good tip: in stead of using tape on the left on the bumper what will leave a line you want to use a A4 paper and fold it in half so you have the round side of the paper facing the part you want to paint. in that way you wont have a line but you have a smooth trasition.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I repaired huge deep scratches on my car (took me maybe 10 hours all up across 2 days). I'm a car noob but following this video helped me get perfect results! I really appreciate the simplicity of this video and the fact that I saved around $1000 by doing this myself. Something I didn't expect however was the mismatch of my car gloss with the acrylic lacquer so I had to buff out the repaired area afterwards.
yes theres a hard paint line where the paint was applied right up to the taped off area. This could have been avoided by not taping the masking paper tight down to the bumper but placed over it instead and secured. However with a fine wet and dry paper it could be feathered in and buffed up. which i later read is what the guy did and got a seamless transition. Good repair.
I enjoyed the video you made repairing the Audi, but this video made me believe that even I could do it. My biggest mistake in the past was not taking enough time ( impatience) and applying the paint too thickly, both of which I now recognise as my main mistakes. Thanks so much. Colin.
A tip. Apply the filler first and then sand the whole thing once. Yes, it's unorthodox but the deep part of the scratch has already been abraded so it will stick unless it's an old repair and has been waxed.
Hi. What I like about you my sir. You don't leave any small detail out. Like most of the other guys. I'm definitely a big fan of yours. Thanks again my sir.
Note: Don't tape the side you aren't painting. You'll have a hard line. Some fall over from the paint is okay. You can always buff out imperfections later. 👌🚗👍
I used a curved paper edges because of chris fix' shit and now i have a hard line! fuckkkk now i gotta repaint my shit and do primer, base coats and clear coats again sighhhh
As much as this is a great video it's not for amateurs , you need a shed for one , it's time consuming, it's not worth the hassle for someone to try it inexperienced. Not too knock your video it's brilliantly done...I had to get my corrected by a panel beater, still glad I tried it. I def recommend watching it a few times and do small parts at one time.
Why not buy a second hand one? My car has around 3 pin dents on the passenger door. I was thinking how much would it be to pay someone to remove it but I forgot I could get a second hand door
Hey everyone, the best results that ive ever had was with the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the no.1 course that I have ever tried.
Very good and clear instructions on how to repair and repaint the bumper. However, I can see a line where the tape was on the left side of the painted area, meaning that the paint won't have a consistent color with the rest of the bumper. He should have repainted the entire bumper, so there is no line and the paint color would be consistent across the entire bumper. Even if you can get the same paint using the color code from the manufacturer, it does not mean that the new paint is exactly the same color. It appears that he did the work outside in the drive way or the street, which is no no for painting. You can do all the sanding, body filling, and scuffing outside to keep the dusts level down but you want to paint inside a garage or close space, so you don't get air borne contaminants to settle on your wet paint. The best option at home garage is really using plastic liner and masking tape to make the enclose space big enough to keep the car inside and prevent the dusts from settling on the paint. Of course, you would want to wear decent respirator for the entire time including sanding, cleaning, painting, etc. to protect your lungs from the nasty dusts and aerosol paint. He is right on one thing, the painting has to be done at the right temperature and humidity so that the paint can dry and cure properly or it won't last.
Nice clear no-nonsence video. I will definately be following this advice to repair a deep scratch on our Honda. Great looking job too so I will be chuffed if my repair looks that good.
Wow! Great job! I just stupidly bumped our car into our wall. Now the left side rear bumper has a crack and the sides of the bumper has a long scratch. I hope I find the right red color though. But thanks!
I scratched or I should say scuffed my inside car frame (front passenger door). Went to kfc drive through it was dark and quite narrow (never used drive through before). I’m quite worried. Husband doesn’t know yet 😭
Be sure to designate a safe space for your vehicle, away from moving traffic. Ideally in a garage with adequate ventilation to prevent particulate matter from landing on your paint during each stage. Quite a great job! (I think it'd look stellar if you contacted your manufacturer and matched the make(I presume a Volvo or Saab) and model's paint to match the original engine manufacturer's (OEMs))
great video but one thing you never do is cut a panel or bumper in half to prevent paint from going over. what it will do is leave a line when you tear the tape off like what happen at 8:40 . you should be better at leaving it open and light spray over to do a blend in
Still a professional job in my opinion if you want it done properly.I used to hand paint my old VW Beetle I didn't care.If you want to bodge it on an old car fair enough..
Great video and easy step by step guide which I would have no problem following and achieving... But this is my main problem !!!!! How to correctly match the sprayed area/colour to the original colour ??????
