Hey Scott I was trying to follow your paint guide for the 'eavy Metal series for my Dark Angels. But I have the old Space Marines (not Primaris). Is it just me, or is recess shading with black paint a bad idea to try with the older Space Marines? Seems the proportions are kinda off and its a lot harder to recess shade them, as opposed to the new Primaris Marines. I feel like ink would be a better call for them. Thanks!
@@xMorentz I got the idea to use a paint from an old GW book. Anything is possible if you have the ability to pull it off. That being said, mixing some black ink and black paint would probably be better for old marines and primaris alike.
Mate, your previous pronunciation of UHU-glue was spot on. It's a German company and the German language does not add that "y"-sound to the beginning of the "U" (Admittedly, I was kind of surprised that you pronounced it correctly in the other video). Fun fact, an Uhu is actually a kind of owl that lives all over Europe and Asia, including here in Germany. Also: Great base ideas!
Much love for you and your family. I understand your loss. In the process of losing my mother at the moment. Keep your head up and keep being an absolute legend
cannot describe how much I love these videos, I started a 40k army thinking I wanted to play the game, but totally love hobbying waaayyyyyyy more than playing, don't get me wrong, love playing too, but making my models look dope is the best. These base videos are the shit. Thanks homie.
I really love the idea of the tentacle coming through the base boards, this is perfect for a fantasy pirate theme or even a more sinister Cthulhu type setting. I'd be really interested to see how you would do a batch of bases, perhaps as many as a dozen, to stick to the theme but make them all unique. Another great video man.
I know this is an old video, but on the off chance you see this... next time you tackle any kind of frozen base, try out the GS world liquid pigments. Particularly the pale blue and white ones. with Just some basing sand (prime black) you can add the blue with smaller amount of white. This works as a great base for snow, which you can then add some GS world snow FX to (very different to your regular snow FC, as it looks more icy, as oppose to fresh powder) it's very simple, yet extremely effective way to do a an ice planet base.
Dig the process especially the graveyard side note congrats on the sponsor really liked the way you included it. able to satisfy the sponsor need but not dump us out of the video entirely for the segment.
Hey Scott, love the video. I have a small tip with regards to the slime you made with UHU and paint. I find adding a couple of pinches of baking soda to the mix of paint and glue causes a reaction that makes the mixture thicker and stringier (like thick snot) and thus it is easier to work with. It also makes it harden better when dry.
This and your previous video on basing has inspired me to go beyond standard bases. My wife even wants to try some out. I'd like to see more, so I can learn more about materials and techniques!
I love that your uncle participated in this. I had a nice chuckle, thank you, Bob! Btw: The "Oohoo" pronounciation is the correct one. It's the German word for eagle owl and the company is German. And in Germany they even sometimes use an eagle owl as a mascot.
Don't worry too much about people complaining the project is not "too easy". One can never get better without trying things outside your comfort zone. Keep it up my man.
What is with all mayor mini painting channels uploading how to make bases in the same day? Do you have an agreement or what? hahahaha Love the bases though!
16:00 I also use this technique when I create cables and antennae for tanks/vehicles. So good to see another application for this, never have I thought of creating icicles like this! Love your content
You can rough up the balsa with a wire brush prior to hardening it with CA. I like that rock texture mold idea. And.... the outpost base is pretty cool. You always help me come up with ideas for bases, vignettes and dioramas. As always.... thanks for sharing your knowledge. 👍👍
Great video, love the handy tips on using chipping and the grime, I have both but cant seem to get the chipping to work, your advice is handy now for my next go.
Quick tip for skulls on bases if you have streaking grime at your disposal... paint them bright white.. hit them with streaking grime, and then a dab on the highest point with a q-tip soaked in mineral spirits.. once its dry hit it with some seraphim sepia ( watered down if you dont want the skull to be too grimey ) .. and you'll have a super nice looking, dirty, scenery skull.
I didn't realise it was a German company, so shall have to decide how I pronounce it next time I need to say the word (I live in the UK). Though I'm wondering how 'sepia' is usually pronounced in the USA now - it's see-pee-a here.
For that roll board you got there, watch a few videos how to use a Cavarola 'yes that's a pasta board...' it might teaches you how to create a few weird pasta looking objects. might allows you to make cool shoulder pads or armor plate scales as an addition to rat tails and tentacles.
Love watching your videos, and say hi to Uncle Bob! Thanks for the tips, so much effort to go to for that dirt on the first base but it came out great so can't complain
You don't need alot of terrain starting out. A couple of trees, a signpost, a couple of rocks, a doorway, and a couple of columns will get you through D&D.
This is awesome. Yet I found it weird adding grass to a stone grave. Grass needs soils to grow 🤔. If it was trimmed and darken to look like moss then I think it would look better
My favorite part was the idea of combining the Dimensional Magic with Plaguebearer Flesh to create rain puddles. That was genius to me and I used it on my Harlequin bases. Have you tested how well that combination works compared to Nurgle's Rot? I wonder if they'd be interchangeable or if each has their use.
UHU makes a few types of glue, I really like the version you used. I wanted to get that effect, but was going to try hot glue, this looks so much easier!
When doint bases I always find myself lacking not ideas, but instead the materials to accomplish them. Especially more complex bases need more and more additional stuff as I always go for a theme in bases and try to be elaborate about it. My struggle is focussed around finding the right supplies for the job and more often than not it discourages me, leaving my bases less interresting than they could be.

do you eat flourescent paint? i do tastes like butterscotch
Not pink enough. Is your entire body fluorescent pink? And your clothing? And your eyesight?

Nice! My only criticism is that the tentacle is shaped like a segmented worm. Octopus tentacles are flattened tapered cylinders.
Maybe it's a tentacle from some fantasy creature that doesn't exist in our world!
