From my experience I would say Sombra was most broken right after her healthpack ult charge rework and right before the release of Brigitte. This was around March 2018. After that the Grav Dragon combo was dominant and Brigitte was soon after.
I think it would've been important to mention that in the Bastion Ironclad days, the 50% DMG reduction cap didnt exist yet. So with nano he had 85% DMG reduction and could tank a DVA bomb on top of his head
It should also be mentioned that it was more like two months before bastion was changed for console. It was the year me and several friends dropped off the comp system due to this frustration.
As a Original Genji main I need to add that the reason that made him really potent at the beginning, was not really the bigger deflect hitbox, mobility and so on, but the fact that all of these things were working with a character that could cancel every of his animations to do instant 1HK combos that, when executed perfectly, basically meant that he could inflict 200+ damage instantly, back to back until he failed to kill someone.
Oh yea, I remember back when I press right click, melee, and dash at the exact same time, doing 164 melee damage and 1 tapped tracer with zero skill, making her the least played hero in genji meta xD No head shot required, just all body shots. Head shots made genji the most OP high ceiling heroes, giving birth to the likes of seagulls who then gets genji nerved hard.
just because scatter "could" 1 shot a zarya randomly doesnt mean it was even close to ass good as pre nerf storm arrow. dishing out a consistent 480 damage from body shots every what 6 seconds is retarded. any damage boost/headshot added to the point even further. he could kill legit any character in the game in a few seconds and no aiming.
The problem was that Scatter was on a 10-second cooldown, meaning that Hanzo could only potentially do something every 10 seconds. This was because his arrows were slow as shit, and his Sonic Arrow was just awful; it had a whopping 20-second cooldown. The only reason he was played at all outside of throwing, was because of his Scatter
@@charKT-7461 Being able to do something as close as eliminate a whole as tank/sup with a single ability every 10 sec is OP as fuck wdym? Imagine, you are in a 6v6 and a hanzo just hit one of your sups, with scatter, it´s enough to literally destroy your chances, eliminating a shieldess rein, a zarya on full HP. It IS op. No matter whatever the problems you wanna get it.
@@gIV-EN I wasn't around at that time but wasn't that possible only in doorways and closed spaces in general? also wasn't it super predictable since that was all hanzo did anyways and you could just bubble it?
yeah ive been playing hog since beta and he was strongest with 4 shots and broken hook, u could one shot anyone but the tanks and even then u still could shred them like paper
The problem was that he had garbage survivability though. His vape did nothing if you didn't use it 50 meters away from the enemy, and you turn into a target dummy coupled with an all-powerful ult battery. Yes he had stupid one-shots, but todays Hog is far better with much better survivability and still a very consistent one-shot on almost all characters.
40:40 Can't believe you forgot the fact that you didn't need vision of the target for Zenyatta's orbs. You could just throw a harmony orb on Genji, and then he could just run around the map with it.
Blows my mind that people want that change for zen. If supports hate being killed by doom genji and tracer why would you want to make them twice as strong?
@@kinderx16_38 to be fair, zenyatta had 150 hp back then and 100 of it was shield. his movespeed boost also didn't exist when ulting. if you were picking zenyatta it was *exclusively* to put orbs on people and fuck off. it's not even just about twice as strong. he was making someone else twice as good at the cost of his own fun.
@@Ferrichrome you know what unobstructed vision on harmony orb would do to supports? Make that one annoying genji or sombra or reaper even more annoying to deal with when they flank you from behind and got healed by 50/s without needing direct line of sight from enemy zen. It was broken AF. Today, those annoying flanker wouldn't have 50/s heal, and of course, remove that annoying "I need healing" genji scream, cuz now he must come to my LoS to get healed instead of calling me noob for not healing him from 15000 light years away from behind 50000 planets.
I think roadhog was at his strongest when you could literally be hooked across the map. The old hook used to be the reason hog was so good, and that shit was annoying af
Man he hooked your ass through dimensions 😂 If you're familiar with Dota2 felt like the Navi TI fountain hooks. If you aren't I highly recommend you look it up and you'll see what I mean immediately lol
Hell yea I remember me and my friends would win comp games with 5 support and 1 roadhog. Then again we weren’t really the highest rank so maybe that’s why it would work lol
Yeah but he also had to stand completely still while using his vape and it didn't reduce damage, or build you ult charge. I think that alone makes him worse.
It's definitely debatable about D.Va's strongest state but I remember 200hp/400armor with 4 second defense matrix Dva and her just being an unkillable murder bot.
I think dva was the strongest at end of season 2 and season 3 dva went from 100hp/ 400 armor to 200hp /400 armor and got a movementspeed buff while shooting. The reason being her primary fire tho. Her primary has slower firerate, but more dmg per bullet. Her matrix back then was 4 sec, but projectiles had to travel 1m to get absorbed. Resulting in Zarya being able to just grav the ground or things like Reaper ult would go throw left and right. Back then triple tank + soldier, Ana and zen was the meta on most maps. Then she got a primary fire nerf and the matrix buff where she absorbs everything and dive became meta. But I think dva was strongest before that.
