I know I am late reacting to this video but I just saw this tonight. I wanted to explain something about the people who watched SRV live. I was lucky enough to see him live in an arena setting and we all had the same reaction. Please let me try to explain what it was like. No one clapped or cheered while he played. You were aware that you were hearing something rare and did not want to miss a single note. While he was on stage, no one in the audience made a sound. But baby, when the last note of a song fell from his fingers, the roar that went up from the crowd could be felt in your bones. That is just the way it was. I am 65 years old now, he would have been 66 if he had lived, but I can still recall every thing he had on and every song he played. It was life changing.

Saw him live in NYC way way back in the day. We were all half in the bag drinking whatever, laughing, hooting and hollering and Stevie hit the stage. The minute this dude started playing our jaws dropped. None of us were too familiar with him but it was utter silence until he finished the first song then the place ERUPTED!!! MIND BLOWN. We talked about him for weeks and bought his vinyl.
I am VERY proud to say that I got off my butt and drove to Jacksonville, Florida to see Stevie Ray live in a small auditorium, front row seat no less!!! I'll never forget him, he was stone gone, in another place playing that guitar, un F'ing believable. Three years or so later he made his transition. RIP Ty, I just LOVE your reaction to hearing him!!:):)
MRM, I'm 61 years old, and you won't believe how cool it is to watch generations of folks like you watch SRV, and get it, really get it! When music sticks around past it's generation is profound. Watching you understand is profound. Bravo!

Me too. I used to work "the pit" at concerts when I was in college. So SRV was like 3 feet from me for easily an hour. After the set, my co-worker was exactly like "MRM" (amazed). I had known what I was getting into. Definitely one of the top 4-5 concerts I've ever witnessed (and I've worked at or attended personally a couple hundred). This was on NOV 5, 1983 and he OPENED for the Moody Blues.
MRM loved watching you watching SRV. I'm 56 and I was Blessed enough to see him Twice! That's Right 2 Times. The First time was Blues Festival in Dallas BB King was the Headliner Stevie went on before BB and Mr. King couldn't hang with Stevie's show 2nd song into Mr. King's set he says "Let me Introduce you to my Son" Stevie comes and finishes off the show with BB and his Band. Next year Stevie was Headlining the Festival. I'm a Guitar player when I heard the news about the crash about 9am i left work and went to a Bar and my wife found me about 11pm I was completely Numb for at least 2-3 weeks. He was also recently Sober - kicked his Habits! Loved your reactions Dude!
The thing that amazes me most (and i am a guitarist) is that SRV never ever stops playing.............ever! We all think about where we are going next but he just played, and then some!
I absolutely love seeing these young people react to stevie!! It takes me back when i first heard him and thought "there is no way i am hearing what is coming out of this man and guitar"!! Stevie just had that impact on everyone. I also noticed any SRV reaction videos get a ton of views and comments from everone. That shows how much EVERYONE loved stevie. If you dont love stevie, you have no soul!! Nobody can touch this man imo.

I'm a new subscriber...At 53 yrs old, Stevie Ray Vaughn still gets to me. You had the right reaction and it brought tears to my eyes, I loved it. I have listened to SRV for years! I actually got to see him in concert back in the mid 80's...OMG SRV WAS OFF THE CHAIN!!!! I'm so very glad you listened to this. SRV did Jimi Hendrix proud on this one!!
Annette Nave I’m 49 and was lucky to have seen SRV back in 89@ the Concord Pavilion here in Northern California with the Fabulous Thunderbirds , watching him shred the guitar was truly mesmerizing.
This is THE single greatest live electric guitar performance I have ever witnessed. Nothing else even comes close. Stevie is completely off the charts with this one.

Having seen him play when I was a younger man it is understandable that you would say why is the crowd just sitting there. The thing is it was just that you just didn't want to take your eyes off what he was doing and you wanted to not make a sound to disturb the moments that a guitar god was laying down. Applause, screaming, tears of joy could wait until he was finished.
Now THIS is the way a reaction video should be done! None of that stopping the content every few seconds to make clueless exclamations but instead, letting it play through and showing us good, genuine reaction on-the-fly! That's what makes it fun! That's what allows we viewers to have the joy of watching your reaction to the content as it unfolds and makes us feel a little like we're watching it with you for the first time. Thanks! :-)
great video bro, i was lucky enough to see SRV live in so cal in 1990 B&H Blues Fest a show of blues legends who all were incredible, but I was there for Stevie and he just killed us all that night I Count my self blessed to have been there to see him play,..less than 8 weeks later he was gone. You are absolutely right,.. its one of the few best things about being " old enough" lol to have 'been there to see it live" It brings tears to my eyes thinking how many years of incredible music was lost when SRV was lost so young.....
Stevie Ray was a FORCE unto himself! We lost a fabulous musician when he passed away! He was often under appreciated during his career. Modern day statement is that his playing is PURE DOPE!! Loves me some Stevie Ray!!
Nothing on earth was as memorizing as watching SRV play live. Nothing. His stage crew was the most amazing thing I ever saw. Stevie shredded strings, his roadies switched out guitars and he’d never miss a beat. I was literally slack jawed through the entire show, 1988

