  • In today's video, I'm attacking the pile of Cherry rounds. The ‪@EastonmadeWoodSplitters‬ 12-22 and STK24 make quick work of it. I will fill both dump trailers with firewood and experiement with the 4 way wedge. I'll give you my thoughts on switching wedges, and we refill the bundle stand.

    I agree that box wedge does a lot more of the work and more quickly with slightly bigger rounds. Wresting bigger rounds on the table can wear the operator out pretty quick. Box wedge eliminates most of that fatigue

    The slivers in your waste totes we sell as kindling, we fill 1 column with kindling and sell by donation with no set price, customers are happy and a way to get rid of waste wood.

    I have a 12-22 with a box wedge, tall 4way and 6way. I primarily use the 4way. Every once in a while I put the box wedge on to remind me how much I hate the trash it produces:

    hi there nice show . wish i had some cherry , kind of hard to come by here , think i will stick with a single wedge and table , i call the box wedge wood feathered wood , they seem to be covered with more splinters but in turn makes them catch fire easier , well done john

    Gotta love the customers who order early to help with the drying especially for 6 cords. Saves probably 10-12 hours of stacking and loading by hand. How does the debris/waste compare between the 4- way wedge and the box wedge? I guess since you’re selling bags of kindling it’s technically not waste.

    Where are located in Maine? I am the Firewood Czar for the Falmouth Lion's. Love how clean and organized your operation is. We sell both seasoned firewood by the cord along with 2 firepit wood stands and sell columns of wood without having to bundle and wrap. We have sold over $700 in firepit wood this season.

    Hello Mr. Brad, One thing I have noticed with folks who have box splitter's they take the splits as they come, folks with 4 way or singles tend to be a little more picky with the size of the splits, sort of like filleting a fish vs whole fish, one is faster the other yields a little more fish.

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great analogy Ben. Yes I find myself striving for the perfect split on the 4 way. Box wedge you just shove it through

  • @FirewoodfromtheSawmill
    @FirewoodfromtheSawmill ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Cherry wood is the best! I cringed a little when you lifted the box wedge by bending your back, glad you didn’t hurt yourself. Stay safe and keep it up!

  • @LogCabinFirewood
    @LogCabinFirewood ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ha, getting spoiled is one if the main reasons i haven't ran your box wedge yet, ive fed it and see how fast it splits, which is extremely quicker than the 4 way. Like you said though, for me i do like the 4 way for its ability to fine tune the pieces we create. Another advantage to the 4 way is you can actually split some of the crotchy pieces😂😂 Cheers Brad.

    Hey Scheib, you have a skid steer, use it to change the wedges. You'll wish ya had when you're laid up w a wrenched back.

      @@FirewoodattheFurnace as a born bred and raised dairy farmer I know the perils of the back.
      Dad had his operated on in his 30s and I contribute his death at 51 in part to long term pain meds.
      I've made it to 52 now and have been very lucky. Don't get me wrong, I have wrenched it to point of barely able to walk. Guess what. Cows don't give a damn, they need to be tended.
      Just please, work smarter not harder. Btw, I think Scheib may be starting to listen to us that have commented along these lines.
      Keep up the great work. Would hate to see any of the woodhounds unnecessarily laid up

    My friend - how did you land on your pricing? I have been doing $6 or 2/$10 and I just feel like I’m leaving money on the table, $7 but 3/$20 sounds great… and more worth the time. I have bigger and better looking bundles than everyone around and would still be cheaper than the gas stations and farm stores and I’m 1 door down from a major camp ground. Feel guilty raising prices … need advice! In upstate NY

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I started at $5 per bundle and knew I was too cheap fairly quickly. My bundles are larger and cheaper than the stores around me. I set my price just under theirs and provide more wood. 90% of my customers buy increments of 3 at a time. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!

    Hey Brad. Do you wish your Dump trailer was bigger. I am trying to decide on a 14ft Kaufman or a 16ft Gooseneck. But that extra 2ft will not make that big of difference in Firewood.
