I hope you realized what you just watched. Absolute heavyweights of jazz/fusion. Omar Hakim and Don Alias, especially during their time with Weather Report, and Hiram Bullock from back in the day dueling with Jaco Pastorius. SRV playing with these greats just blew me away. Thanks for posting.

My wife and I saw SRV at the Greek Amphitheater in Los Angeles in August of 1989, almost a year to the day before he was killed. The opening act was BB King. After both King's and SRV's sets were over, King’s band came back out on stage and jammed with SRV's band for probably 45 minutes to an hour. Both of those men had a genuine love for one another, and performed together frequently.
At the time, my wife was 7 months pregnant with our now 30 year old son. You could visibly *SEE* him rocking out inside her tummy during the show. I’m a guitar-player myself for 57 years now, and I’ve been to a lot of concerts over the years, with a lot of other musicians, and played in a bunch more shows myself, but that concert with BB King and SRV was hands down the best concert I ever attended. Both were legends, but SRV was a cut above even that. The man could PLAY!

Old school music lover here. I've seen SRV four times and met the guys twice. During his addiction, he was just a super guy to talk with and he played like he was a god. After got sober, was still a super guy and so humble, and he still played like he having so much fun. 1000% Respect RIP.
His hands were freakishly strong and large, he was able to play heavy, heavy strings and just bend them into submission.

saw him at the Great Woods Amphitheater in Mansfield Mass back in 1987. He broke a string on the first song. I turned to my friend, we both dropped our jaws and high fived one another. Oh, my, oh, my, things were about to get religious.

At one point he was using as heavy as 13 gauge strings, which could flay the fingertips of most normal humans.
This was after SRV courageously "cleaned up" from drug/alcohol addiction. Travis Walk was inspired by his walks to 12 step meetings. He was at his all time peak after cleaning up. A humble, beautiful man! I used to work in the music distribution business & he played at our annual convention in 1989. I was hanging on the edge of the stage, totally blown away! At the after party, his rep came out & said, "Hey, Stevie Ray would just like to hang out with ya'll; please don't ask for autographs; just enjoy yourselves!"
I approached him to thank him for his amazing music & got a hug & a kiss!
Just about fell to my knees!!!
I was working an account when I heard the news of his death on the radio.
I had to leave...return to my hotel room & just cried my heart out.

I met Stevie in 1989, after a show in Santa Few, NM. he was the most genuinely nice, down to earth and humble cat you would ever want to meet, and yes incredibly talented

Pamela Hammons I went to a... I almost said “memorial service”, but it wasn’t... it was a celebration of his life at Liberty Lunch in Austin on Sunday, the night after he died, organized by some of his friends. Everyone was in shock, of course, but it was a surreal scene... Everyone started telling Stevie stories and laughing, having a great time. Doyle Bramhall even got up & played “Willie the Wimp and his Cadillac Coffin.” Everyone knew Stevie was in the room with us. You could feel it. I felt so much better when I left than I had when I got there. God bless him

Love love LOVE Stevie!!! Not only was he an influential guitar player, he was such an inspiration as a person. Came through a nearly deadly drug and alcohol addiction to become sober through hard work and dedication on his part! He chose to spread his story to others and help them with their journey. A very caring heart. Like you said, no one is like him as a musician either!
The best I ever heard anyone describe the force of nature called Stevie Ray Vaughn was "he was like and open channel. Everything he did came from the heart and seemed effortless." I don't know how much you know about guitars but he was a monster just on the setup of the instrument as well. Most people use maybe 8 gauge strings set fairly close to the fretboard. It has been written that Stevie liked the strings high off the frets for bending deep and used 13 gauge strings too. Had to have steel fingertips to play like that. That combo would tear off most peoples fingertips.

I’m not even sure where I first heard SRV, it may have been on MTV. I just remember getting tickets, and going with my best friend to see him for the first of many times. He ALWAYS put on a stellar show. I will never forget the feeling of seeing him perform just a few yards away...it was very nearly a religious experience. The world is a better place for having had Stevie Ray to show what guitar playing is all about. I can’t imagine the soundtrack of my life, without his music in it.

Sweet Pepper. Me too. I was just introduced to SRV through different reactors. Only in January. Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are master guitarists and went to my High school. No one comes close to SRV. Glad you had the blessing of seeing him.

That other guitarist is none other than Hiram Bullock. His work can be heard on Bob James' Angela which is also the theme song for the TV show Taxi,Steely Dan's Gaucho (1980), Paul Simon's One Trick Pony (1980), Sting's ...Nothing Like the Sun (1987) and Billy Joel's The Stranger(1977). He also worked with Harry Belafonte, Marcus Miller, Carla Bley, Miles Davis, Ruben Rada, and Gil Evans.