As a partial D-Va main during those times I agree, being able to outright delete 90% of the ults and abilities in the game nearly made her a must pick for playing seriously.
Bro I remember the actual disgusting nerf Orisa got even after the shield changes. 7.5 meters to something like 3m iirc. Nerf to Fortify and her shield while giving her 25 extra armor. Legitimately the only time I’ve ever seen an Overwatch hot-fix because someone was dumpstered TOO hard.
@@VVheeli ohhhhh then you don't remember the massive hog nerf, where they made him the WORST character in the game. He couldn't one shot anyone, couldn't move while healing, and still took full damage in heal.
I feel like symmetra was most busted in the start, tracking laser, along with stackable shield generator, so when u could have a team of one hero in quick play, the whole team could go symm, find a place to hide six shield generators and u could just have a team of 1000 health symmetras that didn’t need to aim. Not to mention u had SIX wall turrets to just completely canvas a choke
That was her first rework which happened 8 months after launch, not at launch actually. At launch she didn't have Shield Generator, she had an active ability called Photon Shield that you aimed at a friendly and activate to give them (iirc) 25 shield HP. That got changed later (in the patch she got her first rework) and got replaced with projected barrier called Photon Barrier that if used well was incredibly useful. Let you close on people in a straight line safely, could save yourself and/or others from D. Va bomb, go through chokes safely, etc. On the down side, she only had 3 sentry charges instead of 6 and the CD for them was 12 seconds instead of 10, and her Teleporter was her only Ult, and had limited charges.
The strongest state of Sombra was absolutely when hacked healthpacks gave ult charge. I really don't see how anyone could argue otherwise. You could farm EMP incredibly fast and get a guaranteed teamwipe with little coordination.
If you are up to the task, I'd love to see every characters worst state. The big one I remember is when they absolutely gutted Roadhog. Nerfed his damage so he couldn't one shot anyone, he couldn't move while healing and took full damage in said heal, literally any obstruction (shit like potted plants and street signs included) would break the hook, and finally hooked targets where further away from him.
I feel like the best version of Bastion was easily back in beta when he has is own dang shield, and if I remember correctly he could even headshot while in turret mode
Dude, as a bastion otp with 3 accounts at 3.9 it's a shame hes so shit, he's so fun but so bad, and Jake a no bastion players put in to the new experimental patch where he can't go turret mode, made him a 100mag soldier76, this hero is in such a bad state that they havent tried to buff in properly since 2017 and instead are giving him a shit rework, bastion needs to be able to move in turret as a perma thing not on CD and he'll be fine, i checked the other day 2 people play bastion in top 500 out of 3 regions, but ashe tracer pharah and mcree are in the hundreds
@@nasserkhalid619 The creator experimental patches are definitely more for fun, thankfully, and since we already know what's happening to Bastion in OW2, Jake is probably just messing around with it for fun. Like removing Sigma Shield lol
@@nasserkhalid619 they need to nerf the damage or ammo count or something if he's gonna have turret mode at all times IMO, he sucks at high ranks but is near impossible to counter on certain maps in lower ranks, and that's because focus fire isn't as prevalent in lower ranks, and only a handful of characters can solo kill a Bastion especially if he has teammates helping him, the damage reduction on his turret mode is fucking annoying, it's necessary for him to work in his current state (and he still doesn't work) but it's annoying as shit to play against I personally think he should get turret mode as his ultimate, give him one mag of ammo and increase the ammo count, make his ult do a crazy amount of damage, like, he could just use his ult to burn through a Sym wall Then make his current ult (tank mode) a cooldown ability but does less damage, I like his tank modes mobility and think he should get it more often so he can get in cool spots more often without wasting an ult I agree the new rework doesn't look great. They need to change his playstyle, bunker comps need to be removed from the game, make bunker characters more mobile and less tanky and they'll be more fun IMO
The Hanzo that could clear a room with one shot, combined with the recon arrow that lets him see through walls… he’d get potg without anyone even knowing that he’s there
I thought symmetra was the best back during her first rework. I loved her new moving shield that slowly moved at the same rate as her run speed, it was when her turrets were first able to be sent flying, and her beam was both lock on and after holding it out longer the beam would get bigger and absolutely destroy health bars. I still wish she was able to keep that shield though because I loved that thing.
Eish, I didn't remember anymore that Symmetra had a moving shield! I loved to play symmetra due to my bad aim.. And the "rainbow" turret in Eichenwalde? I miss those times xD
@@Dman40000 don't, he's obviously getting something out of it. But he's not doing it for the reward, otherwise he would've move on from OW to get bigger rewards. Which is why I respect him so much. It says a lot about his personality and it's great to have someone like him on the platform. Contrary to many greedy youtubers how don't give a crap about anything but stats and results to get as much in their pockets as they can.
In my opinion, the most dominant Genji period was where his dash could cause damage over time (similar to Ashe's Dynamite) after piercing through an enemy.
Fun fact - that's actually a feature (and maybe an easter egg) in HOTS. HOTS Genji has 2 talents: 1 - If you hit enemies with the point of your dash, they get bleed for 2 seconds I think 2 - after you dash, you leave a shade behind that dashes second time, so you can deal damage 2 times from E
That never made it to live though, so I wouldn't say it was dominant. Genji's most dominant period was 8s Blade and Zenyatta Discord meta in S2. Then his second most dominant period was dive right before Brig was released, though he had lower priority than Tracer.