Right as he was cleaning up his act, getting straight, appreciating life itself so much ... I still remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard he had died in that helicopter crash ... I was driving northbound on 205 near the Otty Road exit, almost home to Outer SE Portland. First, shock, then profound sadness for Stevie and his family and friends. 💔😢
I saw him in concert a year before his tragic helicopter crash. I was lucky enough to be at stage level. The only guy that I have ever seen that plays lead and rhythm guitar at the same time.
"Stevie Ray Vaughn" = G.O.A.T! I was blessed to see him live, in November 3rd. of 1989. Also on the bill was the legendary "Jeff Beck"! At "Cobo Hall" in Detriot! The show was completely SOLD OUT! & We couldn't attain any tickets, anywhere! But get this, me & my crew were on I-94E. heading back to our shop, around 6pm, after working all day, just a few miles North of downtown Detroit. & We had the local Rock station (WRIF) playing in the truck! After a commercial break, the DJ announced live on air. That, they just released 300 tickets to the show at a first come, first served basis!!! $5-Tier C Tickets! Boy.... I whipped that truck around at the next exit & was at Cobo Hall in 10min. What a show, words cannot describe? He was the BEST- BAR NONE! Sadly though, he had perished in "Alpine Valley" WI. Several months later. 😔 🙏🏻 I would highly encourage everyone, to watch his performance in Toronto, Canada. "Live at the El Mocambo" 1983! I understand that most of the reaction videos of SRV, are from "Austin City Limits" Which is an excellent performance! With that said: the- "Live at El Mocambo" performance is a completely different animal! On a different plateau! Undoubtedly the greatest display of guitar playing, I have ever witnessed!!! Peace ✌

The only player that could play like that was Hendrix himself. I saw them both live and it something I will never forget. SRV idolized Hendrix and it shows in this cover of his song. We lost them both way to early.

I saw Hendrix live a couple times and SRV once. I know this is sacrilege, but I think SRV was the better musician. I think this is that rare example of the disciple surpassing the master.

They say that when he shook your hand, you felt like he could crush it if he wanted to. I think sadly though he’s more famous now, than when he was alive. He’s truly a legend!!!!

You watch his bends, the gauge of strings he could use because of his huge strong hands was why he could make his sound what it was. Technically he was flawless. Tone, rhythm. Seriously. SUBBBB....tears watching you jam to Stevie. He is a Texas legend. A humble genius. I listened to him all through college and saw him whenever I could. All the local cover bands paid tribute. The day he died...time stood still. Folks were stunned and unable to talk. We were numb. It was hard to breathe. The musicians I knew were in mourning for weeks. Stevie was from the "bad" south side of Dallas...he grew up with real Texas blues. He did not steal the blues from the soul men of Deep Ellum...he borrowed it, nurtured it, gave his soul to it and never sold out. RIP Stevie...gone way too soon. So thrilled to see ya'll feeling his music for the first time.
I am an ol' dude, 72. Stevie is the shciezen! Master of the instrument, master of the mood. Make the mood, with the instrument, his voice, his talent. Mr music, mister blues. Period. I majored in music in Austin at UT. (Trumpet player) Stevie had it in spades and then two more decks of cards.

Love, love, LOVE watching new people discover SRV! Your reaction reminded me so much of mine when I first heard Stevie's take on Voodoo Chile (Jimi Hendrix originally wrote it as "Voodoo Chile" not "Voodoo Child"). The first thing I did was rewind that sucker and hit play over and over with my mouth hanging wide open. Eric Clapton described Stevie Ray best when he said, "I just had to meet this guy. He was like an open channel to some higher power." Yep.
There were two songs that people usually get confused. They were both on Hendrix's last studio album, Electric Ladyland. The first was called 'Voodoo Chile' and it was (IMHO) rather unremarkable, which is why I suspect most people don't know it. The second one, on the B-side, is called Voodoo Child (Slight Return). (Note the "Child" in this song as opposed to "Chile" in the first one.) This is the song with which people are most familiar, thanks in large part to SRV.
I remember Clapton saying in a documentary that most of the guitar guys of his day would go into a solo, including himself, get lost in it and had to figure out how to get back to the song. He went on saying that that never happens with Stevie Ray Vaughan. He knows exactly where he is at all times and all he does is just channel.
Jimi Hendrix recorded this song in October of 1968, if you can believe that it's almost 50 years old now. Joe Satriani said of the song: "It's just the greatest piece of electric guitar work ever recorded. In fact, the whole song could be considered the holy grail of guitar expression and technique. It is a beacon of humanity." I don't know about that last part, but you have to admit - whether it's Jimi's version or SRV's - it stands as one of the best modern songs ever recorded, and it never fails to blow me away when I listen to it.
Just a little trivia fact about Jimi Hendrix he was a left handed guitar player. only back when he was playing there was no such thing as a left handed guitar.

