Wow, it isn't often that I see mouse aim users actually do this this well! I actually do this a lot in simulator battles and occasionally (or rather too often) in RB though I play both modes with joystick. This usually works best in an aircraft that has at least one of the following: - Excellent low speed thrust - Very good wing lift Before the Ju-87 D-5's wing lift coefficient was practically halved, this is actually the technique that I improvised/learned on my own when I was dogfighting P47s in my Ju-87 D-5 and I still use it.
Hey guys, in today's episode of Air combat maneuvers we're taking a look at the Climbing Spiral. Which is a maneuver that can help you to stall out your opponents and then get a perfect shot on the stalling enemy plane. If all goes to plan that is. As perfect as you can practice this maneuver, in a combat situation it's never perfect and you'll have to improvise ;)
The bread and butter of an ab ace's repertoire. Almost all of my maneuvers in a dogfight are derivations of this one simple move. Energy trapping/stall fighting at its best :)
I would also like to add that using flaps (especially landing flaps) at the peak of your climb helps immensely with the maneuver. They increase your lift and help maintain control in very low speed situations.
This is my first episode of the series, loved it, went and watched the all of them right away :P The scissors episode tho, i felt like you havent really touched on the magic of the stall scissoring, imho its a separate type lol, can cost a game if its left to 1v1 low on energy at the deck. Thing about it, you really just play with your speed, to slow down enough for an overshoot, but not too much so you'd have enough energy to pull up, and those 45 degree stall climb scissors, just scary lel
Nice video again Jengar! :) Maybe if you have the chance, may be good to see a good/effective counter to the climbing spiral in case people come against users of this particular tactic ;)
My suggestion would be avoid tunnel vision, be aware of the difference in energy between the enemy plane and yours. If you realize early on what the enemy is doing, dive away and gain separation. He who has the energy wins in this situation.
what stimproid says there is pretty much correct, dont let yourself be stalled out, experience will teach you to guess the energy states correctly, in the mean time, be aware of your speed and roll over and dive away when you slow down too much.
Wish there was a war thunder combat flight training class I could take lol I need to learn all these maneuvers as I'm just getting into planes after playing ground forces for a while. I know it will take a lot of practice and time to master these skills.
Hi Jengar, the rudder turn in AB - are you simultaneously controlling the camera so you can keep an eye on the enemy, in addition to maneuvering the plane?
i love the ki-43-II otsu, i once send in a ki-43 match to Long5hot, he used that in his Masterclass series, you should check that video out if you like the ki-43 ;) there's at least 1 rb vid on my own channel in it as well :)
Jengar I watched that video and your flying was really good, but you were flying the Ki-43-III. I think it is a lot easier to do well with the III rather than the II because having cannons instead of MGs makes such a massive difference. I have trouble when flying the Ki-43-II because the MGs don't seem to do any damage to BR 2.0-3.0 planes. It would be cool if you could make an arcade video for the II version so we can see how an ace pilot adapts to the low firepower :)
I cant explain the excact buttons mate, because everyone has their keys set up differently ;) i do explain which things are involved to make the maneuver.
I knew it ^-^ sadly enough he has some real life stuff that got in the way now but ya good that you are trying to learn the war thunder community some manouvres in RB and AB I don't know if you do a request series probably not... But maybe just maybe fly out the spitfire mk 24 :) or just a video with the plane in it looks so amazing (I have it myself)
i have my sub's chouce series for requests ;) check the playlists. i have a squadgameplay on the mk 22 somewhere in ab, which is worth watching, havnt done the mk 24 yet for a vid :)
If you can can you do a RB video for it I personally like RB more it's really interesting to watch and with the magic of editing you don't have to show the climbing (even though I don't mind seeing that)

Cheers mate, yeah, i also taught myself, and when reading what it was i realised i was already doing this myself ;)

agreed mate :) and same for me, use it a lot :)

yes, it can help in situations where you didnt quite manage your speed right and stall out yourself, which happens sometimes.
This is my first episode of the series, loved it, went and watched the all of them right away :P

Cheers mate :) i've been in a few over the past 3 years ;)
I've seen people do this maneuver before and I'm glad you've got a video about it. I've been using it and it works wonders.
One of the most useful maneuvers in AB. Excellent tips!
indeed it is, cheers mate :)
@Jengar Can you please describe the difference between a Chandelle and a spiral climb?
I love this maneuver....now its time to practice it until I can master it by making my opponent stall himself out.....thanks for posting JENGAR!👍😎✈
Cool video thanks!
np Mr. Crosby! o7
I play "you spin me right round like a record" while doing this.
haha, fitting :)
Nice video again Jengar! :)

super helpful man. thanks!
Glad it helped you out mate :)

It does, my video's are a good start though mate ;) You can find worst places to learn ;)
*attempts spiral climb to stall out enemy*
*Immediately gets pilot sniped*
practice makes perfect! o7
I do like these tip videos mate :)
cheers monk :)
Do you use the mouse at all in the climbing spiral or are you only using keys?
fly with the keyboard, look around with the mouse.
0:50 oh that’s just sad. Poor Cr-32 didn’t stand a chance
long awaited video. I manage to do so in AB but it's harder in RB
Sure thing mate, you cant really use rudder for this one in rb, it becomes a bit more tricky then, but still very much worth it :)
Much of my improvements in my skillset is thank to your precious vids!
Many thanks Jengar.
Please keep up the great work
Glad to hear that mate, i will :)
Hi Jengar, the rudder turn in AB - are you simultaneously controlling the camera so you can keep an eye on the enemy, in addition to maneuvering the plane?
yes sir, thats the idea :)
No videos on the sale?
What is there to say about the sale? its pretty self explanatory, i have a big premium review list if you need help with making a choice ;)
maybe some more stall fighting tactics? :D
Check the hammerhead episode ;)
ive seen it multiple times it helped me out a lot i just need something offensive :D
Oh...(;;^^)7......yah...i c.....
stall maneuvers are usually defensive in nature. Although you can be agressive while performing them ;)
Unless you are fighting a Swedish plane, then you just get one shotted.
More Ki-43 gameplay please... my favorite plane in the game but a challenge to fly when uptiered because of the lack of firepower :(
i love the ki-43-II otsu, i once send in a ki-43 match to Long5hot, he used that in his Masterclass series, you should check that video out if you like the ki-43 ;) there's at least 1 rb vid on my own channel in it as well :)

its number one in the last sub's choice episode, so you'll see it soon if nothing changes ;)
but you do not explain which buttons (maneuvers) to use!!!
I cant explain the excact buttons mate, because everyone has their keys set up differently ;) i do explain which things are involved to make the maneuver.
I've killed over 5000 pilots with this one. Easy Peezy. Great video Jengar ;)
Cheers mate :) so have i ;)
do you know long5hot? you are kinda similar except not the sexy low voice XD I already love you
Ty sir, I've done some collabs with longshot in the past mate, you can check the compilations :) and there's 1 or 2 loose matches with him as well.
I knew it ^-^ sadly enough he has some real life stuff that got in the way now but ya good that you are trying to learn the war thunder community some manouvres in RB and AB I don't know if you do a request series probably not... i'll keep it in mind mate :)
I dont understand how to do it
as i explained, practice it in test flight.
Who watch it in 2022
o7
Meh arcade. In AB all planes are jets.
FM's still vary wildly, but their more forgiving then in rb, thats true. The ab footage still illustrates nicely what the maneuver can do for you.