It's honestly weird to see someone so into OW, nobody I know still plays it or talks about it and despite how neglected the game is nowadays by the devs, its still lots of fun to play and watch. Thanks man
@@ProdLucio same, it's especially annoying in comp matches. I'll play zen, and have gold medals on hero damage, elims, objective kills, and healing despite 3 of my teamates being dps characters. And, between her sleep and discord. It's rare a single character can kill one of us by diving. But, unfortunately she can't hop on much anymore lol.
When Sigma was released I was a high Platinum tank player. Sigma was so overpowered I was able to climb from plat to mid-masters, and at times was in games with GM and Top500 players and still able to contribute to winning. He was unbelievably broken so much that when they finally nerfed him I dropped way down to low Diamond and haven’t played Overwatch since
I feel like most dlc characters were probably strongest on release as theyre never balanced well then and go through tons of changes, mostly nerfs. Also while the -25% ult charge passive is really good, shoulda gone for the memes with hog hooking characters from entirely different maps with hook 1.0
Honestly convinced they do this on purpose to keep hype up. I think they were mentally scared from launching Sombra in such a weak state that no one played her for like a whole 6 months to a year and everyone was aggressively underwhelmed by her.
@@spookysushi4079 auto aim tracking is BS no matter what. Imagine the stress of being a hanzo or even a mcree and absolutely HAVING to hit that headshot or else Moira guaranteed kills you. Stress levels against Moira goes through the sky as a hanzo main.
Yeah, the only thing that even comes close is Moth meta Mercy in terms of hero that was the most broken ever. But it's still not a contest. Moth Mercy made one-shots the only viable strategy. Brigitte changed everything, and it took a format change and 2 years to break free of that... and even *_then_* what she started just never ended until OW2 launch ate 90% of the egregious CC and shielding. I've heard some people say that OW2 should bring Brig back in her launch state. The fools have no idea what they speak.
@@trevorveillette8415 Moira's right click doesn't have autoaim, its a "Beam" like Zarya and Symmetra's primaries, the size of Moira's beam is just bigger than the other 2. And complaining about a support that has worse DPS than other supports and the rest of the cast is simply a skill issue.
I miss Symmetra 2.0 She was the most fun to play around that time and her 3.0 rework never sat right with me. Plus, I just miss that shield generator, I didn't always need a teleporter.
@Mr Jayboo I mean, both old sym and mei was fun only for sym and mei main. But for literally everyone else, it was complete ass. Complete and utter ass to play against. Torb, sym, and mei was the apex of toxic gold rank tier trio me and my friends used to spam in games and got to diamond so easily. Made the enemies tilted like crazy and made some of the most questionable plays, like picking winston and jumping far to a choke point just to clear out sym turrets, then left his team died to madness inducing mei+torb turret combo. It was not fun to play against those heroes back then.
@Mr Jayboo well, idk about torb, I only play in competitive mode, but mei and sym are both fairly balanced to dealt with when compared to back then. No longer I have to be afraid of freezing to death so quickly, I can actually juke around sym's attacks instead of having an absolute timer of death because zero aiming was needed for old sym. While playing them myself still feel nice, though not as nice/easy as before, I do feel it's a lot more fair for everyone else who're not mei/sym.
@Mr Jayboo mei and sym are absolutely not worst than they used to be, though torb is definitely better but that's because they put the strength into the player, instead of the turret like it used to be.
Genji also had the tech to cancel his melee with a shift strike, making his combo RMB->Melee-Shift->RMB combo insanely fast and strong. They later on nerfed the combo by adding a delay from being able to instantly shift strike from melee.
I was going to comment this as well. As a Genji main (I branched out to hitscan too I promise I’m not *that* Genji main lol) the melee cancel shift change was a huge nerf IMO. The optimal way to do it became right click, Shift, turn around 180•, melee. There was enough time that people could get healed in the middle of the combo, and it was riskier since you had to use your mobility option mid combo instead of at the end when you could guarantee the kill. Prior, if you RMB, melee and you noticed they aren’t low enough to kill, you could hold onto your shift until they were lower on health or in case the enemy team turned around and you needed to bail. It’s hard to explain, but something about shift being the last hit of the combo just made it less risky in general. With it being the middle hit, you don’t have any mobility options left if you don’t get the kill for some reason, and it’s easier to miss the melee since you usually have to turn around first.
@@m0002856 I think what made him so strong was also how early the game was. There was less counters to him and less stuns allowing him to take teams out easily. I used to main genji, bastion, and tracer for dps and genji was so busted during triple jump and I would never really enjoy him after the change
One thing I wanted to add when you were talking about Widow was her scope out animations could be canceled which meant repositioning after taking shots was very quick and smooth making her harder to hit back. It wasn't until after she was nerfed that you could no longer cancel the scope out animation and it slowed her way down and it feels a lot clunkier than it used to.