I'm 60 years old and very very Thankful to have been borned during this Era of music, Unbelievable. Alot of today's , not all music, is what I call throw away music, just like the vehicles that are being made. This music Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Led Zeppelin and so on, will never die.
That's Austin City Limits. It's set up for broadcast. There is rarely dancing going on because it messes up the recording and it was a pretty cramped space. It kinda is a church for music.
BB King called SRV his 'white son'. He said that while he played words and sentences with his guitar, Stevie played whole paragraphs at a time. Eric Clapton said he could only listen to one or two of SRV's song at a time or else he'd just give u on the guitar.
Few can say they stood in his presence, breathing the same air, watching him sweat, and wondering what what powerful force created him. I was in radio when he came into his own in the late 80s, and was asked to interview him. I can only speak of him in terms of abject honour, of being in the presence of amazing grace which words cannot describe!

Stevie Ray, ROCKS! He could sing and shred a guitar! So sad he loss his life in a helicopter crash, his life and career had really just begun. He left us such a fantastic legacy of music to remember him by. Rest In Peace, Stevie. 💔 ❤️. Walked out to his little vehicle,pulled that very guitar out and play in the parking lot until daybreak,and he was just as AWESOME
Yeah my late best friend Mark and I pulled in the lot right as srv was pulling his guitar out of the car...you might remember mark lol he was the guy firing the fat doubles... Awesome night. Two really cool guys gone way too soon.
Yes, one of the best guitar players ever. Remember the first time I saw him in concert and he was still on drugs really bad and it was a great show, saw him a couple of more times, then he kicked his drug habits and the next time I saw him it was a total different show, he was really kicking A Double S and playing some much better, in my opinion he was getting better as the time went on, I was waiting for him to come back to Memphis so I could see him again. I remember driving to work on the morning when I heard the news of the chopper crash and that Stevie Ray was no longer with us. I often wonder how much better he would be today if he was still alive. He was already one of the best, but after he kick the drugs, he got better and was continuing to get better on commanding and controlling that guitar and was one of the greatest guitarists of our time. This is what needs to happen more to the millennial generation - exposure to quality music not the slick packaged, marketed, force fed crap they try pass off as music today. I think if this happened, more people would be playing music and demanding that music education be put back in the public schools.

Hey man, if you get a chance then check out " I'll play the blues for you " by Joe Bonnammassa on you tube. I think you'll like it. If you like good heartfelt music then try some of Keith Whitley's songs too. Good to see the younger generation listening to older songs. Music is a universal language that everyone can enjoy regardless of race , creed or the color of our skin. God looks at what's on the inside and so should we. Steve Perry's song called " When you love a Woman " is another that I think you would enjoy. I love all kinds of music from Motown to country to even some of this modern stuff. What they need to do is go out to wherever musicians hang out near them and sit on plastic buckets, busking on street corners for tips. You find some really amazing talent like that, but they'll never be famous 'cause they ain't perty 'nuff, or they're too "controversial." [GASP!]
I agree. I once saw Stevie's eyes roll back so only the whites showed and I swear something else took over and played through him. Astounding to say the least.
The first time I ever heard Stevie Ray play was in 1979 when he was a member of the band Double Trouble. later on, he toured with Eric Clapton and it was after a show in Wisconsin back in 1990 he and several others were killed when the helicopter they took to get to the airport crashed into a ski slope. The news was so devastating to all of us who were big fans. I can remember the news report just hours after the crash had also report Eric Clapton had died. That part they got wrong. Clapton, of course, was not on board but several members of his entourage were and they were also killed. What a sad day in Rock music history...but at least we have these taped live performances we can watch that takes us back to a time when Rock music was just incredible. There will never be another Stevie Ray Vaughan. Also, that Fender Stratavastor he was playing was given to him by his older brother Jimmie. He treasured it all his life. The reason it looked so worn out was that it was made in 1951...it was a classic piece of history. He played that thing until he wore off the shellack down to the wood.

...Your wandering very close to the main nerve of SRV, every now and then, you can almost see him fluttering, and raising his wings as if to float off earth, playing at his paramount peak & he does actually levitate on the song Mary Had A Little Lamb, in its rendition from this very same 1989 SRV Double Trouble Austin City Limits show, if I do say so mself, it is even more impressive, then his jaw dropping Jimi Hendrix tribute featured here, concerning the highest peak level of guitar wizardry obtainable by mere mortal humans. & If the nursery rhyme Mary Had A Little Lamb seems a bit odd of a odd title, there is notable historical precedent, as Mary Had a Little Lamb, is known as being the very first instance of a recorded human voice ever by Thomas Edison, check Stevie Version out from this 2nd Austin City Limits show, and if he's wearing the same garb, as this video, your at the main SRV root nerve...8)
Jimi wrote that song, actually. You may find it on "Electric Ladyland", labelled as "slight return", there are two versions in Jimi's album and both are KILLERS !

I got to meet him once myself and let me tell you that cat was a true Texas gentleman. He had HUGE hands, like baseball mitts. Powerful as all get out.

