Come and see one of your own that disrespect some African countries for eating snails. So I purposely came to TH-cam to watch some delicacies of Gambians and shoe it to her to prove her that in every country there are foods another might not like but that doesn't give you the right to disrespect others people delicacies.
I just made this and it came out really tasty. I only used chicken and I did not have snail but everything else was available. The part i struggled with was the browning of the tomato paste. I think I could have gone darker but it still tastes good
I came all the way from Instagram for this recipe. I'm happy we share the same belief of removing all visible fat from chicken. Well done!👏🏽👏🏽 wish you all the best in your channel journey.
Hello my dear. I am here because of one of you Aunty who is my childhood friend since Gambia 🇬🇲. Her name is Ola/Fanny. She told me about your channel. I said i will visit you. I also know your mom we all grew up together in Banjul. The benachin looks absolutely delicious. Oh yes we love Maggie and Jumbo seasoning. I love the yate in my benachin. You did a great job in this recipe. My mouth is watering. You can really cook. It's great to be here. Looking forward to seeing more videos and stay connected. I enjoyed watching.... Tfs
Thank you so much for reaching out. I will definitely tell my mom. She will be delighted. I love your food content as well. I can’t wait to watch your videos and stay connected 🥰
*Note: reduce oil before sautéing the onions if you want less oil in the dish. However, make sure you have enough oil so that the 10 cups of rice won’t stick together 🥰
Nothing to compare with Gambian and Senegalese Benechin Rice. I ate it for the first time at Friend house, he Wife is from Gambia. Is the best Rice that I have ever ate. Another great Rice is from East Africa, especially from Tanzania. The call it Pilau
Thank you so much. I am glad you enjoyed it ☺️. There aren’t a lot of videos of Gambian and Senegalese food, so I was excited to make this video. I have a Fish Benachin recipe coming in 2 week. I have never tried Pilau before. It is on list of foods to try now.
If am cooking this for home meals, I would only use either extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil because seed oils are not healthy for you. Hover, this is beautiful and well explained, I enjoyed the video.
Please do more jellof rice recipes. Also there is a chicken I ate it was so good. She cooked it in a clay pot in the oven with mustard and onions, please if you know what it is can you cook it. Thank you
I made the white fish Jollof as well. Scroll up to watch it. The cooking process is the same. Both the red and white version can be made using fish, chicken &/or beef/lamb. The chicken in the clay pot is called Poulet Yassa (Chicken Yassa). I have a video of that as well. I made it with couscous, but you can pair it with rice or salad w/ French bread.
Yes, type in Jollof kingdom. The people there are Wolof. They are the main tribe of Senegal and Gambia. It's their tribe's dish, (it's like saying "Yoruba rice") and it was spread throughout West Africa as the Wolofs were Muslim allies with the Fulanis, Hausas and Mandinkas who spread it everywhere through trade and Islamization. People will try to claim what's not theirs, we should give credit where it is due.
Habibty amazing dish, I just felt like you could have blended your onion instead of dicing then they melt into the tomato sauce much quick and save you a lot of headache rather than dicing it into little cubes. I’m Pakistani we use the same oil onion and tomato base for majority of our curries and biryani.
How do you make yete at home for those who don't have access to it? How do you ferment the snail? Ghanaians use a fermented fish called momone, I wonder if it's the same fermentation process.
Also a question on the pot: do you find these steel or aluminium pans work best for frying/browning of the tomato-oil-onion-spices mix? Wondering if some of the nonstick pans work as well…
You can find these pots at international stores. Check for the pots at African, Hispanic stores… Amazon and Walmart should have some (I search “African metal pots” on Google). I never tried cooking Benachin in a nonstick pan but it should work
Its because Nigerians and Ghanaians haven't seen Jollof rice of other countries, they make big mouth saying they have the best Jollof in West Africa, HELL NO!! Sierra leone 🇸🇱 Gambia 🇬🇲 Senegal 🇸🇳 have better Jollof rice than Ghana 🇬🇭 and Nigeria 🇳🇬.
She said in the video it's for added flavor and you can leave the snail out. My Gambian freind makes it for me all the time and doesn't add the African snail just eggplant, cabbage, carrots and whatever her choice of meat at times she'll add fish.
had thin in Gambia...delicious! Oops looks like I should not write when remembering such good memories a pre-breakfast stomach. Was on Field Trip, my friend's Mother made this for me. So many good memories...Ate this in Gambia...what I formerly meant to write. 🚆
I'm from Louisiana born and raised, and we call this dish Jambalaya (which originated in Senegal). The only difference is I prefer the Senegalese way, so much healthier and delicious. I'm creole by the way.
Good of you to discuss the (imho) ridiculous debates about Jollof rice; the fact that it’s named after an old Wolof kingdom located in Senegal should put all this dumb stuff to rest…i also dislike some of these youtubes where people of the same ethnic background harshely critique each other’s cookery without knowing or acknowledging anything of the historical context…makes Africans look like idiots and very negative, same for many older racist programs on Asian cuisines etc…
@@muninanicol9588 Gambia is poor in history, which is why you cling so much to the term Senegambia to attract attention at the expense of Senegal. But benachin is a Senegalese dish from Saint Louis that you eat in Gambia like in any other country. It was never from Senegambia, you invented that lie because, as I said, you have no history to speak of. So don't tell me what my history is, stick to your history of Gambia and I'll stick to mine of Senegal.
Thank you 🥰. And you can definitely reduce the oil before sautéing the onions if you want less oil in the dish. However, make sure you have enough oil so that the 10 cups of rice won’t stick together ☺️
Yaaaassss your chicken looks so well cleaned.... that looks delicious as usual
Thank you 🥰
One of the best and most authentic Benachin videos on YT! Well done sis!
Ghanaians need to put respect on Gambian jollof
Thank you 🥰. Also, both are delicious ☺️
We here battling the Nigerians about who makes the best jollof all the while the inventors themselves are keeping mute.
We always do.
Wallahi they do the only ones than can talk are Senegal and we know it all