I personally feel as a Lucio main that his most “broken” state was after that short-lived patch where he had a speed boost that ramped up coming off of each wall ride and you could literally wall ride across a map like Eichenwald in 3 seconds while soaring through the air like Pharah.
dont forget, original genji’s deflect automatically went back to the shooter. so instead of how it is now where all the bullets go where you’re looking and all at 1 target; it would go back to the person who fired. so less damage across the board, but you also didn’t have to aim
I still remember, I had never really been interested in brig but then I played her in a mystery heroes game and started popping off. This intrigued me so I continued to play her in quick games, then main her, take her to comp and purchase my very first golden weapon, being hers. I was then mortified about a month afterwards to witness her receive nerf after nerf after nerf after nerf.
Eh I think Junkrat’s strongest state was when the second Concussion mine was first added cause back then it had no splash fall-off so it would 120 damage ANYWHERE in its radius and you had 2 of them.
Pretty good coverage. I remember most of these headaches. You may have forgotten a couple; Auto aim melt on Symmetra with 5 turrets, or her shield for the whole team And hog's hooks yoinking you around corners
Also for Hanzo you could damage boost him during his ult. When combined with grav it was guaranteed kills as it could cut through/nullify any support ult.
@@iloveicecoldwaterCorrect it won’t be able to be dmg boosted, believe the game treats his ult as a constructible. However I’m not sure if you can still dmg boost the initial arrow for it (not that it’s practical)
The problem with suggesting launch Zarya being the best, was that her weapon was bugged where unless you kept the beam on enemies consistently, it didn't do damage, even if the beam touched enemies for a millisecond. Once they changed it so that it was easier to deal damage more consistently, THAT was when she was the best.
@@AnimeReference Did you play at launch? Her beam was not consistent at all. Hell, it was patched TWICE in an attempt to correct the issue where you could have the beam on an enemy but because you didn't have it on them long enough, it didn't do any damage. I noticed a massive difference in the amount of damage I was able to do after the first time they patched it.
@@Fools_Requiem I almost forgot about that but yeah, you are absolutely correct. I remember how weird the beam would feel back then. That patch that finally fixed the issue made her gameplay feel so good and how it was supposed to be. Thank you for reminding me, man, this makes me really nostalgic, haha ...
I feel like "strongest state" should be relative to the meta at the time, not raw numbers. Like Cassidy way back was able to outsnipe widow, he dominated high level matches much more than 225 hp mccree.
He absolutely did not. The 225 health pool meant a HUGE difference for tons of matchups. He could tank 2 dragonblade swipes, 3 storm arrows, and overall just had that little extra survivability which could straight up win him matchups. Coupled with flashbang and the stronger damage breakpoints made him broken
One thing that you didn’t mention about Zarya that in my opinion makes release not her strongest state is that nearly every movement ability used to be able to escape grav (eg tracer blink, genji dash, even rein charge I think). Even though you got gravs more often they weren’t as good as they are now. Plus the weird way her laser used to pulse damage made it pretty unreliable, so she played more like a projectile character. I think her strongest was immediately after these two changes (though the energy nerf did happen first), before or all the further ultimate cooldown changes
Junk is still the remaining the most broken hero in the game. So extremely frustrating to get killed from around 4 corners by a random ricochet bomb...
Id like to point out that hanzos scatter arrows could 1 shot heroes with up to 450 health, or instantly shave 450 health off tanks. Personally, as a hanzo main, i think that was his most broken state.
Imagine an experimental card just with every hero going back to their best state as mentioned in the video. That would be insane Or better yet take the best each individual stat has ever been, regardless of what the rest of the kit looked like in that patch. Just have very character OP as fuck
I just barely realized the "Call Mech" ult symbol is D.Va's mech with an arrow pointing down through it. I thought it was lightning or something random like that this whole time. 😂
@@voiceofreason2674 That's because Moira's healing is absolutely nuts. Lucio's aura is basically just harmony orb to your whole team, and that's not much. Lucio's role is very limited in todays meta. He only really has a use in brawl comps that utilize his speed boost, and his speed boost is really the only reason you'd ever want a Lucio. He's not a very versatile hero
Winston was his most strongest back when his leap was bugged and did full dmg in the entire radius instead of doing less the farther away you were away from the target. This meant you could burst enemy squishes very easily and do so from safer distance and some interesting angles. You could also abuse this to jump into deathballs to finish building ult extremely quickly and do a massive amount of burst for your team push. Not many people took advantage of this outside of pro players and a few monkey mains such as myself
11:49: Volume of a sphere of radius 8 is 2144.66m cubed. Volume of a sphere radius 6 is 904.78. Radius 8 actually covers a huge amount more volume of space
2018-19 was something else. Mercy, brig, snipers, etc. And I still strongly remember how broken sig was on launch. 1500 hp shield, no cooldown, couldnt get hooked during grasp or flailed, ult wasn't affected by cc, had the one shot combo, and the accretion stun. Not only sig, but I remember all of these. Seems like every hero at one point was good or really good.
Torb was in his prime when he had the armor packs. I remember gathering and stacking them on already strong more stationary heroes like bastion to make them practically temporarily invulnerable on top of already strong healing. Plus, his level 3 turret just destroyed enemies from decent range and all he had to do was press Q.