Just subscribed to your channel after your Righteous Brothers reactions. It’s so good to see, and hear young people discover some of the old greats - love watching the look on your face listening to SRV! I saw him in concert about 6 months before he died, in a beautiful outdoor venue in the hills of Santa Barbara, CA.....he blew us away. One of the best guitar performances I’ve ever seen live. Jaw dropping! I had the great pleasure to see live, Hendrix, Clapton (with Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, Delaney, Bonnie and Friends), BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Stones and just about every major act from the 60s and 70s. SRV and Hendrix were the two best guitar performances, ever, for me. The saddest thing for me upon hearing of his death, was that last performance in that open air bowl concert. We were able to walk down to the front of the stage, and Stevie began to talk about his life, and how the good Lord saved him from addiction, and because of Him, he turned his life around. Just had to share that story. I cried the day he died. Broke my heart, as a mother.

I know there’s always debate over who did what first and influences and the like, but IT IS A FACT that all the great living bluesmen greatly admired Stevie Ray. There need be no other testament as to his greatness. He is legend.
On the VH1 special on SRV's life, they stated "when he was in high school, he would play at a Dallas club at night. It was a 10 PM to 6 AM gig with 10 minute break per hour. SRV would play so hard and so long his calluses would rip open and he'd have to crazy glue um so he could keep on playing. Than he'd get done at 6 AM and get ready to go to school. He was 17 year's old".
I had the honor of seeing SRV 3 times, one of those times was with Santana, SRV, His Brothers band, the fabulous thunderbirds, opened up for Santana, They finished the show with SRV, Jimmie Vaughn, Caesar Rosas from Los Lobos and Carlos, doing Everybody's Everything! Amazing! MRM, Stevie's main influences were all great blues men, BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, and a few others. I'm glad you enjoyed hearing music that I and many treasure!
rumors has it, that if Jimi Hendrix & SRV ever happened to jam together, a giant black hole would have emerged from this, which eventually sucked up the planet entirely. believe it or not!
He and Jimi both were. They didn't strap on a guitar, they melded with an instrument to convey their soul and its intentions, through it. Some can learn to play the notes, but very few can use it as a medium to express their thoughts, feelings or message. This is a skill set that only the two of them had, in my opinion. Touched by the hand of God himself, for us to enjoy and take in with amazement and awe of the ability to exhibit every sinew of sorrow, angst, joy and despair, these messengers wish to display for us, through their music. A gift is what has been presented to us, by them.
I would like to see a reaction of kids from this current generation watch this. Their minds would be BLOWN!!!! C'mon guys, I think we can all agree that this is music at its finest.

Lots of black people love Stevie. It was the music of the Three Kings, Buddy Guy, and many Blues Legends that he built upon, after all, and he never forgot to give credit to the players who had come before him. He was a sweet-natured and beautiful person. People in Austin often come to his statue down by the river, and their heads shake and bow low. Tears come, sometimes. It is difficult to say out loud how many people feel about him -- yet another deeply connected talent taken from us too soon. I once saw a big corn-fed white boy (I'm white, too), red faced, with short, white--blonde hair, standing in front of his statue; the kind of guy that you see a lot of in Texas. "Good Ol' Stevie," he said. And I could see the words choking up in his throat. He shook his head and dragged his sleeve across his eyes, with no shame at all. Then he dropped his chin to his chest, like a prayer, or a moment of silence for Stevie. I remember I cried, too, when I saw him, though I hid in the shadows. But I never forgot it. We all miss him. So thank you for your kind words, my friend. They are much appreciated.
Wow!That must have been great to see Stevie perform in San Marcos. I was just a teenager and graduated from San Marcos High. 1981-1982 my last year and never got to see him play live but when he became known he was all over the place in the news shows and MTV! Great soul he was! Was shocked when he died in that tragic helicopter crash! Gone way too soon. Where did Stevie play when you saw him in San Marcos? Was it Cheatham Street Warehouse maybe?

Could not read a lick of sheet music. Entirely self taught. There's a video on TH-cam of him doing a sound check, came in cold, picked up his guitar and for nearly 20 minutes proceeded to absolutely shred. Just so the sound engineers got it right. Pure bliss listening.
There isn't a video for it but give a listen to his song Life by the Drop. It was never released before his passing, it was released a few months later. It was his tribute to his own substance abuse and his beating of it. Simply my favorite of all his songs. I had tickets to his next show when the helicopter crashed. Never got to see him live. Nearly 30 years later that still hurts.
I was able to see him twice....it was the middle of summer both times and hot as hell....outdoor venue....Stevie was pouring sweat and absolutely wailing...he had to change shirts four times.....played for three hours. It was epic.
I was lucky, and old enough, to have seen him 9 times...the last show, he gave a small talk about his life which was emotional and odd, cuz he was shy and never really spoke at his shows, and then ended it with his song Life by the Drop.....brought the enitre arena to tears.....3 weeks later he was dead.....I sobbed like a baby....he was such a gift and to this day, sorely missed....Im so glad younger generations are listening to him....and yes, he could not read music.....he once said some of the greatest musicians can not read music and named off a lot of them, and did not mention himself....when asked, he stated he did not consider himself in their league....Can you imagine? He was so very humble......
Fantastic reaction!! Living in Austin I had the opportunity to see SRV several times back in the day. I also had the opportunity to meet Stevie backstage at Prince's Purple Rain Tour. I only mention that because Stevie was so gracious and appreciative of any compliments given to him. This live show of Voodoo Child was recorded at Austin City Limits, the longest running music show in the history of American television and still producing season after season music with the world's greatest musicians. Again, thank you for covering SRV!!!

