I have recently come to like clear plastic bses. this is handy because I like to use scenery with my minis and when you are playing in multiple terrain types you can have minis that blend into the local terrain. Nothing looks so bad as having a mini standing on the only piece of paved road in the middle of a field or desert.. I have just done a coupe of lions however that I wanted in a savannah/arid background and sand and some of the grass tufts come up looking really good. I guess it depends on what you are painting, You are unlikely to find lions on a city street