Yea but he was worthless in a fight. His pistol sucked and he moved slow. As a winston main I had to learn to not just instinctually dive on him cuz he could actually duel decently after they reworked him
Some of these are debatable. Their numbers might be better but like sym used to have this ultra long range beam that could bend around corners sticking to people along with her 6 turrets. Her ult was lame but sometimes you could pull off getting your entire team teleported from spawn to enemy spawn
Someone should make a workshop mode that sets up all of the heroes to their strongest points just so we can see how it would play if everyone was in their prime compared to now.
@@roanwolf6389 - Nope. His name is Cassidy now, and going forward he will *always* be Cassidy. The new name is here to stay forever. Sorry you're Big Mad that he's no longer glorifying a scumbag, but you need to get used to it.

This video has made me realise that my mains in all 3 roles (Winston, tracer and luicio) are the least changed characters in the game. Maybe im just nostalgic for the old overwatch. Well that or maybe they just dont need to change the more mobile characters because they balance themself as people get better.
Lucio is probably not fair. The aura radius reduction and main weapon damage increase constitute a massive change in playstyle. 1v1ing someone and flanking used to always be considered throwing until the changes legitimized that playstyle.
@@AnimeReference I mean you have a point, but id argue the difference in playstyle is more a change in meta over the years. The only reasons that heal botting was a viable strat before was because the only character that did more healing than him was mercy.
The reason Widowmaker was so broken at launch was the fact that scoping in and out had no delay versus staying scoped so you could rapid fire full charge shots by quickscoping meaning you didn't even need to hit headshots because she was 2 shooting to the body so fast enemies didn't have time to react or reposition.
The reason sombra was insane during that era was cause she could gain ultimate charge from teammates using her hacked healthpacks, giving her so much ult that u can ult about 6-7 times in a 2cp map fight
Couple of corrections half way in: Genji's blade used to do 120 dmg per blade hit instead of 110 Sym's beam was either 50% larger before or over 100% larger before depending on how beams work. 0.3/0.2 = 1.5 or 0.3*0.3*pi / 0.2*0.2*pi = 2.25
You forgot about Genji’s super high dmg combo: Shuriken Melee Dash. Dash was capable of interrupting the melee animation back then, so 1 combo and any 200health hero was down. Great vid tho :)
Granted I had a great time watching and being educated by all of this, as I do find all of this genuinely interesting, and gives me certain things to be aware of moving onward with each patch.. however, I can’t not acknowledge how 20/10 the background music for each person has been 😌👌.
I still remember scatter arrow being replaced by storm arrows and everyone being so glad about scatter finally being gone when storm arrows damage potential made him so much stronger in the hands of a good player. Still miss scatter arrow to this day even if I stopped playing the game a while ago.
I did not expect to see my video on the sigma portion as an example :D. But I agree, back then it was really dumb that even if you hit him with hard cc, it never cancelled his ultimate and considering back then it also had insanely fast lift... there was no time to react before he got a free lift. Release sigma was truly broken af and turned me off from tanking. I do think that current tracer version is better than ever before, despite not having as strong pulse bomb, just because of that blink change where she can now travel vertically far better than before and it makes her a menace in flanking.
@@excaliburblaze3258 how? lol just stay next to a healer and rotate your cool downs and the mf is inmortal, tank with odd hitbox, infinite primary, best shield in the game, stunt, flying ultimate, is basically an tanki with anti anti-tanks buttons
Ow2 hasnt has as many changes besides just changing health values around constantly and changing a couple abilities. They just add or subtract 25hp, or 1 or 2 points of damage and call it good for every change they make now.
I would disagree with the pharah portion (biased since im a pharah main), her strongest imo is when she had faster fire rate on her gun and she could stay in the air longer. The movement rn still keeps her as a sitting duck, and she couldn't spam rockets anymore.
I know we all like to reminisce about how bad these characters were at their most broken. But I'd vastly prefer if they would make crazy changes that get scaled back, over our current system of balance adjustments happening once every couple months. Or do more extreme experimental modes like the first massive tank buff one!
Wait you mean you don't like waiting 5 months for them to make the most minuscule change that doesn't affect the meta in any shape or form? (August 2021 - January 2022)
When the Mercy rework launched on the ptr, she gained increased damage and fire rate in valkyrie. Combined with the 11m/s movement speed (9m/s after it went live) Dps-Mercy was definitely in it’s prime back then
Zarya's grav is was much bigger than a 25% since the hitbox is a sphere. Gotta compare the volumes, karl: V=(4/3)*π*(6)^3 ≈ 904.77868 V=(4/3)*π*(8)^3 ≈ 2144.66058 2145/905 ≈ 2.37 or 237% bigger at 8m vs. now 🙂
Note on junkrat: I think he was considered strongest when he got reworked and his 2 mines had no fall off damage from the explosion radius, and his tire was way faster and could climb insane walls. Other than that brilliant video!
Everyone hates brig because they don’t want to admit that tracer was/is too powerful. They made a character specifically made to cancel her level of power. The devs just never realized the problem triple tank would become.