I first heard SRV on an FM station just months before he died. Recognized the greatness immediately. Picked up CDs going forward. Listened for years, but never actually saw him play. One night caught a repeat of one of those Austin City Limits performances on PBS by chance. Jaw f-ing dropping. All those years I figured some of those recordings were using overdubs for all that guitar sound. Little did I know. The guy was just channeling from someplace the rest of us know not where.
there's a guy on youtube here named wings of pegasus and he's a british guitarist who does reviews of famous players guitar work. he found a video of SRV doing a sound check before a concert and it is amazing, like his sound check was greater then most other guitartist entire concert performances.
I first heard Stevie when his first cd came out, Texas Flood. I was blown away by the opening of Pride and Joy. I later got to see him live a few times. The best ever!
His Austin City Limits performances were legendary!! I still remember hearing about his death the day it happened and it was such a shock!! Still remember how I felt....he made me proud to be a Texan and represented us well...
Started going out to see Stevie in Austin 🇨🇱 in the mid 70s. 😁 He is the guitar 🎸GOAT! Last time I saw Stevie Ray was in '85 on the Texas Flood tour. I know I am late reacting to this video but I just saw this tonight. I wanted to explain something about the people who watched SRV live. I was lucky enough to see him live in an arena setting and we all had the same reaction. Please let me try to explain what it was like. No one clapped or cheered while he played. You were aware that you were hearing something rare and did not want to miss a single note. While he was on stage, no one in the audience made a sound. But baby, when the last note of a song fell from his fingers, the roar that went up from the crowd could be felt in your bones. That is just the way it was. I am 65 years old now, he would have been 66 if he had lived, but I can still recall every thing he had on and every song he played. It was life changing.

Saw him live in NYC way way back in the day. We were all half in the bag drinking whatever, laughing, hooting
and hollering and Stevie hit the stage. The minute this dude started playing our jaws dropped. None of us were
too familiar with him but it was utter silence until he finished the first song then the place ERUPTED!!! MIND BLOWN.
We talked about him for weeks and bought his vinyl.
I am VERY proud to say that I got off my butt and drove to Jacksonville, Florida to see Stevie Ray live in a small auditorium, front row seat no less!!! I'll never forget him, he was stone gone, in another place playing that guitar, un F'ing believable. Three years or so later he made his transition. RIP Ty, I just LOVE your reaction to hearing him!!:):)
MRM, I'm 61 years old, and you won't believe how cool it is to watch generations of folks like you watch SRV, and get it, really get it! When music sticks around past it's generation is profound. Watching you understand is profound. Bravo!

Me too. I used to work "the pit" at concerts when I was in college. So SRV was like 3 feet from me for easily an hour. After the set, my co-worker was exactly like "MRM" (amazed). I had known what I was getting into. Definitely one of the top 4-5 concerts I've ever witnessed (and I've worked at or attended personally a couple hundred). This was on NOV 5, 1983 and he OPENED for the Moody Blues.
MRM loved watching you watching SRV. I'm 56 and I was Blessed enough to see him Twice! That's Right 2 Times. The First time was Blues Festival in Dallas BB King was the Headliner Stevie went on before BB and Mr. King couldn't hang with Stevie's show 2nd song into Mr. King's set he says "Let me Introduce you to my Son" Stevie comes and finishes off the show with BB and his Band. Next year Stevie was Headlining the Festival. I'm a Guitar player when I heard the news about the crash about 9am i left work and went to a Bar and my wife found me about 11pm I was completely Numb for at least 2-3 weeks. He was also recently Sober - kicked his Habits! Loved your reactions Dude!
The thing that amazes me most (and i am a guitarist) is that SRV never ever stops playing.............ever! We all think about where we are going next but he just played, and then some!
I absolutely love seeing these young people react to stevie!! It takes me back when i first heard him and thought "there is no way i am hearing what is coming out of this man and guitar"!! Stevie just had that impact on everyone. I also noticed any SRV reaction videos get a ton of views and comments from everone. That shows how much EVERYONE loved stevie. If you dont love stevie, you have no soul!! Nobody can touch this man imo.
This has been my summer of rediscovering the genius of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I loved him back in the 80's and I am in amazement even now.

I actually got to see him in concert back in the mid 80's...OMG SRV WAS OFF THE CHAIN!!!! I'm so very glad you listened to this. SRV did Jimi Hendrix proud on this one!!