Thank you so much :)

This is one of my favorite food because I tried more than 100 times
This is one of my favorite dishes. I prefer to use lamb. I love the flavor that gets inside the carrots & cabbage!
If am cooking this for home meals, I would only use either extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil because seed oils are not healthy for you. Hover, this is beautiful and well explained, I enjoyed the video.
Thank you. I recently started using grape seed oil and olive oil
Yessss! That Benechin looks so good!😍❤️😋😋
Thank you so much :)

That's called chicken 🐔 yassa 😊 in Gambia and senegal
Thanks for sharing, also I think the tomato paste when added fire/heat should be reduce to avoid the sauce burning making the rice too dark. Sheers
Yeas more jollof videos. I love Gambian jollof it’s delicious
🥰🥰🥰 check out the white fish version too. It’s really good.
Waoo so yummy yummy
Wohoo i love this looking really delicious 😋

😍😍😍😍 i am trying to cook this next week!
It’s crazy as a Nigerian I always thought jollof rice originated from Nigeria interesting to know it’s from Senegal
Senegambia

amazing cooking! i can't wait to try it out.
Thank you 🥰
Yes. That's the proper way to clean chicken. When the skin is left on it creates a fatty residue in your sauce.
I can't wait to try this recipe! Looks so good🤩🤩
Thank you 🥰
YES oh
YES
Wow this is beautiful 💯🔥

Saw u ok TikTok juicy crab. Looks forward to ur cooking
Thank you. I appreciate your support 🤗
How much water do you add to cook the rice properly?
I was born in The Gambia to Ghanaian parents. Trust me when I say that Gambian jollof is the best ❤

Just the chicken ☺️
That looks amazing! I can’t do all that sodium though 😩
You can reduce it. The oil and sodium 🥰

Normally after adding the water 💧 and the meat 🍖 😊

So you have to cook ur rice first before putting it on ur source or
No we just stemmed it or just like that
Nice looking.
But don't you think it's fatten meal?

Sierra leone 🇸🇱
Gambia 🇬🇲
Senegal 🇸🇳 have better Jollof rice than Ghana 🇬🇭 and Nigeria 🇳🇬.
Is the parsley too traditional? You use parsley in Gambia too? Because I have never seen parsley in West Africa in the country I live .
Yes it is. We use parsley a lot. What country are you in?
Senegal and Gambia
What kind of rice does Gambia and Senegal use for jollof rice? Is it broken jasmine rice? The one in your video is basmati.
It depends on my mood. You can use either ☺️
I got excited at first but when you said add snail, no. Can you tell me what is the purpose of adding snail?

In a Senegalese shop yes but I always bring mine from Gambia 🇬🇲 😊
In Antwerpen
FBA's call it Jambalaya

The difference between your jollof and Nigerian jollof is that you use tomato paste without fresh bell pepper and fresh tomatoes
Can you please make a fish jollof rice
Do you want the red or white fish Jollof? 🥰

May I ask the measurements for a family of 5 because that like a family of 10 you made. Lol we don’t need that much.

Did that beef meat get to cook properly
Yes it did. After frying, I added both the chicken and beef to the pot to boil and cook 🥰