You need to start with 80 sand it until the BLACK do not do it like he shows, as the filler will not grab on well on the finish of the bumper! Then you will see deeper scratches fill those. Then use 80 again to take it off the filler. Then use 180 to smooth it out gently and primer it, a couple times then fine sand it, then paint it
Thanks for the technique! Where can someone buy the spray paint to match the make and model of the car? This information would be extremely helpful to your viewers!
The only thing I noticed was the overspary on the left of the bumper @ 8:42 there is a definite line in the paint from where you removed the masking tape.
People going on about the difference in color: *IT'S CALLED FLASHING!!! PAINT LOSES IT VIBRANCY AFTER UV RAYS FADE THE COLORS OVER THE YEARS. CHILL OUT!! IT LOOKS GREAT.*
Just amazzzzing! You're a real Pro! WOW!! Question - does the primer need to be the same colour as the vehicle? Also, I have tiny wells on my hood. I think that's what they're called. Would I use the same method as above to repair this chipped paint?
Just a TIP don't tape the other side of the bumper when applying the colour and clear coat or you'll end with with a picture fame affect like you did in the video where you can tell its not bleeding into the paint
u need to use blend out thinner so u don't get a hard edge and probably get a coloured matched aerosol from an car paint supply store because hycote only have standard shade color in there aerosols just a tip.
Obviously the new paint inst going to match the paint that has been on your car for years...the only part where he screwed up was he masked while putting on the base coat and didn't blend anything.
Paint matching tho. Doesnt come in your usual £8-15 rattle can on some car colours. According to one site, £47 for a 300ml spray can and some clear coat.
How come the bumper is a different colour from the rest of the car ? and you have masked so you have a hard edge. You should have compounded the rest of the bumper and on the last coat of clear used a blending clear thinner
I recently scratched my car on a column and the body shop is quoting my really high prices. It is burgundy Fiat 500 so what will I need to get do the repair myself? Sanding papers (of different sizes), body filler, primer (should I look for a red one?), the actual paint colour, and what else? Your reply is much appreciated
Because you probably don't want to end up having a bumper with a different color from the body like this. For me personally it's an eyesore, I rather keep the scratches.
Good body shops can blend so well that we can't tell the difference. It is unnecessary to paint the entire car unless the entire car is scratched. Go to a real body shop & make sure it isn't a place designed to paint entire cars.
At 9:04 when you remove the masking tape and paper you can clearly see the vertical boundary line where the new spray met the original coat. How did you remedy that line because that always happens to me on these kinds of jobs (complete DIYer) and I can never fix it. Also I noticed you very cleverly stopped the camera from panning all the way over to the line I'm talking about when you showed the final job and congratulated yourself on 'not bad for a morning's work'. Nice tutorial! I need to repair our silver Focus. One question though... after sanding sanding the filler and moving to 180 or higher for the area,, how do you know when you've sanded enough?
Great vid...it's even worse when someone ELSE caused it.. came out of the store yesterday and found a huge scratch...sigh. I want to try this...it'll save me a 500 deductible. Where would I find the paint to match my car- the dealer?
Be better if we saw the area where it was fluffed off along the bumper, you normally have over spray and when buffed n polished it shows a line like a join.
Never ever mask off a bumper like that otherwise you get a nasty line. Just leave it but clean everything with T cut and then polish the area which you've blown in. That way, no line. Jus sayin.
I just watched this first videos and I have to subscribed, such a great job💪💪. I will deft try this on my car. I have a question when you used the primer where can i find out what color do I need for my car?
This dude actually owns an expensive body shop and he is hoping that everyone here follows this video and then comes to his shop because of the two different color bumpers.LOL.Just joking Mad4Motors.You tried to help and that's nice of you.
So how do match the exact same paint color to the original color ? Is there a paint number somewhere on the car ? And if so is it easily available in rattle spray cans ?
The color code is usually on the driver's door frame. Your owner's manual and/or dealer would help you locate it if needed. The paint is normally available at either an auto parts store (often cheaper price) or at the dealership. The problem is it rarely matches exactly. If you notice the new paint in the video doesn't appear to match exactly either.
The cheaper and better option is get a company to do it the have electric sanders so it’s quicker and can match the color completely and make it shiny they all use a spray gun and polish so basically it cheaper and better it look trash when you do it you self
Thanks for the video. Going to give this a try tomorrow, and if it's doesn't come up good, my dad will kill me😂 Where can I find the right colour top coat for my car?

I have VV Passat 2015 Sedan Dark Mehron color and i am thinking to apply paint to my car front and back bumper along with removal or scratches. Would you tell me how do you choose a proper paint for your car ?
So I saw this video and the one on how to fix the clear coat. If my panel has a scratch like this and also clear coat peeling off, which products should I use?