Having seen him play when I was a younger man it is understandable that you would say why is the crowd just sitting there. The thing is it was just that you just didn't want to take your eyes off what he was doing and you wanted to not make a sound to disturb the moments that a guitar god was laying down. Applause, screaming, tears of joy could wait until he was finished.
Now THIS is the way a reaction video should be done! None of that stopping the content every few seconds to make clueless exclamations but instead, letting it play through and showing us good, genuine reaction on-the-fly! That's what makes it fun! That's what allows we viewers to have the joy of watching your reaction to the content as it unfolds and makes us feel a little like we're watching it with you for the first time. Thanks! :-)

great video bro, i was lucky enough to see SRV live in so cal in 1990 B&H Blues Fest a show of blues legends who all were incredible, but I was there for Stevie and he just killed us all that night I Count my self blessed to have been there to see him play,..less than 8 weeks later he was gone. You are absolutely right,.. its one of the few best things about being " old enough" lol to have 'been there to see it live" It brings tears to my eyes thinking how many years of incredible music was lost when SRV was lost so young.....

Nothing on earth was as memorizing as watching SRV play live. Nothing. His stage crew was the most amazing thing I ever saw. Stevie shredded strings, his roadies switched out guitars and he’d never miss a beat. I was literally slack jawed through the entire show, 1988

Right as he was cleaning up his act, getting straight, appreciating life itself so much ... I still remember EXACTLY where I was when I heard he had died in that helicopter crash ... I was driving northbound on 205 near the Otty Road exit, almost home to Outer SE Portland. First, shock, then profound sadness for Stevie and his family and friends. 💔😢

"Jeff Beck"! At "Cobo Hall" in Detriot! The show was completely SOLD OUT! & We couldn't attain any tickets, anywhere! But get this, me & my crew were on I-94E. heading back to our shop, around 6pm, after working all day, just a few miles North of downtown Detroit. & We had the local Rock station (WRIF) playing in the truck! After a commercial break, the DJ announced live on air. That, they just released 300 tickets to the show at a first come, first served basis!!! $5-Tier C Tickets! Boy.... I whipped that truck around at the next exit & was at Cobo Hall in 10min. What a show, words cannot describe? He was the BEST-
BAR NONE! Sadly though, he had perished in "Alpine Valley" WI. Several months later. 😔 🙏🏻

I think he played by Ear. He changed a lot on the sounds effects on the guitar Jimmy gave him.

A few years ago I was on one of these pages, and some douche bag said Stevie had meat hooks for hands. Stevie’s hands were like vice grips. They say that when he shook your hand, you felt like he could crush it if he wanted to. I think sadly though he’s more famous now, than when he was alive. He’s truly a legend!!!!

SUBBBB....tears watching you jam to Stevie. He is a Texas legend. A humble genius. I listened to him all through college and saw him whenever I could. All the local cover bands paid tribute. The day he died...time stood still. Folks were stunned and unable to talk. We were numb. It was hard to breathe. The musicians I knew were in mourning for weeks.
Stevie was from the "bad" south side of Dallas...he grew up with real Texas blues. He did not steal the blues from the soul men of Deep Ellum...he borrowed it, nurtured it, gave his soul to it and never sold out. RIP Stevie...gone way too soon. So thrilled to see ya'll feeling his music for the first time.

I am an ol' dude, 72. Stevie is the shciezen! Master of the instrument, master of the mood. Make the mood, with the instrument, his voice, his talent. Mr music, mister blues. Period. I majored in music in Austin at UT. (Trumpet player) Stevie had it in spades and then two more decks of cards.

Love, love, LOVE watching new people discover SRV! Your reaction reminded me so much of mine when I first heard Stevie's take on Voodoo Chile (Jimi Hendrix originally wrote it as "Voodoo Chile" not "Voodoo Child"). The first thing I did was rewind that sucker and hit play over and over with my mouth hanging wide open. Eric Clapton described Stevie Ray best when he said, "I just had to meet this guy. He was like an open channel to some higher power." Yep.
There were two songs that people usually get confused. They were both on Hendrix's last studio album, Electric Ladyland. The first was called 'Voodoo Chile' and it was (IMHO) rather unremarkable, which is why I suspect most people don't know it. The second one, on the B-side, is called Voodoo Child (Slight Return). (Note the "Child" in this song as opposed to "Chile" in the first one.) This is the song with which people are most familiar, thanks in large part to SRV.
I remember Clapton saying in a documentary that most of the guitar guys of his day would go into a solo, including himself, get lost in it and had to figure out how to get back to the song. He went on saying that that never happens with Stevie Ray Vaughan. He knows exactly where he is at all times and all he does is just channel.

Jimi Hendrix recorded this song in October of 1968, if you can believe that it's almost 50 years old now.
Joe Satriani said of the song: "It's just the greatest piece of electric guitar work ever recorded. In fact, the whole song could be considered the holy grail of guitar expression and technique. It is a beacon of humanity."
I don't know about that last part, but you have to admit - whether it's Jimi's version or SRV's - it stands as one of the best modern songs ever recorded, and it never fails to blow me away when I listen to it.

Just a little trivia fact about Jimi Hendrix he was a left handed guitar player. only back when he was playing there was no such thing as a left handed guitar.

I'm 60 years old and very very Thankful to have been borned during this Era of music, Unbelievable. Alot of today's , not all music, is what I call throw away music, just like the vehicles that are being made. This music Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Led Zeppelin and so on, will never die.

