We bought our Prime SE in 2022 at sticker price of $42k plus $1k of dealership add-on (people have to eat!). Prime was still eligible for full $7500 EV tax credit, knocking the price down to around $37k. My wife absolutely loves her Rav4. It has plenty of power, embarrassed many loud cars/trucks at red lights take off, more interior room than our old 4runner, AWD and 40 mpg on gas. Wife has a 20 miles ish commute, so she was able to use plug in battery most of time. Electric mode only range is rated at 40 miles, but we can easily get as much as 50. The Rav4 has only been to gas station 3 times this whole year, saves so much time of going to pump gas. Current mpg is sitting at over 120.
This reminds me of the race they had on the American Top Gear. They had 3 police crown vics chasing one minivan. The minivan out ran the police cars. They police only catch people because they have numbers and resources. That's why if you are being chased by one cop and you outrun him before he can call in backup you're going to get away. But once the backup and helicopter shows up you're screwed.
They're not chasing you down a drag strip. There are traffic lights, other cars, turns, etc. which force you to slow down and negotiate obstacles, and the cop is usually the better driver and better at doing that. Not to mention that other cars get out of the cop's way. This is why the cars that actually outrun cops aren't just a little bit faster, they're A LOT faster. Think modified BMW M5 or Chevy Corvette, for example. Or a sports bike.
Plus these days a lot of departments have 'no pursuit' policies because its actually more dangerous in most cases to pursue. The pedestrian deaths and destruction arent worth it. There was a pretty infamous case in my state of a cop losing control in an intersection during a high speed chase and just obliterating some innocent people. It just needs a better transmission…an 8-speed at least. You can have all the power but if you’re not transmitting it efficiently to the wheels you lose on performance.
Rav4 Hybrid owner here, the car gets extremely slow when you’re out of the hybrid battery charge. You don’t get the “combined” advertised power rating when you’re low on the battery, the engine only makes about 170hp or so I believe. And I don’t believe the brake test. Brakes on Rav4s aren’t very good, especially when I have like 3-4passengers onboard in a hot weather. And the durability is very questionable which means it might stop you once, but in a repetitive hard braking situation the brakes will be “cooked” fast and the stopping distance is god knows. Mine is 22 with 30k mls on it, practically every plastic panels squeaks and rattles. Took it to dealer for service, they confirmed the complaint and kindly declined the repair saying “yeah Toyota won’t pay for this unless something is actually mechanically broken”. What kind of new car warranty from factory won’t cover their poorly made vehicle? And lastly unless you drive like a grandma or a Prius drivers who pisses off other drivers on the road, you don’t get the EPA fuel economy. And it gets worse if you drive at a highway speed of 75+, but in my area in Southern California people’s usual travel speed is 80-90. If I do Vegas to LA trip I normally get below 26mpg on average because of the higher speed. Unless your religion is Toyota and you believe in your “Yoda” I highly suggest you to choose something else. There are so many better cars out there that you can get for Rav4 money.

Nathan, you should have performed a PIT manuever on the Prime! Show Andre who's the boss! Ha ha
The Toyota rav4 would have dodged that
No Charger is ever performing a PIT on a Rav4 Prime.
Definitivamente la Rav4 es más calidad y por mucho💪🏼
So we can use a Rav4 Prime to outrun the cops. Nice!
You guys forgot something.
police cars are heavy -- about 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) heavier than their civilian counterparts. Rifles, computers, storage, etc..
Let’s see where this model rav4 is 10+ years later. If you can pick one up to the comparable charger. Price and mileage that all works with no major repairs. Not even saying one that’s been abused like the dodge.
Literally the 2nd quickest Toyota in the lineup behind the Supra
Faster than the four cylinder Supra too
Supra is just a rebadged BMW. So Rav4 is the fastest Toyota.
You may be faster than a police car but the police have something you don't have and that's a radio that talks to a bunch of other police car's !!!!!!!!
What about the fastest car in the world would that outrun the radio?
45 seconds in....battery discharge is affected by temperature, not altitude. And AWD slows it down, consuming engine power through excessive drag.
150k of getting the brakes beat out of it.
Will you guys please get a new charger rt rwd and put it up against the police car it is freakishly slower than i think it should be. I understand the elevation change but something isn't right. Would be a fun video.
yup. a vehicle running a 15 1/4 should not be beating a hemi no matter what year it is, the slowest 1/4 i’ve ever ran in my 5.7 when it was stock was low 14s
@@bloodshed3523 exactly something isn't right with that one. Its not just elevation
Just wait until TFL gets their hands on the 3.0 ecoboost Explorer Interceptor to drag race. It's insanely fast for an suv.
And the RAV4 Prime will still be faster a mile above sea level.
That RAV4 is against laws of phisycs
That guy should tell Dominic Toretto that his Rav4 can beat him in a quarter mile. Like WTF. A grandpa's SUV outruns a cop car now? BS.
That’s a Rav 4 PRIME PHEV.
I’m sure it is because my 4cyl Explorer would beat it. Is there not an extra camera so we can actually hear both of you
Why is that so sad to me lmao
They’re either there’s something mechanically wrong with that Dodge or the guy doesn’t know how to drive it. Those charges with the hemi in it are fast as hell no way that RAV4 outruns it!
Boy tht charger must be worn out my 2021 RT runs 5.2- 0-60 and low 13s in a quarter bone stock, not unless the awds are slower than the rwds ones
The police Chargers are usually awd 5.7s and they have an absolute ton of equipment in them which adds a lot of weight. My neighbor is a county sheriff and I've not been impressed with his old car at all. My Challenger SRT 392, totally different story...
