  • Its been several weeks since I purchased this old farm conveyor. Today I am going to drag it out and see what it will take to get it running. Let me know what you think in the comments.

    Awesome seeing that old girl running Brad! My first day of working on my conveyor went about the same as yours… cameras off and tools everywhere 😂 I think you’re right about switching to belt drive, mine is belt and when it has gotten jammed up it’s nice knowing it’s not going to self destruct!

    Congratulations Brad 👍 looks like you got a deal on the conveyor. Keep lots of chain lube on hand. It would be safe insurance to put an amp meter on that motor to see if your stressing it under load. (load =wood going up the conveyor). You may want to see if a friction clutch will work in place of that Lovejoy. Maybe better and cheaper then a belt drive system. Good luck, It should help you with your workload in the woodyard.

    Great job Brad. Gotta love projects/days like that. Looks like a great speed for that ear corn elevator. You can still get that chain. Their is a tool that makes taking the links apart easier. Hey Brad, you can still slip drive the reduction box with a "V" belt for safety reasons. Just offset the drive motor to accommodate the pulleys and leave the belt tension just enough to get it to run.
    P.S. keep a bit of drain oil on hand to drizzle on the chain every other time you use it.

    Keep it simple and don’t overthink your mods on this.💪🇺🇸
    For future reference… most heavy use conveyors pull the load (top drive) rather than push it. I’m an equipment mechanic/welder/machinist/linebore guy by trade…keep your calm, common sense approach to this. Too many firewood guys lack mechanical common sense and intuition. Nice conveyor! I think that speed is perfect! I wouldn’t be afraid to leave the setup just how it is. There should be a trip on that motor in case it got in a bind and it will kick off. I wouldn’t think it would break the chain🤷‍♂️ Safer than having a belt to get caught up in. Well done Brad👊🏻🦅🥃🇺🇸

    There is an occasional loud bang. Investigate that. It may become a jam. I think one of the paddles is hitting as it rounds the top of the conveyor.

  • @bioniclife
    @bioniclife ปีที่แล้ว +3

    When you get your repair links, look to see if they have the tool to help break the chain and re-install the links. It kind of looks like a hatchet/hammer that is slotted (3 slots, I think) on the hatchet side, only flatter. It holds the chain and aligns the joints for easier removal and install. You can get by without it, but we had one and when the neighbors weren't borrowing it, we always used it.

    Your Gear reduction box is about 30 to one-you did good, make sure wood going into conveyor enters foot or so above the bottom drive pully and used motor oil on the chain..

    • @benscoles5085
      @benscoles5085 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wood Hound, YOU are correct !!! I timed it with the vid, and the output side of the reducer revolved at one rpm per second, the motor given speed is 1800 rpm which breaks down to 30 rpm's per second, so that gives a motor to reducer ratio of 30 to 1. and maybe +/- a bit of the error side to account for the load of the weight and friction of the drive chain and associated rust.

  • @benscoles5085

    😁hello Mr. Brad, looks good works good, IF you do convert this to run off of a belt, remember you can further tune in the conveyor speed by the belt pully's size , remember the chain gears on a ten speed bike, it I were in your position, I would not change a thing, I bet you look at it real good there is a shear pin in it someplace, now use some wd 40 to flush out the rust in the chain joints, and then follow with gear oil dribbled on it, and then some dribbled in the top end to remove rust and build up where the paddles touch the return trough, LOOKS GREAT

    I think the single drag chain will be better, definitely looks heavier than the two chain style and should be less likely to bind up. What's the plan for the conveyor, just to split into the dump? As for painting, just remember chrome don't get you home.

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I can split into the trailer and move it to where it’s getting stacked. Can also knock the piles over into the conveyor to load for deliveries. Will be better than throwing each individual piece

    If you want to know the ratio of the gear box diconnect the motor and mark the shaft of the gearbox and count how many turns it takes for the shaft to go all the way around if it takes 40 turns to go all the way around its a 40 to 1 sorry for this comment if you already know this

    I don't think you would have to worry about breaking that king and just doing firewood maybe if a kinlin stick got down in it it might pop to clean off but Keep the chain greased up with either wire rope cane loor white lesbian you should check the gear Box it might need some oil or it might run on Greece too but I hate that I'll do everything that you want to do and I think the gear Box will work better About when it gets wet and any resistance a gangster might slip more than what you want it to
