BLACK FRIDAY! WOO! Lots of things are happening at Miniac HQ so here's the big Black Friday post explaining it all: 1. Everything on my webstore is 20% off (even the new stuff). This will be the first time items like The Duchess and the digital course for The Duchess will be on sale since they came out. The same is true for the podcast merch! To get 20% off on teespring, you need to type the coupon code "TUP2020" in at checkout. 2. I have a new shirt and it's not black (for all 3 people that have asked for a nonblack shirt). It represents how your backlog is always trying to literally murder you. 3. The podcast has a new shirt and it's a glorious homage to tendies! 4. I have a PDF guide on how to paint The Duchess! This is great if you aren't sure if the digital course is for you, and you want a smaller investment. 5. International Shipping is cheaper on orders under 1lb! Store: miniac.co/ Podcast: teespring.com/stores/trapped-under-plastic
Just bought the pdf, and I have to say the production quality is top notch! Worth it for the first few pages of technique descriptions alone. I hope it sells well and you consider doing the occasional pdf guide for mini painting in the future.
Hang on, did you say that a static grass applicator is a crazy buy? Didn't you recently purchase a plastic cutter thingy? That you admitted you'll hardly use on your recent trapped under plastic? I picked up a small one for doing bases for around £20, I'm not sure what that is in dollars, but I doubt it's as much as you've spent on some of your toys.
The static applicator I have is the PECO SCENE PSG-3 Pro grass precision applicator. Cheap, and perfect for bases. I put a straightened out paper clip in the crocodile clip to help get the charge where you need it. Highly recommend if you can get it that side of the pond.
I will say one thing, a Dremel would have made a lot of this WAY faster haha. They look awesomet hough. But also... imma make rims dirty, I am bucking the trend. HECK clean base rims.
So true 😆 Yet also makes sense. In miniature, that real stuff just looks... odd, in that scale. But yeah I've taken white things, coated them black, and then worked my layers and brushing up until the final layer was... white again 😛
Hey Scott! I’m not the best painter, nor am I really a comment type of guy. I’m sure you won’t ever see this but I just wanted to say thank you! You’ve really taught me how to paint and you probably had no idea but I’m a huge fan! Keep it moist lol
I've been doing this a lot thanks to your videos. I ignore them entirely lol. But I have been trying to practice basing more and more. Throwing stuff together and using more and more tools and materials I wouldnt normally dare touch. Thanks for the inspiration Scott!
Extremely nice and usable, i like this series! One thing about the static grass: get an empty herb shaker from the kitchen, but look for one that has the big holes. Wash it well and fill it with the grass, and shake it on the base/terrain with glue already on it, from a height. On the way down many of the fibers will straighten up and end up standing. *Still* not as nice as an actual applicator but works better than just with hands. And for the tube city base, for us cheapskates, while you *can* get a lifetime supply of styrene on a plastics supplies place for the price of a small sheet on a hobby store, you can do this on the cheap with cereal box card, drinking straws and the bodies of q-tips.
Oh thank heavens, another base video. You may remember me from the others, these are the best for figuring out how to base my minis (none of which I am certain of anymore). This is an awesome series.
I'm feeling the videos more since you've been doing them because you like them. It's not always my feel, but I get more out of them. Thank you for the infotainment.
Aesthetically I love the Dragon's Lair the most. It's simple and really gets the point across Conceptually I love the football turf base. I don't even play Blood Bowl and I knew exactly what that base was for and additionally I've never seen anyone do that before!