That's Austin City Limits. It's set up for broadcast. There is rarely dancing going on because it messes up the recording and it was a pretty cramped space. It kinda is a church for music.
When told that " white boys" shouldn't be playing the blues, the great Buddy Guy said " why? Don't white boys get the blues?" Good enough for me!

BB King called SRV his 'white son'. He said that while he played words and sentences with his guitar, Stevie played whole paragraphs at a time. Eric Clapton said he could only listen to one or two of SRV's song at a time or else he'd just give u on the guitar.

Few can say they stood in his presence, breathing the same air, watching him sweat, and wondering what what powerful force created him. I was in radio when he came into his own in the late 80s, and was asked to interview him. I can only speak of him in terms of abject honour, of being in the presence of amazing grace which words cannot describe!

Yes, one of the best guitar players ever. Remember the first time I saw him in concert and he was still on drugs really bad and it was a great show, saw him a couple of more times, then he kicked his drug habits and the next time I saw him it was a total different show, he was really kicking A Double S and playing some much better, in my opinion he was getting better as the time went on, I was waiting for him to come back to Memphis so I could see him again. I remember driving to work on the morning when I heard the news of the chopper crash and that Stevie Ray was no longer with us. I often wonder how much better he would be today if he was still alive. He was already one of the best, but after he kick the drugs, he got better and was continuing to get better on commanding and controlling that guitar and was one of the greatest guitarists of our time. This is what needs to happen more to the millennial generation - exposure to quality music not the slick packaged, marketed, force fed crap they try pass off as music today. I think if this happened, more people would be playing music and demanding that music education be put back in the public schools.

Hey man, if you get a chance then check out " I'll play the blues for you " by Joe Bonnammassa on you tube. I think you'll like it. If you like good heartfelt music then try some of Keith Whitley's songs too. Good to see the younger generation listening to older songs. Music is a universal language that everyone can enjoy regardless of race , creed or the color of our skin. God looks at what's on the inside and so should we. Steve Perry's song called " When you love a Woman " is another that I think you would enjoy. I love all kinds of music from Motown to country to even some of this modern stuff. What they need to do is go out to wherever musicians hang out near them and sit on plastic buckets, busking on street corners for tips. You find some really amazing talent like that, but they'll never be famous 'cause they ain't perty 'nuff, or they're too "controversial." [GASP!]

I agree. I once saw Stevie's eyes roll back so only the whites showed and I swear something else took over and played through him. Astounding to say the least.
The first time I ever heard Stevie Ray play was in 1979 when he was a member of the band Double Trouble. later on, he toured with Eric Clapton and it was after a show in Wisconsin back in 1990 he and several others were killed when the helicopter they took to get to the airport crashed into a ski slope. The news was so devastating to all of us who were big fans. I can remember the news report just hours after the crash had also report Eric Clapton had died. That part they got wrong. Clapton, of course, was not on board but several members of his entourage were and they were also killed. What a sad day in Rock music history...but at least we have these taped live performances we can watch that takes us back to a time when Rock music was just incredible. There will never be another Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Also, that Fender Stratavastor he was playing was given to him by his older brother Jimmie. He treasured it all his life. The reason it looked so worn out was that it was made in 1951...it was a classic piece of history. He played that thing until he wore off the shellack down to the wood.

Just subscribed to your channel after your Righteous Brothers reactions. It’s so good to see, and hear young people discover some of the old greats - love watching the look on your face listening to SRV! I saw him in concert about 6 months before he died, in a beautiful outdoor venue in the hills of Santa Barbara, CA.....he blew us away. One of the best guitar performances I’ve ever seen live. Jaw dropping! I had the great pleasure to see live, Hendrix, Clapton (with Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, Delaney, Bonnie and Friends), BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Stones and just about every major act from the 60s and 70s. SRV and Hendrix were the two best guitar performances, ever, for me.
The saddest thing for me upon hearing of his death, was that last performance in that open air bowl concert. We were able to walk down to the front of the stage, and Stevie began to talk about his life, and how the good Lord saved him from addiction, and because of Him, he turned his life around. Just had to share that story. I cried the day he died. Broke my heart, as a mother.
I never get tired of watching (and of course listening to) that piece of footage.

I know there’s always debate over who did what first and influences and the like, but IT IS A FACT that all the great living bluesmen greatly admired Stevie Ray. There need be no other testament as to his greatness. He is legend.
SRV played the heaviest gauge strings made and bent them like he was playing cotton candy that is how he got his unique sound.
He switched to 8's or 9's toward the end of his life according to his guitsr tech. Im not sure if its true but I remember reading it somewhere
On the VH1 special on SRV's life, they stated "when he was in high school, he would play at a Dallas club at night. It was a 10 PM to 6 AM gig with 10 minute break per hour. SRV would play so hard and so long his calluses would rip open and he'd have to crazy glue um so he could keep on playing. Than he'd get done at 6 AM and get ready to go to school. He was 17 year's old".
I had the honor of seeing SRV 3 times, one of those times was with Santana, SRV, His Brothers band, the fabulous thunderbirds, opened up for Santana, They finished the show with SRV, Jimmie Vaughn, Caesar Rosas from Los Lobos and Carlos, doing Everybody's Everything! Amazing! MRM, Stevie's main influences were all great blues men, BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, and a few others. I'm glad you enjoyed hearing music that I and many treasure!

