim?
mantain 100% throttle use manual engine controls and use propeller pitch 0% plus flaps under a certain amount of speed and G force 270 degree of engine is madness! use manual radiator and manual oil radiator at least 65% to use WEP all the time!
for my personal flying style i use 600m for wingmounted guns, and 800m for centrally mounted guns. 400 can be good if your style is more close quarter shooting.
you see someone behind you, take a look at him, and at the right distance you make a slight tuen letting him close in, and depending on what he does you start your roll, usually a flat sissors start from there. although it can also start when you pass each other and you make countering turns.
i cant speak about how difficult it is to learn on a console, as i play with pc, but in my eyes its worth any effort. It has saved my pilots countless times :)
congratz on starting your channel mate, most important tip i can give you is to consider the aim/purpose of your video's and maximize the usefullness of the video towards that aim/purpose.

Lmao I definitely did that with a ki-10 like 3 matches in
nice1 :) enjoyable moments!
When you accidentally realize you have been doing this maneuver without knowing it
true that, i've had those realizations as well in the past :)
It would be helpful for those of us are new to show how to actually perform the maneuver ( keystrokes). Thanks... appreciate your channel

i really have to continue this series as well.

agreed, glad it helped! Some video's are timeless ;)
Admit it, scissors are the most beautiful form of dogfights....
roger that!
Interesting video mate! I need a lot of practice doing this. It is a good way to shake off the enemy ;)
Practice makes perfect :) and indeed, it can be very effective :)
Thank you i didn't know how to do this before when people mentioned it, much appreciated
you're welcome!
Recently started playing. Learning a lot from your videos!!! Thanks 😊
Last dogfight was epic. The other pilot had some skills too.
Could you possibly make this video with one of your team mates videoing this. it is hard for me to understand the actual maneuver. It would be helpful to see it from another persons perspective . Thank you :)
i'll consider that mate, thanks for the feedback! :)

JOSTLING WITH JENGAR?
great video, my friend! very informative!
many thanks! how about next one about initial positioning for a dogfight, and positioning for multiple enemies (to avoid becoming totally defensive)?
Cheers guys, jostling with jengar sounds good ;) im working hard on collecting footage for other ACM episode im planning. Positioning could be one of them :)
+ajegray1 I agree mate
Extremely useful tips, thank you!
you're welcome mate :)

thank you Hans for the compliments, i will continue to work hard on proving quality content :) flaps can help a lot indeed :)
i genuine search up scissoring technique but it back fires horribly.
Will this still work on early jets? Been trying to shake off MiGs on my F-80A-5 and other more faster and manueverable jets.
Hi and thanks for the vid.
What are your inputs during the rolling scissors? Do you keep elevator pressed all the time? Or just the mouse pointing at the foe and then correcting with ailerons?
Thanks!
not all the time no, plaay with it :) and keep tapping that aileron to the other side when needed.
so you try to main speed and slow down? When do you do which?
good stuff Jengar!

Cheers mate ;) So there is indeed a way when there's a will to :) Good to know!
what control scheme do you use for these maneuvers? mouse and keyboard advanced?
yes! :)
Hey Jengar. Very interesting tutorial.

Thanks for your answer. I would love a vid on rudder control. You mention it a lot in your vids, like the next step in improving flights. Cheers
it is vital for becomming a master in arcade, rudder is less usefull in realistic.
I dont see the differemce between that and the high yoyo

Thanks , just starting to play planes and could use advice such as this vid , oh yeah I just subed yesterday, keep it up great vids.
Cheers for the sub jake, welcome aboard :)
I know it is years ago but isnt rolling scissors basically a constant one circle fight?
no, it isnt. you and your opponent are constantly changing throttle, changing the angeles, using flaps or divebreaks, and responding to each other. It's constantly changing, there's nothing constant about it.
very good video..thanks jengar..
Thank you Alaaddin! :)

He's using external view 3rd person view for that. It's the best way for good situational awareness.
nice video!
Cheers mate :)
The g2/trop is me...Thank YOU
long time ago brother o7 old timer like me ;)

Thank you Kato, aiming guide is amongst the possibilities, does take time though to collect footage. but i'll keep it in mind :)

i realy like your videos bro its gonna be a +sub from me ;) i bet your dutch am i rigth couse you have a dutch accent or is it just me ? :p
Welcome aboard mate :) and yes, ik kom inderdaad uit nederland ;)
Jengar ik wist het ;)
:)
what convergence do you use do you think 400m is ok
for my personal flying style i use 600m for wingmounted guns, and 800m for centrally mounted guns. 400 can be good if your style is more close quarter shooting.
cheers jengar great vids as normal thinking of joining the group
cheers mate, and feel free to :)
how would you start each of the scissors
you see someone behind you, take a look at him, and at the right distance you make a slight tuen letting him close in, and depending on what he does you start your roll, usually a flat sissors start from there. although it can also start when you pass each other and you make countering turns.
What distance is the right distance to make the turn
somwhere between 1.3 to 0.8 km, depending on your plane, his plane, angles of you and him and speed of both of you..
Also, learning scissors is going to be difficult on console.
Agree, im a console player and i also find it difficult
i cant speak about how difficult it is to learn on a console, as i play with pc, but in my eyes its worth any effort. It has saved my pilots countless times :)
Can you fly the BF110
in what mode? :)
hey jengar, i just made a new channel (i am the same person as The Silent Walrus) but anyways, do you have any tips for me on my videos?
congratz on starting your channel mate, most important tip i can give you is to consider the aim/purpose of your video's and maximize the usefullness of the video towards that aim/purpose.
I don't mind scissors battles, but I hate when his buddies swoop in :/
major +1 here...
Yeah
ah yea, thats where situational awareness comes in. You'll have to learn to judge where and when this is the best solution :)
I hate that XP 50 and 55 xd
you're dutch? XD
yes sir, 100% :)
