I was there, that last night at Alpine Valley Wisconsin. The ticket was Robert Cray, Stevie Ray & Eric Clapton. Stevie has his brother Jimmy make a guest appearance for his set and Buddy Guy sat in with Eric for his. This entire line up came out for Eric's encore and all jammed together. The last song Stevie ever played was Sweet Home Chicago. Odd thing is that it is where that copter was heading when it went down. It was the foggiest night I've seen my whole life

I was there the night before and a few of my friends were there the same night as you. They all talked about how he was on fire and got to go around twice for "Sweet Home Chicago" and how they all wanted to buy more of his music. By noon we heard he'd been killed; talk about going from high to low in seconds. RIP and God bless, Stevie.

@@andaimhineach4131 I only had $20 to get a tshirt at the show. I really wanted to Stevie shirt, but opted for the Clapton shirt instead. He'd been around for many years and I just didn't know if he'd be around much longer. Stevie was young and had many more years to go, or so I thought.

I first saw SRV and the band on September 23rd 1983. I had his brand new first record for maybe a month. I knew that night in Miami, those folks didn't know who he was. It was the local Jammie awards show for music, musicians, and bands. SRV was opening for the 1960's rocker Mitch Ryder. SRV actually stunned the audience for a couple thousand people. During the intermission, all you could hear was, WHO WAS THAT GUY????? Two days later we drove up to Cocoa Beach, Fl. at a big club called BRASSY'S Nightclub. Again most didn't know him, and he went on to play 2 1/2 sets of music. Every guitar player in the area was there, and the look on their faces was priceless. I saw SRV 5 more times, and met him and the band backstage at the Brevard County Fair in late 1987. ........You can go to ANY SRV clip here on TH-cam, and will NEVER hear SRV and the band having a so so night. SRV ALWAYS gave 110%, not matter what.

Thank God we have recordings of his performances. A Stevie Ray song I dislike does not exist. If I had to choose one favorite, I couldn't do it. All his performances, live or otherwise are dynamic and soul-reaching. If I had to choose only one of his songs to ever listen to, though, I would have to choose Riviera Paradise. That song takes me away.

There's nothing like seeing this band play after Steve got clean and sober. When he finally reached out and allowed himself to get help, he had doubts about whether or not he would still be able to play and sing as well as he did when he was high.
In my opinion, he became even better, musically, and the band actually started to create more of their own material.
Steve lived the blues, as did his big brother Jimmy .
Crossfire is a song he wrote about his struggles with addiction.
And man , does he nail it.

Ya gotta remember, Stevie died in 1990. A lot of music has been made since then, and Blues-Rock isn't as mainstream as it was in the 80s - 90s. So, it doesn't surprise me that you've never heard Stevie Ray in public. In most cases, you would have to be at a bar, music festival, or hear it in a movie these days, unless you're digging around for new music on TH-cam or other online sources. I'm going to see his older brother Jimmie Vaughan at a club near Detroit this summer. I love both the Vaughan brothers!

Choose. Got a great video for you. Stevie Ray Vaughn and his guitar hero, Albert King playing together on BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN. Stevie was a fan of his from early on and was able to jam with King after his breakthrough in the 8o's. Their meeting was recorded and there is an album and video footage of two of them rocking out. Albert King could be difficult. But he was won over by Stevie Ray's respect for the blues and style. Check it out. Enjoy.