it amazes me how people get so uppity about the base rim not being black, mine are all red because i can't see for shit anymore and it is easier to spot my guys on the table. people get annoyed by this
You might need a PSA about using paper towels on super glue, at 11:24 or so your paper towel starts to smoke (wisps are at the bottom of the screen), it can potentially burn people/set on fire
Scott, I just noticed that you weren't naming the paints you were using and wanted to let you know that I appreciate that! Too many people get hung up on getting the exact same paint, and I think this helps fight that, so thanks!
I would really love to see a video on creating cool 40mm objective markers. I’ve been trying to search for videos on making some and struggling to find something other than banners or horizontal space marines. Please please please
Hi Scott, I’m eagerly awaiting my Blood Bowl set, and I’ve been trying to brainstorm how to make a cool turf for my teams, and your video came in at the PERFECT time. Thanks so much, and keep on doing what you’re doing!
Each of these bases looked pretty good in the intro, but seeing the transition made them way better. Tons of little bits that I didn't notice until I saw you do them. Also, I love how you're just holding a smoking paper towel after soaking up the super glue for the dragon's hoard base. Random craft smoke, nothing to see here
New sub. That swamp base though 👏. I'm inspired to make one just to put a donkey on... ma very own swamp donkey! LMAO. Love your vids man, hope you keep them coming for a long time
Love the football field base! When I've got the right tools and enough experience, I'd like to make an Ork army that are all football fans, so that base would work fantastically with some foot'y boyz!
Great video! I love to paint minis but have always ignored doing anything to my bases, but I really like that Dragon's Lair one. My FLGS carries Green Stuff, hopefully that will work alright instead of milliput.
Cobblestone idea. Cut little pieces of sprue roughly the size of cobblestone tiles but not too thin Put pieces in a rocktumbler and you end up with a ton of little natural looking tiles or stones or anything you want to smoothout. A rocktumbler can be a great way to recycle sprues.
I love your basing videos, they're always cool to see different takes on them! Do you think you could do one for interesting Industrial stuff on your next Four Bases video? I'd love to see your take on them and use it for inspiration for my own work armys
@@Miniac Yeah! Tube City's is great, and definitely something I'll use as reference. My original comment was more along the lines of thinking about something "within a hive city's production assembly line" or a factory: rusted grating and half-working machine parts or switchboards full of wires and pipes with an absurd amount of valves. Something along the lines of the new Dark Tide atmosphere of "in urban enemy territory" if that makes sense? Also: #paintthemrimsblack
So I may have forgotten to say this last night when I originally watched this video. I hope that your family, friends and you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Also, I loved the bases! The "sports, sports, sports!" base it pretty damn cool to me, for some odd reason. I agree that all base rims should always be painted, as well as 99.9% of the time black is the best color for this. However some times other colors are acceptable for the rim color, but it is wholly dependent on the color scheme of the miniature and basing and needs to work across a whole army.
Let me tell ya that swamp base tutorial is gonna be so usefull for tips when i finally get to making a gaming table for my mangrove forest/swamp/jungle tyranids
It looked like all the dirt on the football pitch disappeared when you sprayed it with superglue thin 😂. Whats the name of that circle cutter you used to cut the styrene? It looks cool
As someone who was just banned from using the potato peeler ever again (cheese grater has been banned for years), watching you use the Dremel made my heart rate go up haha! Seriously, these bases are bad ass. I like all your videos, and besides the space marine skit I think the base videos are my favorite