I agree with most of them except the genji and junkrat one. Imo his strongest state was when he was basically meta in 2020 where he deals 30 dmg and basically has blade on CD. Back in 2016 he has much worse shurikens, uncancallable and shorter duration on his deflect, weird interaction with his blade thats based on ping While junkrats strongest iteration was when he had 2 concussive mines with no dmg falloff, where he could effectively guaranteed a 240 dmg combo when hit
The real thing that made Genji strong back then was being able to melee cancel, shuriken>melee>dash was insane burst damage which made his resets even more deadly.
I still remember a rallying Brig was bodyblocked by 5 of us in that little hallway at end of Gibraltar, including a mercy boosted hog, she survived until her rally turned off. I was in disbelief how such a hero got released
Trying to explain moth meta to people who started playing after it always feels like an exaggeration, but you literally could not play a ranked game without a Mercy. No Mercy meant you would lose your Comp game, point blank. So long as you had Mercy, you could flex your team comp around them pretty substantially, but it *had* to include her or it was over, and it affected every level of competitive play - from bronze to OWL, Mercy was a must-pick. Even in QP, someone had to play Mercy or your team would flame bc you’re just gonna lose. Overwatch has had some annoying metas over its lifetime, but none of them felt as overwhelmingly dominant as Mercy meta imo.
I started playing around two weeks before sombra's best was nerfed. this video made me remember why I started playing the cowboy back when he was still called mccree (gods I miss that name) and why I stopped playing echo (the hp nerf to duplicate ruined my dps sr in just six games (from high silver to low bronze) and I still haven't fully recovered. edit: I've started playing echo again and I'm getting one shotted after half of my ults rather than guaranteed every time. Pffft, how would you know? 😉
I argue the Overwatch 2 Pro Player Showcase.
Did she still have instant EMP out of stealth back then? Or was it the same decloak/cast time as mentioned in the video? I can't remember.
There's a 50% DMG reduction cap? For all heroes? I had no idea
Honestly I think he was significantly better back when he had his own 1000 hp shield. Idk why we’re just ignoring that.
@@apple-de8tx Yea, it's for all heroes
@@kosmonautttt That was in beta. Never reached release
Oh yea, I remember back when I press right click, melee, and dash at the exact same time, doing 164 melee damage and 1 tapped tracer with zero skill, making her the least played hero in genji meta xD
No head shot required, just all body shots.

Yeah "Shotgun Bow" Hanzo at release was nutty.

It's definitely debatable about D.Va's strongest state but I remember 200hp/400armor with 4 second defense matrix Dva and her just being an unkillable murder bot.
Yup, 4s DM was absolutely her strongest state, could out-duel every character in the game and shut down an entire push/ult combo

@@realchiknuggets holy shit I forgot about the sigma shield that she had for while

The strongest state of Sombra was absolutely when hacked healthpacks gave ult charge. I really don't see how anyone could argue otherwise. You could farm EMP incredibly fast and get a guaranteed teamwipe with little coordination.

I personally think he should get turret mode as his ultimate, give him one mag of ammo and increase the ammo count, make his ult do a crazy amount of damage, like, he could just use his ult to burn through a Sym wall
Then make his current ult (tank mode) a cooldown ability but does less damage, I like his tank modes mobility and think he should get it more often so he can get in cool spots more often without wasting an ult

In my opinion, the most dominant Genji period was where his dash could cause damage over time (similar to Ashe's Dynamite) after piercing through an enemy.
that was beta when there was no cc in the game and he had triple jump, ledge dash and 8 second blade. truly the best time to be alive
he also had 35 damage on his shuriken, 8 second dragonblade, and quick melee used to deal 50 damage
Fun fact - that's actually a feature (and maybe an easter egg) in HOTS. HOTS Genji has 2 talents:
1 - If you hit enemies with the point of your dash, they get bleed for 2 seconds I think
2 - after you dash, you leave a shade behind that dashes second time, so you can deal damage 2 times from E
That never made it to live though, so I wouldn't say it was dominant. Genji's most dominant period was 8s Blade and Zenyatta Discord meta in S2. Then his second most dominant period was dive right before Brig was released, though he had lower priority than Tracer.

I personally feel as a Lucio main that his most “broken” state was after that short-lived patch where he had a speed boost that ramped up coming off of each wall ride and you could literally wall ride across a map like Eichenwald in 3 seconds while soaring through the air like Pharah.
dont forget, original genji’s deflect automatically went back to the shooter. so instead of how it is now where all the bullets go where you’re looking and all at 1 target; it would go back to the person who fired. so less damage across the board, but you also didn’t have to aim
how would that even work for projectiles

The problem with suggesting launch Zarya being the best, was that her weapon was bugged where unless you kept the beam on enemies consistently, it didn't do damage, even if the beam touched enemies for a millisecond. Once they changed it so that it was easier to deal damage more consistently, THAT was when she was the best.

Mcree
@@misterchili5866 he literally calls him mccree in the comment.