He and Jimi both were. They didn't strap on a guitar, they melded with an instrument to convey their soul and its intentions, through it. Some can learn to play the notes, but very few can use it as a medium to express their thoughts, feelings or message. This is a skill set that only the two of them had, in my opinion. Touched by the hand of God himself, for us to enjoy and take in with amazement and awe of the ability to exhibit every sinew of sorrow, angst, joy and despair, these messengers wish to display for us, through their music. A gift is what has been presented to us, by them.

Love your format man. Not a bunch of filler and pausing the song constantly and what feels like genuine reactions and responses to new stuff for the first time not stuff you previewed and planned your reaction to.
Lots of black people love Stevie. It was the music of the Three Kings, Buddy Guy, and many Blues Legends that he built upon, after all, and he never forgot to give credit to the players who had come before him. He was a sweet-natured and beautiful person. People in Austin often come to his statue down by the river, and their heads shake and bow low. Tears come, sometimes. It is difficult to say out loud how many people feel about him -- yet another deeply connected talent taken from us too soon.
I once saw a big corn-fed white boy (I'm white, too), red faced, with short, white--blonde hair, standing in front of his statue; the kind of guy that you see a lot of in Texas.
"Good Ol' Stevie," he said. And I could see the words choking up in his throat. He shook his head and dragged his sleeve across his eyes, with no shame at all. Then he dropped his chin to his chest, like a prayer, or a moment of silence for Stevie. I remember I cried, too, when I saw him, though I hid in the shadows. But I never forgot it.
We all miss him.

I was just a teenager and graduated from San Marcos High. 1981-1982 my last year and never got to see him play live but when he became known he was all over the place in the news shows and MTV! Great soul he was! Was shocked when he died in that tragic helicopter crash! Gone way too soon. Where did Stevie play when you saw him in San Marcos? Was it Cheatham Street Warehouse maybe?

Could not read a lick of sheet music. Entirely self taught. There's a video on TH-cam of him doing a sound check, came in cold, picked up his guitar and for nearly 20 minutes proceeded to absolutely shred. Just so the sound engineers got it right. Pure bliss listening.
Thats crazy to know considering I can't read music either, but can play the bass, organ, piano, drums, and keyboard.
There isn't a video for it but give a listen to his song Life by the Drop. It was never released before his passing, it was released a few months later. It was his tribute to his own substance abuse and his beating of it. Simply my favorite of all his songs. I had tickets to his next show when the helicopter crashed. Never got to see him live. Nearly 30 years later that still hurts.
I was able to see him twice....it was the middle of summer both times and hot as hell....outdoor venue....Stevie was pouring sweat and absolutely wailing...he had to change shirts four times.....played for three hours. It was epic.
I was lucky, and old enough, to have seen him 9 times...the last show, he gave a small talk about his life which was emotional and odd, cuz he was shy and never really spoke at his shows, and then ended it with his song Life by the Drop.....brought the enitre arena to tears.....3 weeks later he was dead.....I sobbed like a baby....he was such a gift and to this day, sorely missed....Im so glad younger generations are listening to him....and yes, he could not read music.....he once said some of the greatest musicians can not read music and named off a lot of them, and did not mention himself....when asked, he stated he did not consider himself in their league....Can you imagine? He was so very humble......

Fantastic reaction!! Living in Austin I had the opportunity to see SRV several times back in the day. I also had the opportunity to meet Stevie backstage at Prince's Purple Rain Tour. I only mention that because Stevie was so gracious and appreciative of any compliments given to him. This live show of Voodoo Child was recorded at Austin City Limits, the longest running music show in the history of American television and still producing season after season music with the world's greatest musicians. Again, thank you for covering SRV!!!

I first heard SRV on an FM station just months before he died. Recognized the greatness immediately. Picked up CDs going forward. Listened for years, but never actually saw him play. One night caught a repeat of one of those Austin City Limits performances on PBS by chance. Jaw f-ing dropping. All those years I figured some of those recordings were using overdubs for all that guitar sound. Little did I know. The guy was just channeling from someplace the rest of us know not where.
there's a guy on youtube here named wings of pegasus and he's a british guitarist who does reviews of famous players guitar work. he found a video of SRV doing a sound check before a concert and it is amazing, like his sound check was greater then most other guitartist entire concert performances.
I first heard Stevie when his first cd came out, Texas Flood. I was blown away by the opening of Pride and Joy. I later got to see him live a few times. The best ever!

His Austin City Limits performances were legendary!! I still remember hearing about his death the day it happened and it was such a shock!! Still remember how I felt....he made me proud to be a Texan and represented us well...

It's a live version from a Jerry's Kids telethon that Stevie and Double Trouble showed up to as a surprise guest! 🤫 RIP Stevie...thank you for the laughter😂 and the tears 😢.
