I really love the Parable of the Bad Poet. It's so true - maybe that bloke hasn't seen the inside of a classroom in a long time and he's forgotten how to make the skilled words come, but he's poured his soul out on that paper. Everything in his heart is in those words. Who the hell is anyone else, to tell him it's not enough?
He feels both very ye olde timey and also modern at the same time. He has a lot to say about a lot of things and he thinks about his art in a very familiar way. He's a great speaker and I love his opinions on many things, he seems critical thinking and very much analyses everything around him.
The story about the calligraphers criticizing the poetry he chooses starting at 5:45 was really irritating. He is absolutely right. How boring if we limited ourselves to only the most well known artists. I loved his calling them out.
As an artist, he mentions getting off the chair and stepping back for some perspective of the whole piece, this helped make my art much better.. super good advice

@@AwesomeDude799 well, he's not correct about the Greek origin, a glyph in greek is a carving, as in hieroglyphs "sacred carvings". The term was used as un umbrella for any form of letters, not just the carvings afterwards, but calligraphy literally means "[the making of] beautiful carvings"

But things making sense has nothing to do with definitions of asmr lol wtf. It is just that traditionally on youtube you would see that kind of asmr. Bruh.
Leuan is a wonderful human and master craftsman! I had the honour of helping him lay the stone for my good friend Dan, who sadly passed away seven years ago. The craftsmanship and attention to detail on Dan’s stone is breathtaking! I’m glad Leuan is getting the praise he deserves.

That makes me think. When you see/hear about all these horrible accidents and how they're being documented by some shocked passerby with their phones it makes me wonder... Why not go up to that person with their leg ripped off, fight through the horror of it and comfort them as they cling on to their last seconds of life? Hopefully none of us will ever know what it feels like to only see horrified grimaces and flashing cameras before they pass, but those who only see kind eyes... we can't picture how lucky they are.
its easy to learn with proper tools. i know a mason and he taught me the basics in 10 minutes and i carved the name of a friend in a small stone as a paperweight for a joke :). and it is a verry satisfying work, feeling the stone breaking away
I love this accent so much, it really relaxes me. He’s so calming to listen to. I understand why he uses his nail for the chisel check, it’s very efficient. Bless this dragonman. As for his comment on the flag, I cannot agree more! His version of it is beautiful
The one the Welsh currently use isn't the original one. It's the flag of Cadwalladr ( C.655 ), known also as the Tudor. The original is the one Owain Glyndwr used. Golden on a field of white. (And supposedly used by King Arthur, that right, he was Welsh, not English)

This is like my dream gig, to be trained under the apprenticeship of someone like this. And carry on the ways living a simple country life, being left alone to my craft.

Quite similar, obviously to another artist’s words... we don’t make mistakes, we make happy little accidents
There are no mistakes, just happy accidents- Bob ross
Thats right. Getting an art degree doesnt make you good at art. Doing art makes you good at art
Take that hitler
If that’s the case then why get a degree in the first place
Yeah but an art degree is a very good starting point. Never disparage learning from people more experienced than you.
@@theminiyosshi2901 because if you need a job you will need it its a requirement today.

As a welsh person myself, Ieuan did make me giggle when he said about the tame looking dragon of our flag. He does look hella stoned, pun intended

That was from Wikipedia, I wrote that article! :)
This man is full of wisdom.

This guy’s got balls to use his fingernails to test the sharpness of his knives
You'd be surprised how many people do that. It's all based on preference really, there are many ways to tell if a knife is sharp.
@@ethanstang9941 I use my thumb
Its not a knife
Well.. chisel. But knives too.
Thats because of nails position in the sharpness scale
I bet if you sat down and had just one conversation with this man their is no way you could possibly leave the same person
He feels both very ye olde timey and also modern at the same time. He has a lot to say about a lot of things and he thinks about his art in a very familiar way. He's a great speaker and I love his opinions on many things, he seems critical thinking and very much analyses everything around him.
As a Welsh person, i say that this guy should represent us😂
If he does represent the Welsh, the Welsh can't be half bad.
I would love if he represented us welsh people
He can represent you guys if there are aliens coming to Earth as well, even invite them for a pint.
Agreed
As a NON welsh person, i say that gramps should represent what people should be like regardless.

WTF? He's storytelling history and graphic designing with rock at the same time?! I can't even pee in the toilet with the lights off at the same time.
jammernaught i only pee with the lights off
to be fair that is a pretty hard expectation

A lot of inspiring words of wisdom in this video. I am training myself to become an animator and I often find myself depressed because I can never seem to get the beautiful images out of my head onto paper. This video helped to remind me of some things that I needed to hear. I would love to see this full-length life lesson.
Thanks for posting.

The calligraphy bit was especially interesting. Going to be dropping calligraphy trivia into random conversations from now on so I sound smarter and more cultured than I am.
He was literally wrong about it lol
@@99Plastics How so?
@@AwesomeDude799 well, he's not correct about the Greek origin, a glyph in greek is a carving, as in hieroglyphs "sacred carvings". The term was used as un umbrella for any form of letters, not just the carvings afterwards, but calligraphy literally means "[the making of] beautiful carvings"

Every once in a while, I come to this video. I often wonder how this man is doing, I genuinely hope he and his family are happy and healthy.
This isn’t ASMR because he’s making sense and I actually give a shit about what he’s saying.
Right?
Mm. That being said, I could definitely see how 20 minutes of him carving with no words would be ASMR, especially if you watch the video once to see what he has carved before (and thus can picture it in your mind as an added aid).
Best comment...
But things making sense has nothing to do with definitions of asmr lol wtf. It is just that traditionally on youtube you would see that kind of asmr. Bruh.
Omg im rollin
You can tell this guy know his stuff he's like gandalf you could sit in a room with him and never run out of conversation a very charming man
Legend has it that it was actually him that carved out the Ten Commandments.
He was a talkative man, an artist, a craftsman.

This is seriously the most beautiful and inspiring video I've ever seen on TH-cam. This is what the internet should be about.
Came across this years and you have yet to find a video as good as this one.
@@taffyducks544 I actually never knew that. Thank you for informing me bud. Mind giving me an image of his dragon finished by the way? I'd love to do him justice in making a Welsh flag drawing in that style. Either way, it's nice to hear from across the Irish channel from time to time