I grew up in the same area of town as Stevie and Jimmie. Heard Jimmie with his band when we were just teens. Moved to Austin and saw Stevie many times playing in bars and clubs. The truth be told l sorta took him for granted because I had seen him so many times. The day when he died they had a memorial at Zilker park in Austin. Thousands of people showed up with candles. I cried and felt a great sense of loss. I see these live videos and realize how much l miss seeing him and Double Trouble. And sometimes I cry . He is missed.
Was blessed to see SRV about a month before his passing. God makes talent like this once a generation and I’m glad I got to see him perform.

NOBODY played like Stevie. I saw him live in 89 and he was wide open 24-7. Unbelievable talent. Technically brilliant and creative but at the same time soulful and intense. Taken from us way too soon. I cried when I heard the news of his death. As far as this song, it was slow compared to other versions ive heard him do. Still great though. I love everything he did.
Everyone in that room is a legend in their own right.
Yes I like this song. I've written before. I saw him New Years Eve, ringing in 1987. It was Dec 31, 1986. BB King was also on the ticket! Later surprise guest, Lonnie Mack, another early SRV influence surprised him at the show. It was in Atlanta, GA at the newly restored and saved from destruction, The Fabulous Fox Theather. Known and has the greatest acoustics ever. The Fox is rated as one of the top acoustic music venues in the world. It's a memory I am grateful and blessed to have. Phenomenal show. Introduced himself as Mr. CLEAN! Fresh out of rehab.
I love this song written by bandmates during Stevie's stay at rehab, Tommy's also. Drummer Chris Layton, and keyboardist, pianists, Reece Wynan collaborated on this song, Crossfire. Also written by a song writing team and recorded Tightrope. Both became top 40 hits with Crossfire becoming his longest and highest rated top 40 hit.
I love Stevie now, I loved him then. He's always been in a class all his own with respect to other guitar greats, I still put Stevie as the best of the best.
His humanitarian qualities, humble and kind ways made Stevie the man. His talent, technique, feel and tone made him an over the top guitarist, singer and songwriter. May he RIP. I love SRV! Thanks for all the love you passed our way. Thanks for the reaction.

Saw him play, never met him but can attest to how his music, personality and struggles deeply rooted into the lives of so many individuals who he touched. His adopted hometown, Austin, TX, remembers him proudly.

I saw SRV live in New Orleans, at the Warehouse decades ago (late 80's). He opened for Jeff Beck (with Tony Hymas and Terry Bozzio). They closed the show together with "Going Down". To say the least, that was quite a show. If you can, I would love to see anything on Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush.

Stevie is just the best. He enjoyed playing with new people but kept his heart with Double Trouble for 10 years before the crash. Just the best.
Yeah, I've seen Stevie live many times as a Texan, he played the all the good clubs around the State, played a lot in Austin, Tx. met him at the House of Blues on Richmond Ave. in Houston, Tx. where I live. Seen him in concerts, he sold out every concert he had. Wish he was still alive! Last month Joe Bonamassa played a concert in Sugarland, Tx., it was a good show too.
Stevie Ray was the Guitar and the Guitar was Stevie Ray. He was also my brother. I went to every gig he ever played.

I went to see him in concert in the Paramount Theater in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Small arena and he died not too long after. Awesome concert

I discovered SRV'S music in the 80s and I still listen to it all the time today. He never played a song the same twice. A little extra thrown in this or that. Still keep me up on my toes!
I cried the morning after he passed. I had tickets to that last concert but we decided not to go because traffic getting out of alpine valley was always horrible and you'd be stuck for long time and I had to get up very early the next morning for work. I've always regretted that choice.

I loved how he was playing near the 2nd fret on the d or a key and in a split second he moved to around the 13th fret on treble e or b chord and it moved the octave by about two. It was so smooth. He absolutely amazes me. I love watching the old videos of him playing with Buddy Guy and Albert Ray.
My brothers band opened for Stevie and I was playing bass. Our guitar player actually got to play his SRV with the serial #1
From the landmark In Step album which Vaughan recorded after his recovery from Drugs and Alcoholism...It was marked by a new Fervor and creative joy in his sound. So sad he passed not to long after this...My top 2 favorite guitarists are SRV and Clapton...totally different approaches but both Bluesmen at heart...
What a talent. He makes that guitar sing. I remember when the commercial for the album "In Step" came on TV back in 1989. I heard that riff at the end of Crossfire and just from that 10 or so seconds, I KNEW I had to have that album. I was not disappointed and have played that album ever since.