@@cybershanksDoesn't matter. The one is in video is stipped down. Why even write such an ignorant comment??
the 5 speed trans they have is also a big let down compared to the newer 8 speed the normal ones get.
I mean it just heavy, especially the PI. The explorer eco pi is quicker except to 30mph, even top end and lap times. Although the charger is still the second best standard PI
Wow this was fun to watch. $50k is alot but how much is the charger go for ?
5k?
Mid 40s new for police interceptors is what is sticker
I paid $38,000 for my 2021 Rav4 Prime SE and got a $7500 tax break so I really only paid $30,500.
@@pbear216Unfortunately the tax credit is no longer in effect, as of August 2022. The law changed and requires vehicles to undergo final assembly in the US, but the Rav4 undergoes final assembly in Japan.
I just bought a used 2021 Rav4 Prime XSE for close to 40k.
I police cruiser has hundreds of pounds of gear and sometimes reinforced everything. This would hinder acceleration greatly. I wish my RAV4p's had an adjustable sport mode, better tires, but not low profile tires. I'm going to drive the factory rubber off before I swap them out. LOL
General Altimax RT45's and never look back. I am an aggressive driver and get about 60,000 miles out of a set. Stock tires lasted 17,000....
Should have done an agility test with the cones and timed.
Failed the moose test😢
@@DUNGSTAthat was the initial 2019 model. It was later fixed and the prime does a lot better too with the lower center of gravity.
“We test the every man car”, says TFL right after posting the NSX Type S video 😂
"man car"
Yeah, a 50K$ car with a 3 years waitlist is clearly "every man car"
So you are telling me that the 40,000 people who bought their RAV4 Prime in August were all waiting for 3 years? Wow there are a lot of very patient people out there.
😂 What we are dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law…
Love when the boys let there guard down and swear. Feels more honest and fun. Cheers guys love all your content.
Yeah bs the Rav has less power, more weight, and worse aero....I understand you have to make car companies look good to keep getting cars, but come on
Rav4Prime vs Grand Highlander Hybrid Max would be a good race to watch
Japanese technology against good ole boy technology. No surprise here.
And when that hemi is still running after 30 years, and that rav has rusted into oblivion, Good old Japanese technology, there will still be no surprise
@@Welcometofacsistube lol I think you mean the other way around…
That 5.7L needs a complete rebuild and a supercharger...
What other cars would you consider instead of your RAV? Is yours a Prime?
"Technology is expensive", that tech isn't anymore than your phone in your pocket, and a 1990 Rav4. Great video guys.
I guarantee that would not outrun the new hybrid ford explorer.
Dodge Hornet phev would have been a better race...
15.07 quarter mile.. Definitely not beating a police car unless it is basically broken.
Wow impressive. I know what imma buy next. V8s are dead. I want a rav 4. Its the all around better vehicle now 😂
You're stupid 😂😂😂
V8s are so overrated. Dont know why people still buy them 😮
Their masculinity is tied to the noise their vehicle makes
Guessing neither of you have experienced a healthy v8..
@@cybershanksBunch of simp babies they are 😂😂😂
@@cybershanks just HD diesels, the 5.7 Chevy v8 from the 90s, and a hemi. But I can’t ignore the new Tacoma hybrid coming out with more horsepower and almost double the torque of those old V8s with double the mpg as well.
A 4 cylinder hybrid just smoked a V8 dodge 😂😂😂
Take all the door off the Charger like they do in the ghetto and give it another go !
Do a slip test withthe prime
Excuses, that RAV4 would of one anywhere, new or old
“Would of one”. Lil bro probably dropped out of middle school with those grammatical errors. 😂
If you buy a RAV-4 for $50k ( Not even lunar rock 😂) YOU ARE THE PROBLEM
The hemi down on power by a lot lol
This is bat shit crazy comparison but I love it!
Toyota FTW
What have i just witnessed?
Lol is April fool’s day!?
So should cops trade in their charger for RAV4 ! Faster and easy on gas. Not to mention more donuts from all the fuel savings. 😮
Can’t outrun Motorola though lol
Rav4 🔥🔥🔥🔥 dodge sports car 🤣🤣🤣
That motor has way more than 150,000 miles. That car probably averaged 6 hours every day just idling.
Yeah that thing is dying with a low ass compression test
@@Ak47777-lWould ve been a better test if it wasn't dying
Second fastest accelerating Toyota passenger car. Turbo 6 cylinder Supra is quicker.
Doesn’t surprise me I’ve smoked a newer charger with my 04 Nissan Pathfinder upto 100 then overtook him he decided to speed up to stop me passing him doing 30 in a 60 zone didn’t work the ol 4.0 has some get up and go
😂I mean that charger is tired, beyond that it's old tech. The only thing fast that will always outrun a non PO vehicle is their communications. Spike strips couple miles out. & your car is toast, then met with 100 PO & if you look anything other then you 2. Well empty EVERY GUN & NEVER ASK ANY ? - Look like either of you. Well then you'd be miraculously Saved, EVEN IF YOU BOTH SHOT 1ST! & BOTH would be described as mentally disturbed. Needing a pysch hospital instead prison
I can attest that my Rav4 Prime is way faster than a Charger
$50K for a Rav4. A fool is born everyday.
It's a retired cop car at altitude with150k miles. How about testing a fresh cop car :)
v8 police car has been certified now that it is retired? That it runs as when it was in service? I would still prefer the growl of a real car with yummy fumes!