Probably better to go to the paint store and have them match the paint and put it in a spray can. I can see the difference on the color of the bumper. Great vid though.
He didnt finish yet. There is still a bit of blending to do. Since he masked the very edge of the bumper he has a hard line. He will have to sand it with 2000 grit and then polish the full panel. It should be all even by then
Isn't 3m Bondo available in the UK? It'd work much better than the stuff you're using. And you should have painted the whole bumper instead of having 2 different colors.
Nice to see a fellow Irish man not afraid to get his hands dirty. I was at this today on our golf. 100% not the right conditions, I was huddled under an umbrella on a child's step for a seat. I got as far as primer and spotted a few pin holes. I want to try get it right so I'll get some pin hole putty. I seen your other video, the golf wheel arch, that's what I was doing. Really bad rust/paint blisters. Do you know the gold golf you painted. There is a block of foam in the arch, that's what the problem is, vs installed to prevent vibration. I grabbed a good 6" of it and pulled the fucker out. It was ringing wet. Just needs a touch up and rib down plus some more degrees before I paint. But it's too old to be sending it in for £1000 pound vs wings respray. There was a recall but they're no longer taking full responsibility. I must remember that when I committed murder. Arrested me? No no. I no longer take responsibility for my own actions lol good job sir either way. You sound like your name might be Joe, or pat or something. Am I close? :)
Thanks for this great video. You made it look so easy! Two questions for you (or anyone else that might be reading). I just scratched my car (also a Seat) and I am gutted :( It was on the the back quarter panel, so not plastic, but metal and the scratches go down past the under coat. Is your video (and all the materials) applicable to that? Will it work? I really hope so..... Oh, and subbed!
now this is a NO BULL SHIT Video?!. surprised that you didn't post affiliate links making it true DIY. kudos. do however post the products needed- as I see you spoke of PRIMER, FILLER, SAND PAPERS, MASK TAPE, ALCOHOL, SPRAY PAINT AUTO. was it complete? Also what if a new standard black bumper needs paint on it(matching car manufacturers color) ?? -- is just a direct PRIMER application+ SPRAY PAINT good enough? glad, if you'd reply. Tada.

Usually paint shop persons blend it by wet sanding with 3000+ sandpaper and buff it with compound

When you guys are saying to buff out the hard lines he leaves from the tape, what do you mean by that? Do you use sandpaper to buff the transition?
I believe wet sanding and more clear coat.
@@ElGranRojo903 what is the purpose of wet sand vs just dry sanding? Haven't worked with paint much lol.
@@kobekile8099 it's smoother & less likely to cause scratches & is often done after dry sanding. Dry sanding is a bit harsher
Am I close? :)
Youre close! Good to hear you repairing it yourself!
Mad4Motors Pádraig! Would it the cowards name you be puttin on me ?!?!?
Hi yes it should be a similar repair to this one, just take your time and make sure each step is done before moving on to the next step!
Thanks!
Would you need to buff it out with an all in one polish sealant in a day or so?
Was the filler p40 or p38?
Could you tell us what body filler you used in this application? The body filler I used didn't have that nice smooth, buttery look.
Standard car body filler
Amazing video seriously good work there
Nice! Subscribed!
How much time (approximately) did this take from start to finish?
I would say three hours total time!

Do you have to get exact matching paint, or just close...if it's not exactly same do you have to repaint entire bumper?
I assume that if you used a bit of compound on the clearcoat afterwards it would help blend the repair in that bit better?
Yes I sanded the edge the next day with 2000 grit sandpaper and polish until the blend was invisible
Cool. Its a pretty encompassing guide, and well enough presented. Thanks for taking the time.
Down and dirty. Looks great
The wheel repair was good as well.
Thank you.
Cookeh what compound? Over the clear coat?
do you just polish the paint to blend it with the factory paint? And is it a permanent fix?
I now have the confidence to ruin my car 😅. In all seriousness, these videos are brilliant. Thank you.
😂Thanks for watching
Colour looks well but, I have lines between painted parts because I didn’t tape only the bumpers. What should I do?
now this is a NO BULL SHIT Video?!.
surprised that you didn't post affiliate links making it true DIY. kudos.
do however post the products needed- as I see you spoke of PRIMER, FILLER, SAND PAPERS, MASK TAPE, ALCOHOL, SPRAY PAINT AUTO. was it complete?
Also what if a new standard black bumper needs paint on it(matching car manufacturers color) ?? -- is just a direct PRIMER application+ SPRAY PAINT good enough?
glad, if you'd reply. Tada.
Very helpful vid. Great narration. Thanks man.
