Just sometimes maybe like 5 or 6 times I’ve noticed the battery gauge on the dash low. And yes that threw some red flags temporarily. But then it went back up to 3/4 later in the day. To me I’m just riding it until the battery shits and then I may look for a slightly newer Toyota used. To be honest I haven’t replaced the spark plugs since I bought it. I’m replacing them today after watching the spark plug episode yesterday. I got the premium plugs cause that’s what was in the car. My mechanic couldn’t believe it. He’s like u haven’t replaced any spark plugs ? Idk to me if it’s running fine don’t mess with it. Look, you can't just drive in EV mode all the time. Any Toyota mechanic will tell you this. The car must be driven in combo mode to save the battery and the gasoline from "spoiling". Yes, gasoline will spoil! Lastly, you can't recharge the battery every night or it will degrade over time. It must be charged intermittently and not "overcharged". That is, it must be turned off (unplugged) after about 6 hours. Just search TH-cam for the "The Car Car Nut" and he will explain how to charge/take car of Toyota hybrid and Prime RAV4s in one of his informative videos.

@@randy74989 I am well aware that there are technicalities. Even with some hybrids that are easy on gas, people have had tanks start to go bad if they don't go through it quickly enough.
This is the only downside to TH-cam comments - I try not to make them too long-winded, which means not adding big long technicality footnotes to a general statement.

I’ve had my RAV4 Prime XSE for almost 11 months now and used maybe 3 gallons of gas total! Toyota advises to use at least 5 gallons a year to avoid “stale” gas, so I’m going on a Sunday drive in the country soon. I get an average 50 miles on a full charge, exceeding the advertised range of 42. Absolutely no issues whatsoever! Definitely the “best of both worlds”. The Chevy volt would run “engine maintenance” if you haven’t used gas recently and it would run the engine for a small amount of time to keep gas from getting stale. I wish the prime did that but not a major issue.

I currently drive a 2013 plug in Prius, and am picking up a 21021 RAV4 Prime next week. Living on a mountain like I do, ANY previous vehicle, with a manual or auto tranny, was always searching for the right gear. My CVT tranny in the Prius (I assume the 4 will work the same) eliminates that issue. Driving the Prius up the mountain, after 40 years up here, works better than anything else.

Makes a lot of sense as a transitional vehicle to electric. In Chicago I'd never use the gas, even if I lived up to about 20 miles out in the burbs instead of the city itself. Run on gas for out of town trips where the still-slow pace of charging gets in your way. Enjoy the towing which is much better on this than a standard RAV4. And Scotty notes the traction issue on this; it probably needs bigger brakes and definitely better tires.

SCOTTY - Our 2018 Prius hybrid averaged 60.4 mpg on a recent 130 mile Interstate 20 trip from Kilgore, TX to Dallas at 65 -70 mph. Breaking hard in bunched up traffic I kept battery level high so I could run electric at those speeds, unless on an upgrade. EPA states Prius can only go 20 or so miles full electric yet used intermittently if you monitor usage, I used only about 2 gallons of regular for the trip.

Performance is quite good right out of the gate but being a tuner at heart I plan on doing some basic upgrades that will improve on what is there for reasonable cost in both the handling and power department. Granted it will never be as fast as my Mitsubishi Evolution but for a year round daily driver that can do it all it's hard to beat.

Got a rav 4 adventure. As much as I would love the extra horsepower on the regular road, I still prefer having a sport mode as it drives far better and different off road traction features. And as he said, the car has more horsepower but it is basically a front wheel drive car. The rav 4 adventure has a little less than 2000 more pounds of towing capacity which comes in handy for me. Prime only has about 1700 pounds of towing which is really nothing different than the 2018 rav 4 le. So one thing I like is the different options that Toyota provides with the models people already love. I absolutely love the rav 4 line up and when I had the money, I traded my rav 4 le 2018 for the 2021 adventure. Very happy with it too. It has about 30-40 more horsepower than my LE and far more towing capacity. I know it sounds dumb to toe with a rav 4 but the rav 4 is my daily driver and once in a while I do have to tow something like a tool box or even a small camper.