Imagine getting this patch where every hero is at there prime. What hero and what comp would be the best and most used?
goats
Lol
Not even a question
Mercy + Brig + Zen + Rein + D.VA + Zarya
@@wootingmasher You must have never played with the OP Mercy. She was more OP than Brig on launch.
People watching this with Overwatch 2 Orisa…
She's not stronger in ow2, just meta because she can survive.
As a Junkrat player, completely disagree with Junkrat… his most broken state was when you could fly his tire around for sure lol.
Blimp Tire is best tire
Though he was absolutely his strongest with the first time he had double concussion mines without falloff damage
Low gravity mode
Yeah, surprised he didnt mention this. The flying tire was insane
Junk is still the remaining the most broken hero in the game.
So extremely frustrating to get killed from around 4 corners by a random ricochet bomb...
I would love to see a custom game with all these characters at their prime state and seeing the chaos that could potentially happen.
Would be fun to have an experimental card with all these changes.
Every hero in it's most op state to see what characters were the most broken.
That would be insane
Or better yet take the best each individual stat has ever been, regardless of what the rest of the kit looked like in that patch.
Just have very character OP as fuck
I just barely realized the "Call Mech" ult symbol is D.Va's mech with an arrow pointing down through it. I thought it was lightning or something random like that this whole time. 😂
Wtf, I've been playing since day one and I never got what that symbol was. Ty
Has Lucio ever really been broken? I feel like he’s been maybe the most consistently balanced character over the life of the game.
His strongest state was the date they added "Lucio o's"
yeah not really
if anything they did him wrong with his original design way back pre-rework
still loved him though
they did lucio dirty, you gotta work twice as hard as every other healer if you don’t want to get flamed.
Yea lucios heal has to move slower now I feel like when I play him I’m getting outpaced on heals by half time healers like Moira.
11:49:
Volume of a sphere of radius 8 is 2144.66m cubed. Volume of a sphere radius 6 is 904.78. Radius 8 actually covers a huge amount more volume of space
I love these old "history" videos where we can look back on how OW used to be. Gives some nostalgia.
Plus, his level 3 turret just destroyed enemies from decent range and all he had to do was press Q.
i was 1v1 clapping roadhogs with just a hammer with those armor packs lmao
Yea but he was worthless in a fight. His pistol sucked and he moved slow. As a winston main I had to learn to not just instinctually dive on him cuz he could actually duel decently after they reworked him
Flashbacks to Torb plays where it starts out with him dying, then the turret gets a 5k
A couple years into OW2 and I REALLY miss how the game felt when this video came out
Some of these are debatable. Their numbers might be better but like sym used to have this ultra long range beam that could bend around corners sticking to people along with her 6 turrets. Her ult was lame but sometimes you could pull off getting your entire team teleported from spawn to enemy spawn
Someone should make a workshop mode that sets up all of the heroes to their strongest points just so we can see how it would play if everyone was in their prime compared to now.
that’s just goats simulator
with the exception of brig cuz no hero EVER broke the game like SHE DID
@@CrazyKevin22 Fair. Brig was an annoying little bish. But Hanzo with Scatter would be cool in general.
McCree was very annoying in his peak, like a long range Reaper
You're my guy for still calling him McCree, cause thats who he is.
@@roanwolf6389 - Nope. His name is Cassidy now, and going forward he will *always* be Cassidy. The new name is here to stay forever. Sorry you're Big Mad that he's no longer glorifying a scumbag, but you need to get used to it.
@@opo3628 ok boomer. He's still Jesse McCree so whatever you say.
@@roanwolf6389
but why do you care though
@@opo3628 Yes the real life guy was a scumbag and it's truly a shame such a good character got his name from such a horrible person but I like a lot of other people don't associate the overwatch cowboy with the shit-head. I completely understand your reasoning though.
Edit, forgot to add: eventually Cassidy will stick but for those who've played for multiple years, it'll be tough to shake of McCree.
Brig at launch was INSANE. 600 hp shield, and that superlow shieldbash cooldown. She could play every role at once lmao
Fair
The reason Widowmaker was so broken at launch was the fact that scoping in and out had no delay versus staying scoped so you could rapid fire full charge shots by quickscoping meaning you didn't even need to hit headshots because she was 2 shooting to the body so fast enemies didn't have time to react or reposition.
I like how you gave Brigitte Cynthia’s battle theme showing how both characters in their respective games at the time were equally terrifying to fight
That's the Legendary Battle Theme for Gen 4.
That's the Spear Pillar music from DPPt
It’s dialaga and palkias theme come on guys
The reason sombra was insane during that era was cause she could gain ultimate charge from teammates using her hacked healthpacks, giving her so much ult that u can ult about 6-7 times in a 2cp map fight
Couple of corrections half way in:
Genji's blade used to do 120 dmg per blade hit instead of 110
Sym's beam was either 50% larger before or over 100% larger before depending on how beams work. 0.3/0.2 = 1.5 or 0.3*0.3*pi / 0.2*0.2*pi = 2.25
You forgot about Genji’s super high dmg combo:
Shuriken Melee Dash.
Dash was capable of interrupting the melee animation back then, so 1 combo and any 200health hero was down.
