    I am at a loss for words. All these years I've wondered how leather is restored & my God. This is just amazing. What a gift. I'm sure it takes years & years of practice to nail the strategy but I'd love to attempt this one day. I think mixing/matching the correct paint color would probably be the hardest part for me, after spending however much money on all the tools necessary to complete the job. Thank you for posting!

    Been doing leather repair for 21 years and this is the first video I can honestly say, well done. I would be interested in the products as well as whether you have to be a franchise to purchase or not. My supplier has become a bit flakey on returning calls and the help I last received for an adhesion issue on newer land rovers was useless at best.
    Your process differs a bit from mine but looks to be very good and professional. Much respect

We would love to help and be grateful if you could email us - info@colourlock.com. We have OEM approvals on our products too which should hopefully give you further confidence.

      @bina nocht really hard to answer without putting my hands on it. For the age of the car I would worry about how dry the leather could be or thin areas of wear. I wish I could give a better answer but without seeing it and feeling it its hard to answer. I've seen 3-4 year old cars look like 40 years of wear as well as the opposite of that.

    • @Camoburb
      @Camoburb ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @bina nocht absolutely do not use any conditioners or especially oils on painted/finished leather. If there are any cracks or raw areas the oil especially will soak into the leather and you will not be able to get a new finish to stick. Some conditioners can make the job very difficult or near impossible. Klasse vinyl, leather, rubber treatment works amazing. However only the clear formula not the milky one.

    • @Camoburb
      @Camoburb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bina nocht I've had a client that oiled his seats and there were areas that the finish was completely worn off so the leather soaked the oil in. Nothing I could do to extract the oil to then get my finish to stick.

    Trust me, this is a great solution when selling a car, but give it a few years and the cracks will return. I bought a '92 W124 in 2016, the front seats looked amazing, now the seats' paint is cracking to reveal the damaged leather below. This is akin to the pre-sale bodywork blow-over many dealers give their cars to present them in the best light. The only way to repair damaged leather as in 0:39 is to replace the panel, otherwise it will be like taking a wrinkled 80-year-old, applying some make-up and expecting them to pass as a 30-year-old for the rest of their days.

    Looks amazing, my question is how durable is this repair. I have a classic car that has a fair amount of patina lines especially on the drivers side. I’m not flipping the car so I’m interested in a long term repair. Will the filler pop out over time?

    In my early 20's I owned a small business specializing in leather/vinyl repair. It's a very rewarding industry, both financially and visually. I loved walking up to a vehicle with destroyed leather seats and say to myself, "I can fix that". The sad reality is for both myself and the unwitting persons who bought those vehicles, was the product only last for a few months at best before the dye's and repair product started deteriorating. After several years I began to feel like I was operating a "scamming" business, knowing full well that every single car that I "repaired" would soon be back to its original state. The only repairs that were permanent were carpet dye and even then, if it's a red stain, it would eventually begin to bleed back through.. I'm now 48, on my third business (sold the other two) and love what I do for a living... I'm sure the automotive repair industry is still alive and thriving, I only hope the products of today hold up better than they did 20+ years ago..
    Great video btw.

    Here in California, you can't find anyone who will do this. They want to simply recover the seats with OEM seat covers from Mercedes. No one has the skill or would take the time necessary to do such quality work. Well done.