I saw him live from 1983 to when he died in 1990, about 7 or 8 shows. The last show I saw was a matter of weeks before he passed. The first one The Outlaws opened for him at The Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Philly. All shows were amazing. I miss that sound.
I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1988 at the Greek Theatre in LA. Best show I’ve ever seen. But there is a new king on the Throne.His name is Mato Nanji he is the guitarist for a band named Indigenous.They are from South Dakota,and are all related,check them out. I remember I was in Europe in the military and I get back home and this song is going crazy on the east coast, I heard about two cords and knew exactly who it was, and told my brothers in arms that’s Stevie I’ll play some os his real stuff.... thing about crossfire and tightrope it brought attention to his really great music beforehand, outside of Texas few people knew this talent

I was fortunate to have seen SRV 3 times in concert.
Living in Austin, TX during the mid-eighties, I would frequent a club called The Blind Pig. On Wednesdays they'd have an open mic. As per practice there, you'd leave your rig on stage to save time; no sense each guitarist tuning up, right? Anyway, I had my Seagull up on stage after just finishing my bit. Who walks in? Yeah, SRV. He grabbed my Seagull and played it like I do in dreams. Yeah, SRV played my guitar. Never washed it again. And if you haven't, wait til you hear Texas Flood.
I saw him in a small amphitheater in IN a few months before he died, he was AWESOME! No One can equal him!

I first heard SRV when I bought the cassette tape of Couldn't Stand The Weather in a bargain bin for a dollar, one of the best dollar bills I ever spent. I bought it because I saw he did a cover of Voodoo Chile and was blown away. I called my friend Ray and told him he had to check this guy out. Ray bought the album, called me after listening to it and we talked for half an hour about Stevie. I never got to see him live so I missed out big time. By the way, Hiram Bullock was in the band for the David Letterman show in the early days of the show and is no slouch on the guitar either.

I haven't seen guitarist Hiram Bullock in a loooong time. He was David Letterman and Paul Shaffer's first guitarist way back in the early 80s on David Letterman's first late night show Late Night With David Letterman on NBC. He was a member of Paul Shaffer's band for the first couple of years before Sid McGinnis took over on guitar. And that is saxophone great David Sanborn doing the introducing who often sat in with Paul Shaffer's band.

SRV was opening for someone else when I saw him. At the time I didn't like this kind of music. But man, I knew he was a phenomenon. Solid fan now.

My dad saw him here October 9, of 85. Stevie had his 31st birthday 6 days before.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was my favorite for a very very long time. Only person I know of that can play blues that would compare to Stevie, (also in another league of his own) is Little Jimmy King. Sadly he has left us as well, but not before I saw him live at BB Kings blues club in Memphis. All I can say is WOW. You should check him out too. Thanks for the vid.
I had the pleasure to meet SRV a couple of times when I was living in Austin, TX in the early 80,s and saw him perform in many venues around Austiin and across Texas.

Stevie Ray was a freak of nature. So missed. If you want to hear someone today who can really shred the blues guitar check out Joe Bonamassa, Breaking up Someone’s Home from Live at The Greek. I’m sure you’ll have a few mind blowing moments.
It wasn't Stevie Rae's string that broke. It was the bass player's string. :D Fantastic song. I don't remember ever hearing it and I really liked the words and message in it.

I went to several SRV shows, loved his New Years eve parties in Houston.. The biggest and best line up of top notch blues guitarists I have ever seen on a stage at one time just shredding it up.

I've seen him play 9 times and feel so grateful for each show. His timing was perfect. Tone flawless, execution perfect, a one of a kind to say the least. Check out his live versions of Mary had a little lamb or couldn't stand the weather from the Austin city limits show. His solos on each song were incredible. I know he uses couldn't stand the weather as a way to introduce the band, but the easy he comes in after the piano and obliterates the audience with his solo is something I still never tire of hearing. A true master with his amazing voice and the glory of that electric guitar.
Written while he was in rehab. It and Tightrope. Both great songs. Recovery songs. Tgey are from the album in step. His last album with Double Trouble. He did record Famiky Style with his brother Jimmie and was released a month after his death. Tick Tock was a great little hit song from Family Style.
That was cool seeing him with a different band. Really had a different swing. The drummer was driving the bus here. Layton seems to lay back more. Cool vid. Travis Walk is cool live.
Did you know he played lead guitar on David Bowies Let's Dance hit song. Yeah David saw him at Montreaux and fell head over hills for the guitar playing of Stevie Ray.
I just found out a couple of weeks ago that SRV was only 5'5". Shocked.
Crossfire is a great and unique song in the SRV catalogue. It is a classic blues call and answer between his vocals and guitar. Listen closely and he never sings and picks or strums the guitar at the same time. "Day by day" *strum* "night after night". It was also much shorter in an attempt to be radio friendly, but never quite got that radio play. I love this tune though.