Great vid tho :)
Gonna have to update this now that all the tanks are ridiculous in Overwatch 2
I do think that current tracer version is better than ever before, despite not having as strong pulse bomb, just because of that blink change where she can now travel vertically far better than before and it makes her a menace in flanking.
sigma still very dumb and softbrain tho
@@armoredsquirrel946 how?
@@excaliburblaze3258 how? lol just stay next to a healer and rotate your cool downs and the mf is inmortal, tank with odd hitbox, infinite primary, best shield in the game, stunt, flying ultimate, is basically an tanki with anti anti-tanks buttons
I'd LOVE to see a video like this about Overwatch 2
Ow2 hasnt has as many changes besides just changing health values around constantly and changing a couple abilities.
They just add or subtract 25hp, or 1 or 2 points of damage and call it good for every change they make now.
I love that the Halo theme is over Soldier 76's bit. lol
The funny part about doom fist was that right after his most broken state got nerfed he started being played a lot more especially in lower ranks
I would disagree with the pharah portion (biased since im a pharah main), her strongest imo is when she had faster fire rate on her gun and she could stay in the air longer. The movement rn still keeps her as a sitting duck, and she couldn't spam rockets anymore.
If i remember correctly Orisa was the most overpowered when she was able to charge her ultimate already while her supercharger was active
I think you might have had a typo on McCree's name, other than that twas a neat video indeed
I love that you used BAYONETTA ost!
Really awesome to see a fully realised version of this! I think if we put all these guys in a patch together it would be pure madness 😂
Combined with the 11m/s movement speed (9m/s after it went live) Dps-Mercy was definitely in it’s prime back then
This needs an update for ow2
That rdr2 music for McCree was amazing
Zarya's grav is was much bigger than a 25% since the hitbox is a sphere.
Gotta compare the volumes, karl:
V=(4/3)*π*(6)^3 ≈ 904.77868
V=(4/3)*π*(8)^3 ≈ 2144.66058
2145/905 ≈ 2.37 or 237% bigger at 8m vs. now 🙂
the numbers mason
Also notable that the *radius* was more than 25% larger... 8 is 33% bigger than 6...
Note on junkrat: I think he was considered strongest when he got reworked and his 2 mines had no fall off damage from the explosion radius, and his tire was way faster and could climb insane walls.
Other than that brilliant video!
Brig was arguably one of the most game changing and breaking heroes ever added before role que and her rework
Everyone hates brig because they don’t want to admit that tracer was/is too powerful. They made a character specifically made to cancel her level of power. The devs just never realized the problem triple tank would become.
@@edwindukes2413 not to mention shield bash through barriers, her one shot combo that was also really effective against other hero's and not just tracer, her survivability (that she still somewhat has), her armour pack heal. Jan 30, 2018 - Concussion Mine now will deal less damage to targets farther away from the explosion’s center.
May 3, 2018 - Frag Launcher projectile size decreased from 0.3 to 0.2. RIPtire tire movement speed decreased from 13 to 12.
Aug 9, 2018 - Ammo restored after Riptire
Mar 19, 2019 - Frag Launcher impact damage increased from 40 to 50.RIPtire cost increased by 10%.
March 19, 2019 - Damage boost is now only applied when a projectile is fired, rather than when it hits a target.
Apr 16, 2019 - Frag Launcher projectile speed increased from 20 to 25. Grenades now bounce less but explode sooner.
August 13th, 2019 - Global ultimate cost increased 12%.
May 19, 2020 - Frag Launcher projectiles maintain slightly more velocity on ricochet. Concussion mine projectile speed increased from 20 to 25. Ricochet distance off of enemy players greatly reduced. Total Mayhem bomb detonation time reduced from 1 sec to 0.7. bomb s spread increased 50%.
Jun 30, 2020 - Concussion mine trigger delay reduced from 0.156 to 0.1 seconds. RIPtire time to take control of junkrat post detonation has been reduced from 1.5 to 0.9 seconds.
Aug 31, 2020 - Frag Launcher impact damage reduced from 50 to 40 (Total 130 to 120)
May 5 2021 - Drop tire bug “fixed”
Season 6 was ~ Oct 2017. Tough to say, lots of objectively better changes to Junk since then hence why I narrowed it down to that 2020 version.
@@zaehelhm3099 rat main lmao
Well this can all be opinion based.
I disagree with the Hog one. I feel like Hog was strongest during the Hog mega since he could practically one-shot Reinhardts and Zaryas.
I agree with most of them except the genji and junkrat one. Imo his strongest state was when he was basically meta in 2020 where he deals 30 dmg and basically has blade on CD. Back in 2016 he has much worse shurikens, uncancallable and shorter duration on his deflect, weird interaction with his blade thats based on ping
While junkrats strongest iteration was when he had 2 concussive mines with no dmg falloff, where he could effectively guaranteed a 240 dmg combo when hit
MUSELK WE MISS HIM IN OVERWATCH!
nah
I started playing around two weeks before sombra's best was nerfed. this video made me remember why I started playing the cowboy back when he was still called mccree (gods I miss that name) and why I stopped playing echo (the hp nerf to duplicate ruined my dps sr in just six games (from high silver to low bronze) and I still haven't fully recovered.