I love the miniature painter mentality - "I shall gather mud, paint it black, and repaint it like mud... genius!" :D
Yeah the thing is though the ‘real look’ makes the model look fake and like it doesn’t belong in the world it’s in.
Cows don't look like cows on miniature bases. You have to use horses.
Or paint wood to look like wood
@@Drew17181. as for dirt, i’ve seen people mix dirt from their back yard with a beige tile grout to lighten the color as needed.

Love this series broski. These are some most worthy bases!

basing is my favorite part. Thanks Scott, great ideas.
I love creative base vids. They are like teeny tiny dioramas and introduce me to new ideas and techniques that can be applied beyond bases. Thanks!
I am so behind you on the clean base rim. So nice to have that crispy finish.
I'm feeling the videos more since you've been doing them because you like them. It's not always my feel, but I get more out of them. Thank you for the infotainment.
I'm always pumped to do stuff after I hear "Paint! More! Minis!". Thanks for the good content as always!
Wow the Samurai Champloo Cut reference is unreal, just locking in my fav youtube content vreator for mini's.
The swamp one was superb! It might be a lil much for some WarHammer dudes but it was like a mini diorama!
Another bases video! Love it! You could release 20 of them and I would love them and keep coming back to them.
Miniac: the tale of the moist black rim.
I am loving this display base series! Your story telling abilities and creativity really shine with each one, can’t wait for MORE 💎
Aesthetically I love the Dragon's Lair the most. It's simple and really gets the point across
Conceptually I love the football turf base. I don't even play Blood Bowl and I knew exactly what that base was for and additionally I've never seen anyone do that before!
People who don't paint the rims of their bases a solid colour emit some real chaotic energy.
it amazes me how people get so uppity about the base rim not being black, mine are all red because i can't see for shit anymore and it is easier to spot my guys on the table. people get annoyed by this
I started with Citadel models, and they always make the rim this brown colour, so I always make them brown out of habit
Love base videos! More please!

That blood bowl theme base couldn't have come at a better time. Just ordered my first team
Was checking the new starter set out tonight myself...

Miniac: "I'm not going to use the airbrush"

Just like when terrain makers say they aren't using fancy tools, then make everything with a hot wire cutter.
@@jeremiahbachmann3901 ugh, like when cooking channels use STOVES! Not everyone has fancy tools like that!
Awesome as always Scott! 👍🏻😊
The Dragon Lair Base looks awesome ! I'm definitelly going to steal that when I get to paint the Dragons from Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter !

Eyyyy bases great timing
Definitely getting some of those gems for treasure chest bases great idea
Love the razored lawn. 🐺❤️
Your basing always inspire me Scott for Paint to Life. I used to ignore the bases but it's like two minis in one! =p
Amazing bases
Was just watching the snow base video. Spoopy
Those nail-art gems look really good. Gotta pick some of those up to make a nice dragon hoard.
Oh man those nail art gems look sooooo good on that base Scott! Solid solid bases, these are my favorite videos of yours.
Awesome video! Giving me a lot of ideas.
These bases look really nice and cool congratulations and keep on going
Razor technique awesome. Will definitely use this when I get some Blood Bowl minis. Keep up the awesome work mate.
That Dragon's Hoard base is incredible. I'm truly inspired to use this for my own pieces, I love it!
Recently ordered Bloodbowl 2020 and that looks like such a fun way to do the bases!
I'm set!
I love your basing videos, Scott!
Your talent never ceases to amaze me and this stuff is incredibly inspiring. Thank you!
Loved this 🖤 perfect black rim every time for me.
Love these bases, expecially the industrial & swamp ones, the latter could be perfect without the trunk for a not-witcher figure!
I'd love to see your talents on a snow base concept!
I liked the bases from this video more than your previous "bases video". Great work! I especially liked the dungeon base, it looks amazing!
That trick with the beard trimmer is so clever!
Nice like the pipe base.
I would really love to see a video on creating cool 40mm objective markers. I’ve been trying to search for videos on making some and struggling to find something other than banners or horizontal space marines. Please please please

Using nail art gems is brilliant! Thanks for the tip. 😁
I love all your videos but I think the basing ones might be my favorites
Crisp base-rims, my dude!
football field base is genius, I've never seen that before with the white line, so easy but so perfect 👌
0:53 😯 Circle cutter, genius.
I love this series! Can you please continue it? Like a new episode every now and then?
Yeah, absolutely. I love doing it!
Reallllly liked that swamp base I must say.

This is awesome. Love the channel, also love blood bowl.

Hey Scott, were you thinking about making a video about putting some minis onto those bases? :)
Holy shit that swamp base. Ooh that water. Hoo baby. Gonna have no problem keeping it moist over here for quite some time
